Our Life 2: Voiced Nickname Feature
We all remember the Voiced Name feature in the Our Life series. That's a classic. It's gonna be included in Our Life: Now & Forever. People will be able to request voiced names of their choice by supporting the upcoming Kickstarter campaign.
But we know not everyone who wants a voiced name will be able to get one for various reasons. If none of the names chosen by others end up working for you, we've got a comprise prepared: the Voiced Nickname feature.
It's possible to go by a nickname in Our Life: N&F. You can choose who is allowed to call you by that nickname and even have a special nickname exclusive to your closest friend and/or partner. There's an option to type in your own entirely custom nickname, or there will be the choice to use one of the preset voiced nicknames.
Nicknames will not be something you back for; they'll be chosen by us developers and through popular player demand in order to have a broad selection that will make as many people happy as possible. There's going to be 30, potentially more, voiced nicknames to choose from.
If you can't have a name you requested yourself said out loud, you can still have a semi-personalized experience by picking out one of the many fun voiced nicknames. Maybe you want to hear Qiu call you cutie, or Tamarack call you dude, or something else!
And just like the voiced first names, you can change your nickname as time goes on. Also, you can have both a voiced name and voiced nickname active, if there's options you enjoy for each type of name.

Been so waiting for this Kickstarter since I missed out on the voiced names in Our Life lol. I mean having my gamer name on there was cool. But my real name is something I really wanna hear in a game lol

The Voiced Nickname Feature is a great idea and I think you're the only game developers who've come up with it. However, I have mixed feelings about my name. On the one hand, it would be very cool to hear my name in the game. On the other hand, my name is super unique and no other person has a name like mine. Human names are repeated, and many humans bear the same name. Our names are unique and no one else uses the same. If someone else used my name to register on Steam or any other forum on the internet, I'd probably get angry. Therefore, on the one hand, I would like to include my name in Voiced Nickname and on the other hand, I would like to avoid it so that no one else uses it.
I'm sorry you have that struggle. Unfortunately, you'd have to decide between not having it voiced or putting it out there for everyone, since there's not a way to include a voiced name only one player can use.

Hi! I use the browser just because I think it's easier. The link in this post will send you to the OL2 Kickstarter page, though you're not able to back it at the moment since it hasn't started. There is an option to be notified via email when the kickstarter opens. If you aren't logged in, the site will take you to a sign in page and it doubles as a sign up page if you don't have an account. When you finish, or if you already had one, it'll send you back to the page. You'll then be notified whenever the kickstarter opens.

I think Qiu calling the player “love” would be so sweet.. and if Tam ever called us “dude” I would probably cry laughing. I can’t even imagine!! 😂

I'm imagining during step 2 I'd have different nicknames with every single person! Like Tamarack would be Tama, Qiu would keep the Autumn, cause its really cute!, and Baxter would be Bitch, in an endearing way, cause we would be frienemies because of Qiu.

Would it be possible to add regular names to voiced nicknames? Not knowing what Kickstarter donors are going to pick, but let's say someone picked 'Bob' for a regular name, and someone wanted to be called Sally 'Bob' Bloom, would it be possible for Tam/Qiu to verbally say Bob?
Maybe. The voiced names and voiced nicknames could remain as totally separate lists, or it might be possible to access the full list of voiced lines for the nickname. I don't know for sure.
Bestie, sweetheart, love/my love, bug, pumpkin, dear, and romeo are some of my suggestions! I also really love cutie lol. This is such a cool and thoughtful feature yall are the best 💕

Amazing - love, love, love this is a feature! Especially for peeps who can't get their name in there. Also: EXCLUSIVE NICKNAMES??? MELT. Two questions: Can MC have more than one nickname in a step (like: Liz, Lizzie in OL1) to cycle through, like pronouns? My Step 2 MC -- yup, I'm already thinking about it -- will have her childhood one and then a teen one. B: Will there be default/canon nicknames you come up with for Tam/Qiu to use for MC? As much as I like having the choice to make one, also love them just springing one on us(and swooning)! OMGOSH - I JUST THOUGHT OF TAM SAYING SOMETHING IN GERMAN 🤤🥴🤯
I'm glad you like it! But I don't believe you'll be able to have multiple nicknames you can cycle through like pronouns. It will likely be limited to one nickname a person uses but getting to have different people use a different nickname. And there's a decent likelihood that the two will have certain words they use on their own that could also work as voiced nicknames, but there won't be anything that's treated as default or canon and no nickname will be put on the MC automatically.

Super neat! Just out of curiosity, how do you guys handle name pronunciation when a backer submits a name? Do you ask them to submit a voice file with the correct pronunciation? (Asking as someone with a name who’s constantly mispronounced lol)
