Project W Post: February 2024
So last time, in the very first info post I made about Project W, I mentioned how it had a historical fantasy setting. Now I'm gonna share a bit more about what that means.
First, the historical side of things. Project W takes place in the past, but not the super distant past. There's a mix of real and fantastical technology, but it's all vintage as opposed to ancient. End of the 1800s to the early 1900s is the general inspiration for this world's time period. I think it's gonna be a lot of fun to design outfits for the characters, haha.
As for how fantasy plays into it, there is a magic system that has a huge role in society and the plot. So, do you get to use magic? Yes, with a question mark. It depends on what you mean by "use". Let's just say there are multiple parts to making magic. Some major aspects of it, you never really do yourself.
But, not only that, there is a fantastical race that was created specifically for this game. The game doesn't have fairies, or witches, or dragons, or anything in that fantasy range. There are humans, there's real life animals, and then there's "L"s (that's just the first letter of a longer name). Ls are as intelligent as humans and the two races live within the same country. There are areas that are almost exclusively Ls, or humans, and places where there's more coexistence.
I'd also like to talk about another part of this game, and that's how it doesn't truly let you be "yourself" the way the OL series does. You can do whatever you want and design your MC fully, but the best you can manage here is imagining who you'd be in this time period, in this world, and in this story.
The obvious point is that I doubt many of you were born well over a century ago, though it doesn't stop there. Another fairly important difference between who you actually are and who you'll exist as in Project W is the MC is not human. You get to be the fantasy race. They're human-like in many ways, however their culture, the way they live, and what their bodies are even like are unique to them. If you follow human behavior/sensibilities as much as possible, that's fine to do, but it is gonna make you odd by your own species' standards.
Though, of course, there's no requirement to make the MC be yourself. If you want to come up with someone wholly different from you, that's wonderful. Doing that is completely possible with how things work.
And that's the info drop for this month! What do you think about it being a decently modern fantasy where you play as an inhuman being?

I might have read it wrong, but is the MC something I can costumize? With gender, hair, eyes, skin etc. Or is it a pre-made face and body? There is a part that explain it in this post but for some reasons I can't understand it well😅
That aside, those settings 1800/1900 are one of my favorites for a game/comic etc., I really love old London/England kinda vibes if it makes sense (like Sherlock Holmes for example) or Victorian age things in general for a fictional world. I love the vibes and clothes. Mix it with Fantasy, even better XD Steampunk and Alchemy are also two things I really like, I don't know if the game will have this as it does say magic (well, Alchemy probably is more likely to be a thing along with magic more than Steampunk XD) but either way that's just me mentioning my interests, not me expecting it in the game XD

Oooo! That sounds like it might be steam or diesel punk! I love the idea of getting to play as a non-human - especially a brand new species. I'm even more excited for this now! :D
Hell yeah!! Literally as soon as you mentioned the setting has some immersive stuff with a different fantasy race I was like "wow it would be so cool to actually be them". Was so glad when I scrolled down!!
I think this kind of game style fits really well for immersing the player in an entirely different world and showing what it feels like. Our Life showed me what life is like in America and what it's like having lgbt-supportive parents! I'm excited to get the same experience with funky magic creatures!!
Starting to regret wanting to know about this game purely because I keep remembering it doesn't exist and I can't play it yet ;-; I'm looking SOOO forward to learning more about this project!! 💕

I'm thinking of making a character loosely based on Sherlock Holmes (whether the MC could be a detective or not, that's ok, he'll just act like one 😁)....
ohhh so the setting is sort of like a historical urban fantasy? that's neat! and i think the late 1800s to the 1900s is such an interesting time inspiration since industrialization was still pretty prominent during that time. also i think it'll be fun to have a non-human mc!! i'm curious to see what 'non-human sensibilities' we can do, either way i think its funny that we'll be a little oddball lmao

the idea sounds so cool!! as someone that never plays “create-your-mc” games as myself (like someone said earlier, self inserting makes me uncomfortable — making a unique character for the setting is way more fun imo), being able to get immersed in L culture sounds super cool, esp with the chosen era!!
This is sounding like an interesting game. Huge relief that the MC is not human. Too many games have these cool races in a interesting world setting and then you're just stuck playing a human.

I'm really excited about a magic/fantasy concept and the way you "act" is "different".
Oh, nice! And I'm all in favor of MCs that are quite different from a normal human person considering I despise self inserting in games. My MCs are never "me" - that makes me so uncomfortable! And so, on that note, if you're willing to share... Will this game still be written in second person, or will we get first or third?
I'm not entirely sure yet, but I'm considering first person for this one.

Oh I'm intrigued it's sound really interesting even more with the fact it will not include the usual race we found in fantasy genre either and the fact we will play the "L" race make me even more intruiged curious of how they will look and yes the design can definitely be interesting knowing that time!
