Title Comps + An important Question
I commissioned @feathernotes to draft some title compositions for MWG! While I do love the current title, it unfortunately doesn't play off the romance angle very well, so I've been looking to make a new one.
These comps were voted on in the Discord and 1 won pretty overwhelmingly with 4 being behind by only 10 votes! I'd love to hear y'all's thoughts on these comps too, though, in case you're not in the Discord.
As it stands, I've been enamored with all of them, but between 1 and 4, I find myself even more split. 4 has a classy fairytale-esque vibe because of the border, but MAN is 1 eye catching!
TL;DR: Which title do y'all like best?
🚨🚨IN TERMS OF THE QUESTION MENTIONED IN THE TITLE🚨🚨:
I received some really good edits back from a freelance editor I hired to look over the comic and then some and some of the edits would require me going back and retroactively adding/changing the old pages (mostly in Ch1).
A lot of the edits are small things that would involve breaking up pages and adding in a few more panels/scenes, and it's very intriguing to me (especially because a lot of the suggestions pertain to Ch 1, a chapter that's 19 pages relative to Ch2's 39 pages).
While I'd like to make a list of actual changes I'd make first, perhaps in the future I might wind up polling y'all and seeing how y'all'd feel if I took a month off (potentially either pausing Patreon entirely for that month, so no comic updates period, or just sticking with the NSFW updates and then giving y'all just constant updates on the adjustments made to the current comic itself, especially since some scenes will be elaborated on/reworded).
A lot of the suggestions are breaking pages into splash pages (so a single image for the full update), something that I purposefully get skittish doing because I know the comic only updates once a week and I want the updates to feel memorable/worth the wait.
This is definitely stuff that would be annoying as a reader in the short term, it'd be really helpful to the comic itself in the long term, especially as MWG goes on longer and people start reading it in binges rather than week to week. The pacing would be smoothed out and more emphasis would be placed on things that were initially too subtle for most readers to pick up (for example, Fleur calling Cinna honey is because Cinna drank mead at the inn and when the two first meet, Cinna lies and claims she's looking for the inn when Fleur can smell the honey/mead on her breath).
It's a damn shame I can't attach a poll to a text post on Patreon, but know that this isn't the last y'all've heard of this. I think if I WERE to choose a time, it potentially would be either November or December because I will be dealing with the holidays over that time period anyway, and having a slightly lighter month would really help me out. I also do think the edits would be worth it at some point just for me creatively. I think it'd be fulfilling knowing they're the best they can be.
TL;DR: I'm considering either pausing Patreon billing for a month or just halting MWG updates (NSFW comics would continue) to retroactively edit Chapters 1 and 2 to make them stronger reads.

2 and 4 are incredible
I see what Discord is saying, 1 and 4 are my favorites as well. I personally prefer 4 because I like the title at the top rather than the bottom. In English, you’re trained to read top to bottom so I feel the information in the image flows better with number 4 (although I do prefer the back cover from 1). As for the edits, I don’t really mind if you take a month to make edits. Though in the short term it may cost you, this comic seems like it will be going on for a while. So if in the long term the changes would help you grow your audience and brand the story I say go for it. If you turn off auto billing is it still possible for us to make a one time payment for that month? I personally would still like to pay my dues even if you do take a month break
Have it at the top also makes it look a little more traditional storybook, I think! I'm definitely being swayed to 4 the more I look at the comments (though I'll probably still finish 1 anyway just cause I love it as well). Thanks so much for your input on the editing! It may cost me patrons in the short term and some frustrations, but I really do think it'll be worth it especially for me creatively speaking (as cheesy as that sounds). I'd feel awful if y'all still were charged and flat nothing was delivered! Don't even worry about it- more than most likely I'll do the option of continuing the NSFW side comics and then giving y'all updates to the edits of the chapters + wips + nsfw doodles to supplement the lack of updates.
1 AND 4 LOOK AMAZING
Definitely 4. That possessive pose, yet with the angle of the 🔫 shows the conflict a bit. Idk the romance lover in me is drawn to 4. I also like the framing of the window panes on the back of 4 too. It expresses a bit of the time of the story, while the preying shadow of the wolf is dramatic and eye catching.
4 definitely has a certain class to it because of the framing I think, too! If I were to make the cover a print, I feel like gold or silver foil would go so hard on it, so that's an even bigger tempter to this whole debate lol
i would say 1 or 4 for the front cover, but i feel equally drawn to the back covers, they all highlight something different but equally important in the story so far. however, i think all of them would make AMAZING prints or chapter headers
Honestly I feel all of the covers and backs are so damn strong! Feathernotes did such a stellar job with this project and I’m so grateful for their help! I do think I will wind up drawing both 1 and 4 (and who knows, maybe more) just cause they’re both really good. I’m leaning towards 4 a bit more than 1 though, personally lol

Hard to say between 1 and 4, they both look great. At the end of the day, it's your series and if you want to revise and redo portions to create it closer to your vision then you should do what you want above all

I'm definitely fine with you taking some time to revamp previous pages - I'm here to support you more than to get bonus content, so for me I'd also be happy without pausing the Patreon. Also, I totally get the concern about doing splash pages because they feel like short updates, but agree you should do what's best for the comic overall!
Honestly that’s so kind of you, thank you so much! And yeah Splashes are really fun and powerful but it does run into the issue of “was this enough for the audience to wait a week on?” 😅

1 is super striking and really sells the romance aspect of the comic! I almost wonder if 4 with 1's back would be a good option, but those are both mid-range angles. I definitely want Juniper SOMEWHERE on the cover.
I adore 4 as it shoes both Cinna and Fleur as worthy, and capable individuals and their dance together- both romantically and in that hunter and monster way. I also enjoy 1, but it feels like perhaps it downplays Cinna's capabilities a little as a hunter personally!
I think that's a super fair analysis! Cinna looks a little more flustered in 1, but in 4 they both look dangerous!
4 has a certain intimacy that almost feels like it represents their relationship amazingly!
It does, doesn’t it? 1 is eye catching but 4 does have deeper tones to it and also lowkey… the concept of gold foil for the frame would be gorgeous

i'm with the discord on this, 1 is a great cover, 4 is also good (but i prefer 1). none of the other layouts quite have the sauce. re: the important question, perhaps you could make a separate post for it with a poll? but i think spending a month on the edits is a good idea, better for the long term success of MWG. i suspect most of your Patrons would understand.
1 has SO much sauce, but god 4 has the juice too! Tbh I might just draw both of them (if not all of these cause they're so gorgeous). It's such a hard decision lol I think I'll be making a separate post for the poll once I make a list of changes I want to make so that everyone has a clear idea of the work I'll be doing over the month (likely alongside the NSFW comics) and it doesn't feel like y'all seeing a whole bunch of nothing. I actually really like 4! It does play the romance vibes much better than 1
It has a much more regal aspect I think because of the framing! 1 really plays off the darker romance aspect, I think!
Loving #4, the cover is really captivating with Cinna’s self-proving hunting duties and Fleur’s monstrous predator nature. The complex dangerous relationship and level of possession speaks loudest in this cover. The framing is a perfect use to depict mystery, especially with the subtle tones of the blight. If this isn’t selected, may it be potentially be used for the next cover?
It's such a strong cover (tbh all of them are just so good), I definitely would be tempted to draw it regardless! It'd certainly make a lovely print for my home office if nothing else LOL!

I do like that option too! I wanted Juniper to be visible in some way, and it's seeming like the back cover might be the best option at this point
Honestly a fan of 1, 4, & 6
6 has been a dark horse in this race! I'm actually really fond of 2 and 5 as well but they unfortunately read better I think as posters without the logo rather than titles haha

Gods 1 is so cool looking
