Regarding picking middle names for the LI's (and this is of course, anecdotal), a lot of Chinese Americans I know have middle names that are either their actual Chinese name or their mother's maiden name and then they have an English/American-sounding first name. And, as an Asian person myself, many of them have introduced themselves to me as their Chinese name and then someone will come along and call them Emily or something and it was always like, huh? 😅️ So, when you said you wanted to pick a name for them my immediate thought was, "oh, we're going to find out in Step 3 that Qiu's legal name has actually been Brian this whole time" 🤣️
