Bad endings

Hi everyone!

I hope you're all doing well, thank you to everyone who took part in the latest poll!

Thanks to your input, Asami will finally get a storyline that does her justice. I’m not exactly sure when we’ll include it, but I’ll ask for your feedback when the time comes.

Today, I’d like to talk about something else that’s really important: bad endings.

A visual novel with choices is great, but if those choices don’t really change anything in the end, it can leave a bit of a bitter taste…

Would you be interested in seeing this kind of game mechanic?

For example:

  • If you had decided to ignore Yasuka’s problems,

  • If the conflict with Noriko had never been resolved,

  • Or if you had completely rejected Asami instead of becoming friends with her…

  • Etc

These kinds of decisions could lead to darker outcomes. Of course, that would mean including some unpleasant scenes, but it would also bring more tension to the game — a bad choice could have serious consequences.

What do you think?

P.S.: We’re a little behind on version 0.11… With a bit of luck, it should be ready by the end of April!

In a game featuring special scenes, a bad ending could well dampen a player's enthusiasm; still, I would prefer a happy ending.🫶

I think you can do both lines, as long as you mark the options that will lead to a bad ending (ntr or other endings), or give an option at the beginning similar to whether you want to turn on the bad ending (NTR line) switch. I think everyone can enjoy what they like, and at the same time, you also take into account two different audience groups. Although it may increase the workload, the game's internal capacity will also greatly increase, and perhaps everyone is willing to buy it, bro, This is simply a three win situation. lol

I would prefer a feel good experience without bad endings, but if they're going to be added anyway, I'd rather the choice that leads to it be obvious or just have an option to disable them. Some people may have that morbid curiosity to think "what if something bad happened at this stage of the story," and maybe it would give the good options more weight as some others have said, but not everyone wants to see something bad happen to characters that they've come to love. So making it obvious or having an option in the settings to disable them would prevent the people who don't want to see the bad endings without realizing from wasting their time seeing something they don't want to see if they're just going to reload an old save to back out of it anyway as someone else pointed out.

If adding bad endings is inevitable, then maybe make them optional in the settings or add hints in the choices, etc. For example, if I see that I'm moving towards a bad ending, then I'll go back and not play it out - so it's better to know in advance, rather than waste time on something I didn't want to see.

I can`t wait for the new version

I think you should be able to disable bad endings pregame or avoid them entirely through correct decision making. Maybe similar to how you can see the type of romance/rejection/domination route you'd take, add a NTR notification to the options.

it would be interesting to see bad endings but also maybe have it so that you cant save everyone and some are left to there fate it would leave open an options for multiple playthroughs

I must admit i was a bit disappointed that there was no bad ending / scenes at all. Even though it is implied all the way in the game. Kinda misses out on the heart pounding when a bad ending is approaching. But it is nice to have the way to avoid it and maybe being informed if things will go south if you choose a specific decision.

Kinda feel that having no bad ending would make the game predictable. Like we'd already know that MC would somehow end up with everyone, and that the antagonists would lose at the end. The side characters' stories would be less intriguing, decreasing the anticipation of how the story would unfold. But I do agree that there should be an option for the bad ending route as some players would prefer not to feel bad on their relationships. The game already has a good story. RNG just has to branch out a few endings for players with different preferences.

As an animation student, I think this story is already great! The characters feel so real that it hurts to see them get hurt. What players will love most is how the story lets them fix past regrets through relatable choices. When playing, most people will try their best to avoid bad outcomes. While sad endings can make the story feel more intense, they might also make players too worried. Not many players want to see bad endings on purpose, so spending lots of effort making detailed sad endings might not give the best results. Maybe instead of showing bad moments in full artwork scenes, we could use simple text on a black screen? Since this is a sweet love story, many quiet players might feel uncomfortable seeing bad things shown clearly. Keeping those parts simple would protect the story's warm feeling while still telling what happened.

yes, I think you can use this method, but not too often either.

I think the story is already talking about a restarting life, it may be weird if we still choose to go to a bad ending. But if it's needed for the following story then I'm fine with it.

Perhaps bad endings wouldn’t be such a bad thing, as long as there’s no ntr. I purchased the game on itch.io because I remember there was a statement saying ntr would never be included. But I guess voting is fair.

R
RNGeusEX · April 30, 2025

and I confirm that there never will be

I think adding bad endings has more pros than cons for sure It adds more tension to the story itself, I think that having an idea that a bad ending could happen might allow players to become more invested in the story to perhaps avoid it. That being said it would also make the player's choices feel like they actually matter more. Plus, more fetish content in an h-game is always good as it attracts more people to the game....for better or for worse. Also, as someone else has said, for the players who don't want to see that stuff, adding a feature to turn it off would settle disagreements about having to see these endings.

Wouldn't it destroy the basic plot twist if you added bad endings? After all, the MC was reborn or sent back in time to change the fate of the women.....

D
Datbop · April 14, 2025

I don't see how. Being sent back for a second chance doesn't necessarily come with a guarantee of success.

t
trace · April 14, 2025

I feel like the bad endings are part of the story being told. The MC sometimes talks about how horrible the future he woke up from was. If there were no bad ends, that would feel hollow.

R
RYU · April 14, 2025

Bad and good and perfect ending what do you thinks about this ?

D
Datbop · April 14, 2025

I would like to see bad endings as optional consequences. No need to force people to see what they don't like, but I also enjoy the drama and genuine tension, and think it adds to the story and replayability. So maybe include an option to skip or disable bad ending scenes, or maybe two game modes; one where you can lose, and one where you can't. Edit: Could even include some bad scenes that don't necessarily result in bad endings, such as maybe Akira getting past Macumba and into the night club if you didn't talk with Macumba enough or didn't get him to a certain friendship level. Maybe it even changes some later dialogue and Akira taunts the player about it. A negative outcome, but one where you can still steer back into a good ending. But that depends on how much effort you'd be willing to put into a bad route as opposed to just a bad ending or two for each character.

Magnus · April 14, 2025

So that means ntr then cause you fina get cucked

I
InfinityOne · April 14, 2025

Well, technically it wouldn't be NTR - just the natural course of things, if you don't fuck em... Or would you describe it as NTR when your neighbor fucks his wife?

L
LittleMoist · April 14, 2025

As long as the route explainer remains im happy

R
RttnKttn · April 14, 2025

I don't want bad endings, but they should exist, cause there is no light without darkness.

R
Ryan H · April 14, 2025

Bad endings are much like landmines a few goes a long way. They hopefully will all be just as avoidable. After all, we wouldnt want to need our protagonist to come back a 3rd time. Also Rng is there going to be any follow up on the golden eyes trait or is that the only way he knows he reincarnated and leaving the overall changes to him beyond the stats at that?

L
Loli Bandit · April 14, 2025

I don't think bad endings need to be in the game as long as some kind of changes in the story allow you to get different endings in general are there based on your choices.

P
Peach Enthusiast · April 14, 2025

Bad endings would increase replayability.
