Prayer Maxxing on the 4th of July (E380)
Jack LaRoche and Trey Grace spent Fourth of July weekend inside Intercessors for America’s “Rededicate America” event at the Museum of the Bible, and they tell Travis, Liv, and Jake all about it.
Intercessors for America (IFA) describes its own organizing model as “News. Prayer. Action.” In practice, it involves prophecy about the destiny of the United States, political prayer, and “spiritual warfare.”
At the sold-out two-day gathering, Jack and Trey encounter “prophetic elder” Dutch Sheets, spiritual warrior Cindy Jacobs, one-man performer Rich Swingle, and American Idol finalist Danny Gokey. What does the event reveal about the current state of Christian dominionism, anti-CRT school board panic, anti-Sharia politics, covenant theology, vaccine weirdness, and the New Apostolic Reformation-adjacent prophetic scene? It turns out that self-described modern prophets are increasingly anxious about Trump’s rapid aging and the lack of young people in their movement.

Here to say I really appreciated the mention and explanation of scrupulosity ocd! I was diagnosed with ocd in fourth grade and it’s gone through many phases- in middle school it was religious scrupulosity, despite being raised going to a UCC church (my pastor was a gay divorced woman studying Buddhism- no fire and brimstone there). If you ever want to gather listener stories on the topic for a deeper dive on how scrupulosity impacts Christian movements, I’d be happy to contribute! Jack, I’m so glad you’re on the pod!!!
‘It’s a type of Warhammer marine’ Oh Liv never have I related to you more deeply.
Great episode and Jack seems to be getting more natural with the scripts and flow (I’m sure doing it embedded gonzo-style helped). The “Make Heaven Crowded” tour is such viscerally uncomfortable wording to me 🥴 and I was raised Christian but definitely not this kind. But I’ve heard of Pentecostals. The hoggishness is unspeakable and yet QAA spake
I have been trying to finish listening to this for a week and the long clips of these freak religious wackos talking is hard to get through
missed opportunity for “neil young wrote ‘the needle & the damage done’ about vaccines”
Life is weird when watching public policy you have to say "South Park already did it". I believe it was the gluten episode where they reversed the food pyramid ...
I hear that “seven inches from the midday sun” reference, don’t think y’all got away with that
Feel better Corey
Thank you!
“Make heaven crowded” sounds like a euphemism for a mass shooting lol
When Liv talked about Space Marines, thousand of nerd voices uttered: We made it
not meant to be a complaint, just letting you know Wilkes-Barre is usually pronounced something closer to Wilkes-Berry as in a blueberry
Lucien Graves sucks.
Really good stuff guys! Absolutely terrifying portending of where we're going!
As a former Mississippi Pentecostal, every pastor I had actually pronounced Philistines the way the AI did. Good pull by the overlords to make it relatable to a handful of us.
It's actually called the mandalorian vs groglete
What’s Liv’s covid count at now
When are you guys going to start playing tabletop 40k? :3
I swear that voice from the AI video in the beginning of the ep sounds like Markiplier
everyone talks about the textiles bit in leviticus, but god goes a lot crazier there. he’s incredibly obsessed with burning the livers of sacrificed animals, commanding the genocide of the peoples of caanan and reiterating again and again just how evil and ungodly he thinks the israelites are and how badly he thinks they deserve to be punished
not to mention all the circumcisions. it is REALLY important to cut that bit of the penis and i’m always baffled to see how the christians managed to squeeze out of that one
Please do an episode on Victor Marx. Republicans are so cooked in Colorado
Liv knows! lol
We had a Satanic revival? God, I love my city.
Love Jack and Trey adventures. Love hearing ya'lls reaction to all the stuff I grew up with.
I’m sad that Julian wasn’t there for perhaps Jake’s all time worst shoe-horning of a Ghostbusters reference.
I worked on Average Joe. Fucking crazy experience. The real Joe came to set and was an absolute psycho.
Omg Bunny Fufu mentioned😍
DCC wink in there?
Yall I grew up 5 mins away from Asbury, would go there to swim and walk my dogs. They are so fucking nuts lmao
Does Jack (and by extension, the rest of you) not realize that TST is not a left org?? Lucien Greaves is a fascist who illustrated a copy of Might Makes Right and has used various racial slurs on numerous recorded interviews. TST is to be discarded.
Please do an episode on PM… their PAC has infiltrated our local elections here in Tarrant County, I will say we have been busting our ass to get their candidates off local school boards and we did a pretty incredible job this last cycle. In my personal district, voters have removed all three Patriot Mobile PAC candidates off our school board. Oh and True Texas Project is another unhinged, influential PAC here in Texas. Their leaders are fully red pilled.
2 hrs? it must be someone's birthday
Somebody ain't Dutch. That's not how you pronounce Huizenga. It's pronounced Hizenga.
I’m pretty sure the guy who created Veggie Tales is fine, at least relatively speaking. like a weirdo Evangelical obviously, but I believe he’s anti Trump, anti Republican Party, etc. If that helps with the psychological damage of the Dead Sea squirrels or whatever.
Phil Visscher is most definitely anti Trump.
8 blinks is crazy. They’re gonna spend like 5 blinks just for the scene where Grogu falls asleep when he does that thing where he keeps opening his eyes but it’s a lil bit slower and a lil bit less open every time.
AR-15 recoil is not strong enough to break bones. It's not a cannon, folks. 5.56 is basically a .22-sized bullet with more powder. More recoil, but not enough to leave so much as a light bruise unless you have hemophilia or something
Based on the audio, this whole episode I was imagining Trey as a robot head tucked under Jack’s arm.
I read this comment before listening to the episode and you've successfully implanted that image in my head
Liv summing it all up with, “They’re a neurotic bunch”
When he said ‘Balls of Fire spreading’ all I could think of was that old rock n roll song. ‘Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!’. As a Scottish listener I would also kill to hear that Braveheart accent, I have heard, as you can imagine, some absolute howlers of attempts at the accent. Usually people go too hard and end up sounding like a pirate.
I came into these comments sure I would find another Scottish person incensed that one of the speakers added "penicillin" to a list of America's achievements as evidence it's God's favoured nation.
Thank the gods prayer does nothing! 🙏
Liv Agar dropping Warhammer 40k lore like a stereotypical trans woman.
Jake failing to recognize the word kadosh was like watching the British guy put up the wrong 3 fingers in the bar scene in Inglorious Basterds. I haven't been to a temple in years but I still remember standing up on my tiptoes three times as we sang "kadosh kadosh kadosh Adonai tz'vaot" once a week in my reform synagogue for the Amidah.
Hello crawlers
HI ZEV!
If any of you want the backstory on spiritual warfare as a global phenomenon, here’s a paper. Excellent job on this episode! https://academia.edu/resource/work/23410293
Jack, you have this amazing skill to take an off the cuff joke and either fold it into the next scripted line, or just "yes, and.." it really really well and make it seem so casual. Great episode!
Off the rip Liv reading my mind at 6 mins
Goal-ee-ad county, not Gol-eye-ed county. The "come and take it" cannon flag comes from that county's namesake town.
Well MY prayers have been answered 🤘🏼
I read “Rededicate America” in the description as “Eradicate America” …. I guess both are good options in their own ways
They had me at 'Museum of the Bible'.
Hell yeah
1st?
