Our Life: The Question (Step 4)

I wouldn't be able to either! I'm a shy, easily flustered person. Probably dance around the subject. Asking what his thoughts are about marriage. If he would ever marry young...etc.

MC makes cove some food or baked good with a ring inside of it. Cove eats it and MC gets increasingly worried as nothing is mentioned (cove is just happily munching away). The treat is totally eaten. MC starts to panic, thinking Cove ate the ring. They start mumbling something about it and Cove gets anxious, confused about your reaction. MC mentions something about a ring. Cove is startled and is all "I ate a WHAT??" Turns out the ring was on the counter the whole time (MC forgot to put it in) so when MC notices it (maybe they go to search for it?) they grab it and get down on one knee. The proposal could be before you find the ring or after (perhaps proposing before you find it and after you find the ring again?)

MC could also wake up next to Cove somewhere and as they gaze lovingly at Cove they think something along the lines of "I never want this to end" and just blurt out "Marry me"

Another idea: MC and cove eat one of those cupcakes with fake rings on it (or maybe a candy like a ring pop). MC slips the ring on Cove's ring finger and mentions how good it looks on him. Cove gets flustered at the teasing because of how it looks (and because of how badly he wants to be married to you) and then MC gets all serious and proposes

MC taking cove to all of his favorite places, reminiscing and reminding Cove of the day he took MC to a bunch of dates. The day ends in their hotel where MC asks cove to close his eyes and then covers the bed in a heart shaped collage of pictures of them together throughout their lives (one of them can even be the picture you took together on the jet ski day!). As cove tears up at the gesture, MC gets down on one knee. Then the tears and "oh my gods" just gush out as Cove realizes what is about to happen...!!!

I know it would be a lot of work, but I imagine the MC taking Cove back to the aquarium for a date but having a surprise in store... MC makes an excuse to leave Cove in front of the big tank like from step 3. Then MC changes into a mermaid outfit and swims in the tank surprising Cove, proposing to him while in the tank with a sign or something else. What do you all think? What would you change in this scenario?

When I saw this question, for some reason a proposal with a song came to my mind!

One question. Is this just for Step 4 or will there be an updated for the proposal in step 3?

I wouldn't like to propose in the middle of the road, lol I would have preferred to ask him at the hotel on their first night together. You approach Cove, take his hand in yours, and ask, "Are you certain you want to be with me?" As a safety measure, since the time you made your request, you have only had one desire. Cove responds, "I've never been so happy in my life, I've loved you since the first time I saw you." In a soothing mood, take his hand in yours and place a light kiss on the tip of his hand. Cove freezes, not used to this level of contact with you, and you give him a look to see if you can go on. He looks at you with embarrassment, curiosity, and affection. After your intense gaze, he whispers your name: "Jamie?" What you feel is the weight of all those years spent together rocked by the comings and goings of life squeezing your heart to the point of binding your throat. Of a life where you don't live together and only see glimpses of him when you get a chance to be together. It wasn't enough, no, it was just sad, especially now that you've decided to start a relationship. While you were immersed in your feelings, Cove approached you and held your face with one hand while continuing to hold your hand with the other. Cove, worried asks you: "Is there something wrong, Jamie?" Your face resting in his hand soothes you and loosens the knot in your throat. "It's not enough," you say to him. Cove : "What ?" You pull his left hand to your mouth and put a deep kiss on his ring finger. "Marry me, Cove, I want your every day and your everything," you said. This was the bare minimum you could do before your thirst for love drove you crazy of wishing for more.

I'd love if we can do it as a date idea like in the "happiness" dlc in step 3 when we could suprise cove w/ the field of poppies, but take him to a sentimental place. The beach, the hill, the park, back to that field, or even the leaving sunset bird sign. It would also be incredibly sweet to harken back to how long we've felt this way, or even joke about how we told moms we'd marry him right away. Or if we held in our feelings for a while, say how hard that was to do. I don't have a solid idea... I'm usually very affectionate w/ cove, & blunt w/ the family about my feelings (teasing doesn't bother me really). As fun as cove is to tease, I'd like to take the proposal, & marriage, seriously. Sweet words to sweep him off his feet (even though we've already knocked him off them many times over). I'd want to be as clear as possible about how much he means to me. A guiding firefly of light & joy. Idk, I try to act casual & confident, but I'm a huge romantic that wants to spoil him to death, & make him feel like the most important man in the world. As cute as it would be to flirtatiously joke about stealing his last name, I'd go for syrupy sweet words every time.

For a bold MC, the casual "So why aren't we married yet?" drop.

I'd love if we pulled a Cove and got really sentimental! Like mentioning something along the lines of things we did when we were younger: such as building a sandcastle, catching lightning bugs/fireflies, and/or playing hide n seek at the library before saying "can we do that for the rest of our lives?"

mc Bee is just like an incredibly spur of the moment kind of gal so it would literally be a matter of Cove doing anything that she can look at fondly and her just going “i want to be your wife” as if that’s a normal thought to say out loud lol queue Cove dying and Bee being like “honey… honey please i’m sorry i didn’t mean to— well i mean it but— Cove, love, come on—“

Maybe a call back to when he said he wished he could meet a mermaid and you asked each other if you'd leave if the chance arose. Maybe, " That mermaid hasn't come yet, so can I wisk you away instead?"

I think it would be silly but could still be cute if you give Cove an ankle bracelet (with the actual engagement ring wrapped around it, like those campaign glasses with the ring inside) and ask if he’d like MC to put it on him

Cove I've known you were special from the moment I looked into those beautiful blue eyes. Time has only proven me rite. There is something I need to ask you because I can't continue to live another day without knowing if you will be mine forever. Cove, will you make me the happiest person on the planet and...... marry me?

“I know nothings truly certain, but what’s certain to me right now is I love you. So… would you consider staying with me for as long as we can?”

Jokingly circling back to the $20 bribe from Cliff somehow if you chose the option to tell Cove in Step 3 would be cute!

Dating only 1 day, but knowing each other for most of the life... Still temptating for marriage

that's really sweet, i can't wait to play all the variations!! I love my MC Lia, who is very confident in comparison to Cove. But i feel when it comes to him she can be very shy and humble, he's the only one she's ever had feelings for after all. I think she'd say something simple but full of longing like "Please marry me, Cove. You're all I've ever wanted." and then be in shock and laugh in disbelief when he accepts.

"Hey Cove I don't like your last name. How about you have mine 👉👉"

Something along the lines of "For most of my life I thought marriage was pointless and I never quite got it. But when I look at you or even just think of you I finally get it. You're my everything."

I think it would be adorable to have the option of asking again even if we have been engaged since Step 3

I think just straight up saying something like "Is it too soon to ask you to marry me?" would be super cute. He'd probably get super flustered and yell "No! I mean, no, it's not to soon!" or something else very silly

my favorite dynamic set up between cove and the mc is an mc who’s super casual about everything vs Cove The Drama King. so i’d like an option that’s really forward/simple; something that’s just all like “sooo i think we should get married” that could easily be slipped into an otherwise normal (if not romantically charged) conversation. idk, anything that would take cove a moment or two to process before he fully registers what you’re saying. then he can give us a classic error 404, cove’s soul not found reaction lmao

I think it would be cute if Cove and mc are having some kind of moment on the beach and then mc just casually writes "Marry me?" on the sand

I personally would like cove to propose to me, but I live for being a troll. I’d love to see Cove’s reaction to MC saying “Hey, Cove? I don’t think I want to be your boyfriend/girlfriend anymore…” and MC doesn’t say anything else after that for a while in hopes to get Cove to retaliate. After some mild confusion and a state of panic from Cove, they would pull out the box and ring and be like, “I want to be your hubby/wifey!!!” “Please don’t ~ever~ scare me again like that,” Cove sighs in relief. “Haha! Sorry. I couldn’t help myself, honey~”

I love the idea of a bold character just being quite forward and casual about it, like "So, do you wanna get married?" I also love the idea of a shy character being given the option to say that thought from the screenshot out loud by accident <3

"So, uh, how would you feel if I said I'd like to spend the rest of my life *Holden* on to you?" *finger guns

"We've spent so much of our lives together already, wanna stay together forever?" *Insert awkward ring reveal* or saying "wanna do it forever" and have Cove get flustered cause he takes it the wrong way 🥰

I'd love a reference to the redwood forest where MC says something like "I know Liz was just teasing us before, but I've thought hard about it this time and I do. So, will you marry me? If you say yes, you might have to wear some layers again though. Suits tend to be like that for a groom."

Maybe If you pick “I’m gonna marry him” at the beginning of the game the proposal could go like : from the moment I met you I knew you were the only one for me, so Cove Holden would you marry me?

MC tripping over their words. What they planned to say is not what comes out of their mouth ("will you marry me" or something of that sort comes out instead as incoherent nonsense) and it causes both parties to be very confused but Cove somehow gets the message

For both proposing to and being proposed to I'd like the option to choose setting and stuff. Like, casual vs romantically planned out or public vs private. Maybe Cove can ask probing questions for his proposal and you can ask some too or just spring it on him?

definitely just blurting out "marry me" and then when he inevitably goes red and is like "w-what?" the mc would start rambling like "oh no I wanted it to be romantic, I mean I have a ring and everything, I didn't meant to just say like that, I--" so that Cove is the one calming down the mc and the tables can be turned for once 😭😭

I can only come up with the most awkward one yet: "You. Me. Marry. Now!"

The way I could see my MC asking is along the lines of. "Hey.. if you're not busy or anything.. I dunno.. wanna get married?" Or "wanna get married to the cutest neighbor around?". It'd be cute for Cove to tease with a "oh?. and who's that?".

there could be a nervous one, like “hey, so uh. i have something kiiiiinda important to ask. maybe.” i think it would be fun to make him confused and then go “will you, uh, marry me?” and he just is Stunned
