I had to do a little research for slings because the weapon was initially suggested to me by my sister and I wasn't too sure if it'd be powerful enough to be a viable weapon for Nolan... Turns out it's definitely feasible!
I wanted to rant but tbh I'm about to head off on a hike, so I'll perhaps drop my thoughts and fun facts in the comments once I'm back if I don't get to edit this scheduled post in time for it to go live!
So I was watching this video as a reference for a sling throw, the sound alone was impressive and you know? It makes more sense to me as a formidable weapon. On top of that, I had been looking at the type of ammo that was used for slings especially in warfare, and it turns out they would cast sling bullets and specifically engrave messages on them. I think I'd be lowkey livid if my face got hole-punched by a rock that said "learn" on it, just saying. Part of why the weapon fell out of use is because it just takes ages to master, so after taking all this in, I thought Nolan being an older guy who likes to present himself as jovial and laid back having a much more subtle weapon was a good choice... ESPECIALLY if his sling bullets were infused with magic. Definitely valuable ammo he'd need to recover, but also something he only really pulls out when needed.
Also y'all don't worry, all this will be explained in the comic as well, I am just sort of jumping the gun (excuse the pun) because I was hyped for this little sequence, hehe.

(Copy pasted from Discord): Nolan using a sling was not a choice I had initially planned. He was supposed to have throwing knives but I fucking forgot to draw the sheaths on his belt or a pack on him and I was like "Well fuck. What is a subtle weapon he could have?" and my sister suggested a sling which lead to me doing some research to see how viable that would be. I think the experience needed to master the weapon and the subtly of it was just a perfect match for him, and thus why I went with it!
