A new era for Goodbye Eternity
Hi everyone!
It’s time to take a look at everything we’ve accomplished over the past two weeks… and trust me, there’s a lot.
First of all, I’ve finally managed to recruit a second artist for Goodbye Eternity!
She’ll mainly be helping us with CG production. This should reduce the amount of time needed between updates, but more importantly, it’ll allow us to be much more ambitious with the number of CGs we can include in each release.
And since she works fast… let’s just say this opens up quite a few possibilities.
For a long time, I tried to find someone capable of reproducing the exact style of my main artist. Eventually, I had to accept the obvious: right now, that simply isn’t realistic.
Her style will therefore be slightly different from what you’re used to, but I felt it was close enough and, more importantly, good enough to blend naturally into Goodbye Eternity’s overall art direction.
And you know me: visual consistency is not exactly something I’m willing to compromise on.
The rewrite
There’s news on that front too.
I may have gotten a little… carried away. Yasuka’s routes have now been rewritten.
The story you already knew is still there in broad strokes, but in my opinion, the writing quality has taken several huge steps forward.
I’ve really tried to push the characters much further: their motivations, their contradictions, their relationships with one another… I want them to feel like they genuinely exist outside of the scenes where the player happens to meet them.
And I sincerely think the difference compared to the old version is massive. We’ve added new locations, brand-new scenes, and heavily reworked many existing situations.
Asami is also no longer pushed aside during Yasuka’s route. She’ll continue to be part of your story whether you decide to pursue a romantic relationship with her… or simply remain friends.
Which brings me to another fairly major change.
Friendship or romance
From now on, you won’t be forced to enter a romantic relationship with a character in order to continue developing your bond with them. You’ll be able to simply remain friends.
This allows me to write much more natural relationships between the characters and, more importantly, gives much more weight to the romantic relationship you actually choose to build.
I know that prioritizing a single love interest during the main story may disappoint some of you, and I completely understand that.
But I’d rather tell you a coherent story with genuine relationships and real consequences than gradually turn Goodbye Eternity into a harem where everyone simply accepts everything for no reason.
That being said… We still thought about those of you who just want to enjoy chaos.
Two game modes
Two new game modes will be introduced in the future. Story Mode will be Goodbye Eternity as I’ve always wanted to tell it: a story with choices, relationships, consequences, and real continuity between the characters.
And once you’ve completed the main story, you’ll unlock Free Mode.
There, the story restrictions are gone. You’ll be able to pursue multiple relationships at the same time, experiment with different possibilities, and enjoy the characters without having to worry about narrative consequences.
Basically: a proper sandbox mode.
This idea actually came directly from a discussion on the game’s community Discord. I asked for your opinion on the direction the game should take, we brainstormed together, and this solution came out of those conversations.
So seriously, don’t hesitate to join the discussions: your feedback can genuinely influence some of the decisions surrounding the game.
And that’s not all…
A new game is also currently being developed inside Goodbye Eternity itself.
And honestly, calling it a “mini-game” is starting to feel a little insulting. We’re working on a full-fledged card game. I’m not going to reveal everything just yet, but I wanted to start teasing it here today. You’ll hear a lot more about it in the future.
So, what’s next?
I think that’s everything for today. As for me, now that I’m already deep into this rewrite… why stop here?
I obviously haven’t forgotten about the continuation of the story with Chiaki.
But if I want the first major part of Goodbye Eternity to have the ending it deserves, I first need to fix some of the foundations that had become a little too shaky over time.
It’s probably a little selfish of me to delay the continuation slightly longer in order to revisit existing content. But when we finally reach that conclusion, I want to be able to create something truly memorable.
And now that we have two artists working on CGs… Let’s just say I can finally start considering things that simply wouldn’t have been possible before.
Take care of yourselves!

As someone who has been a patron on and off for a few years now and who really enjoys the game i do have some concerns, the recent stretches of story rewrites has been a bit worrying as i know of and am a fan of quite a few other adult games where they will constantly drag their feet on progressing the story as to suck every bit of money they can out of their games. Luckily i don’t really believe that to be the case here as the progression of the rewrites has been pretty consistent so far and I do acknowledge the quality of asami’s love route was good. However i do still have some concerns with the rewrites as while i do believe these aren’t driven from a place of greed but a desire to make the game better it being 10 months since the last big addition to the story (in my opinion) with Natsume is a really long time. And for some people who aren’t the biggest fan of Asami (me i’m sorry lol) the last 10 months have felt pretty sluggish, and with this possibly happening for other characters in the future who other people might not be interested in i feel this could set a bad precedent. Like I said though i did enjoy the rewrites and frankly my opinion of Asami has definitely gone up since her new love route i still very much would prefer the story to continue. But my biggest concern is definitely the 2 game modes. Personally i am not too hot on the idea of story mode as i understand as a writer that definitely would creatively limit character interactions with everyone supposedly having this loving and pure relationship with Saito while he is sleeping with 5+ other girls is definitely a bit jarring, I think putting this limit on the player and forcing them to beat the game to unlock free mode is a bit unnecessary. Especially considering the possibility of story rewrites happening again in the future and assuming this story mode and free mode being implemented before the game is fully completed could mean that a character that you have not chosen for your one and only love route on your current story mode playthrough gets a rewrite and then you spend 10 months watching a character route get rewritten that you can’t even see without restarting the whole game. I think the best solution to this would be to axe the beat the story mode requirement and offer this option at the start of the game, while i personally am not a fan of bad endings or consequences to my actions, i acknowledge other people are so i think giving us the option at the start of the playthrough to either be able to love route who we want without restrictions or face the consequences is the best of both worlds. At the end of the day i do love Goodbye Eternity and hope this doesn’t come off as overly negative or hateful as this is seriously one of the best Games i’ve played in a long time and i have and continue to love the story.
When I first read this, I was nervous about the story changing from the one I loved to something else. After reading the comments and giving it some time to settle, I trust you as a writer seeing the brilliance that you have had so far in the fact that you made a convincing story out of a harem that's fully unbelievable. I'm no longer afraid of what you come up with story-wise, but I am apprehensive about the new artist potentially making the art style inconsistent. One of my favorite things about goodbye eternity aside from the incredible story was the gorgeous and extremely consistent art direction. I will reserve judgement until the next update comes out since it will probably be fine, but I am making it known that I'm concerned now. The last thing I will say is PLEASE don't let yourself scope creep to the point of never finishing the game. That has been the death of most of my favorite projects. The original author creates something incredible, builds an excited community and then development chugs along for a few years with incremental updates until they get a big idea and it takes a million years for the big rewrite to come out and then inevitably the project is abandoned. See Wandfully dev/ a day with Paige for the most recent example of this problem I've seen. I love this game, and I trust your judgment, but if you take nothing else from this, let it be don't give up and don't scope creep yourself into oblivion.
That's a completely fair concern, and honestly it's something I'm very conscious of too. The rewrite isn't meant to become an endless cycle of rebuilding the game. The goal is to fix the foundations now so I can move forward properly afterward, not keep restarting forever. As for the new artist, I'm being extremely careful about consistency. I know how important Goodbye Eternity's visual identity is, so I wouldn't bring someone in if I thought their work would clash badly with the existing art. And thank you for the trust. I definitely intend to finish this game !
I had a bit of mixed feelings when your last mayor update came out. The positive was more scenes/backgrounds and character postures. The art is deffinitely a strong feature in this game! It's some of the best I have seen. But it also seemed like a complete change of mentality when it came to the story itself. All the good drama with Yasuka being drugged and the growing drug syndicate seemed to be put much futher behind in favour of fooling around with the different women. I loved the old story. Particular those around Yasuka and Asami. The old story deffinetily had some issues but overall I wanted to see the progress. I hope you put the story in focus again. Respect and love need to be earned. As for the harem debate, I am for that you need to focus on one (or a few select) and friendship on the rest. To make all the women fall in love with you just make the story a bit hard to take seriously. It all depends on how well you write it, I guess. It leaves more room for replayability.
I'm gonna be real. While I can see what you're trying to go for I honestly don't see the full vision for how you want to go about it. The Sandbox mode seems kinda fine, but takes away from the main story a bit. I understand you don't think a harem would work with how you want the story would work, but I think the system you had set in place before was perfectly fine where you can still pursue multiple love interests with the exception of a few like you can't have both Asami and Sayuri, perfectly fine. Again the Freemode/Sandbox option would still be cool to just bypass that and romance anyone you want. But then I'd have to complete the main story first to unlock it to then play and experience the story the way I'd want to, which takes away a bit of freedom not only a from a Narative point of view, but also a Player's point of view. I'll still stick around till the games completion to see how the story goes but in all honesty I'll probably not enjoy it as much. I don't know, you do you, it's your story do what you want but I still think what we had already was fine.
I completely understand where you're coming from, and honestly the old system worked fine when the relationships were much more isolated from one another. The problem I'm running into with the rewrite is that the characters are becoming much more involved in each other's lives. Asami doesn't simply vanish because you're doing Yasuka's route anymore, for example. She remains part of the story, reacts to what happens, talks to other characters, etc. Once you start writing the cast that way, allowing several simultaneous Love routes creates increasingly bizarre situations unless I either make everyone conveniently ignore them or write an enormous number of permutations. Neither option really appeals to me. That's why Friendship exists now: choosing one romance doesn't mean abandoning the other characters or their stories. It just changes the nature of those relationships. And Free Mode is there specifically because I know some players enjoy Goodbye Eternity very differently from how I approach the main story as a writer. I don't want to take that freedom away from them either.
It adds a route at the start of the game where, instead of choosing Asami, we can choose Sakuya—and in this version, she isn't quite as much of a yandere.
OH GOD. These previews...
I don't like being this guy and honestly ive been supporting this development for roughly a year or two now. A little disappointed though. Sex isnt love? Modern society thinks harem means "oh great I can have sex with multiple partners" thats not what it means. It means you can form bonds through love and make a family bigger then you ever had. I thought I never have to say this but if I play this game after the update and dont have a harem loe route for them all im just gonna stop my subscription and get rid of the game all together. There's other projects that know love isnt about sex and sex isnt love and personally I would rather spend my money on projects with potential. From what I read this is gonna be a dating simulator with extra steps. I really hope thats not the case and if it is cool it is what it is I did enjoy the game before that and its a shame I wont get to see it finished but your the creator im the supporter. I hope that doesnt happen but will see.
I think you're imagining something much more restrictive than what I actually have planned Story Mode isn't turning Goodbye Eternity into a dating simulator where you pick one girl and everyone else disappears from your life. Quite the opposite: one of the reasons I added Friendship routes is specifically so the other girls can continue developing, interacting with Saito, and remaining part of the story even when you're not romantically involved with them. What I'm trying to avoid is having Saito be in several committed romantic relationships at the same time while every character magically accepts it and the story pretends there are no consequences. That just isn't the story I want to write. And for people who absolutely want the harem/chaos side of things, that's precisely what Free Mode is for. I'm not removing that possibility, I'm separating it from the narrative rules of Story Mode. So don't bury the game just yet
Instead of splitting the game into two separate modes (Story vs. Sandbox) and doubling your development and flag-management workload, why not unify this concept directly into the main narrative mechanics? You can easily handle both playstyles using the existing Love, Corruption, and Friendship paths: Pure Love Path: Choosing a Love route with a girl solidifies a committed romance, leaving other girls available through Friendship or Corruption. However, committing to a Love route locks out other romantic paths. The Betrayal Consequence: If a player already has an active Love route and tries to pursue a Corruption route with someone else on the side, it dynamically shifts the original relationship into a Betrayal Route—eventually leading to a narrative Game Over. This preserves the heavy emotional weight and consequences you want without restricting player freedom arbitrarily. The Harem Alternative: Players who strictly want a harem can freely pursue multiple Corruption routes from the start, as that path natively carries a different narrative tone and dynamic. This gives players full replayability, keeps story consequences impactful, and saves you from having to code and balance two entirely separate game modes!
I agree with what you're saying—for instance, having the option to choose between Asami and Sakuya at the start of the game, with events changing depending on the route. As for free mode, I think it would be better if, once you unlock a girl, you could sleep with her at the hotel without being tied to the story or anything like that.
Sounds mighty promising!
So just that i got that right, the story Mode will only let you date 1 person and then in the sandbox Mode you can play the Story again but date more than 1 person?
Not exactly! Story Mode is the actual narrative experience, with choices and consequences. You can build relationships with everyone, but you won't be able to maintain several committed Love routes at the same time without consequences. Free Mode is meant to be much more of a sandbox once you've finished the main story, not simply "play the exact same story again but date everyone." The idea is to let you enjoy the characters and unlocked content freely without the narrative restrictions of Story Mode.
