OL2: Beta Build 1.5.3-4 📋 (PC, Mac, Android)
EDIT: There was an issue with character sprites displaying for some players. Shawna created a build with fixes for that! The 1.5.3 files have been replaced, so you can just use the links here to get the fixed version.
This is the very last beta of 2025 🎉. It continues progress into Step 2 with the start of the linked Moments and then Part 1 of PJ Day, which is one of the two linked Moments of the teenaged years.
To see most of the content, you need to vote to have the fundraiser happen before the tests!

Just played the beta for the first time and loved it! One thing though, during the step one moment, Home, there doesnt really seem to be an option to be sad about the canceled plans without being mad at opal. I picked mc wanting opal to think they're okay when they didnt actually feel okay, and was surprised when later the only options i had were to be mad at her. It just feels limiting
If the MC goes after Tamarack ('You charged after her, planning to bring her back'), during Step1 Moment, Trick or Treat, when the chance to give the MC's opinion of the adult's Halloween party, could they suggest to Tamarack 'Let's get back to Qiu and his mom, it's boring here anyway.' or 'We shouldn't have taken off from Qiu and his mom, there's nothing to see here.'?
Going through Step 1 as a Very Quiet, Rules Follower, shy, and casual 'Mouse' (everyone called the MC by that nickname then, and then had become by the time of Step 2 as the Talkative, rowdy, rule-breaker (still casual) 'Lion Cub'. So it was a surprise when Lion Cub cheekily suggested that Tamarack and the MC jump into the pile of leaves the two worked on, and Tamarack noted: 'Wow. You've really never outgrown your wild side." I know the game's not set up for the player to say how long they've been one way and switch to something else (let alone not quite sure and is trying to figure it all out), but maybe she should say "Wow. You've really grown a wild side." or "Wow. You've really grown a wild side over the years (considering it may have happened over time, between Steps like starting to wear glasses)."
Going through with a strongly silent MC, I was wondering if the MC, if close to Qiu (i.e. Friends/Crush) after being called a friend by Qiu in the Intro for Step 1, could there be a second nonverbal response, such as holding a hand over the heart and giving a smile (or maybe a friendly hand on Qiu's shoulder or arm in solidarity) to show they feel the same about Qiu? Otherwise it's just 'You just don't know what to say.'
For Step 1 DLC Moment 'Home', when Opal breaks the news that she was called to work and wants to drive the MC to school on her way there, with the MC who enjoyed the special days off of work, and had taken her hand to make her feel better even if the MC didn't, could there be an option to give Opal a hug in thanks before picking up their school bag? Whether they are feeling happy or sad, they are grateful not just for having a ride to school in the pouring rain, but also for their parent. Later on in the Moment, the MC could grab a scratch paper to write down who they wanted to stay with after being taken back to the cul-de-sac. Could the MC be able to flip over the scratch paper to write down how they feel to Qiu/Tamarack? As a middle ground between making those feeling public to entire classroom and just keeping it all to oneself, where only Qiu and Tamarack (and maybe Ms. Murray as well, depending on how close she stayed near a crying/worried/upset MC) is there to read the scratch paper?

Is there a place to check for bug reports? I noticed in public demo on steam when doing the extra curriculars, I could choose multiple options (so I like novels and poetry) but in the beta build I'm doing it and it will only let me click one (so novels) and then it moves on to the next 'category' select screen like sports, tv, etc. so I can't say I also like poetry.
When the MC meets up with Tamarack while Friends, at the library, could there be an option that to say you like her sleeping outfit (pyjamas and housecoat), or like her sleeping bag? It seems the MC either really likes Tam's choice for sleepwear, or really doesn't, but there isn't something that's in between that's at least somewhat positive about it. Considering the MC could have a second-hand sleeping bag (bought at the used goods store or handed down from Opal), the MC should have the option to be able say something positive about Tam's sleeping bag that may have been her grandparents or her father's old sleeping bag.
I know when going to school together the first time, you have an opportunity to change to 'friends' with Qiu if you first chose neighbors. Does anyone know if there's another opportunity for that in step 1 with Qiu or will I have to wait till Step 2 / in-bweteen to change it again?
There's several opportunities for your MC to change their relationship with Qiu for the better, such as Wheels, Hide & Seek, Magic, and Colourful Class.

If the MC went to the park with Opal, and is picked up by Baxter, could the MC have a fourth option where they text Opal to let her know that Baxter found them and wanted to know if it was alright to go back home with Qiu and Baxter? I wanted to go with Baxter and Qiu, but felt bad about leaving Opal waiting without letting her know about the situation, esp. when the MC could text her.
This is my first time playing OL2 since the introduction of Step 1. The journey through Step 1 was so wholesome and tender that I did tear up a couple of times. I love both Tamarack and Qiu, but I admit that Qiu is my favorite. When meeting Qiu in Step 1, my MC told them they were pretty. When introducing the boys' club, I was surprised that they remembered that comment, because they said their reason for inviting my MC to the boys' club was that she was pretty. 😂 In "Wheels," I chose to have a scooter. It was a happy surprise to me that the boys had bikes and the girls had scooters. When we reached the racing event, my MC was conflicted because she wanted to join, but it wouldn't be fair because her scooter wouldn't be able to catch up. When Qiu decided to let my MC ride with them, it surprised me. My MC decided to take his offer, but decided to get off the bike in the middle. After the race, the option to have a crush on Qiu also surprised me. It felt natural to move from just friends to a crush after that. The conversation in the treehouse "Magic" moment touched me a lot. Qiu is worrying about people's opinions and trying to make everyone happy. I loved the option about his job to make everyone happy, then the MC will make it their job to make Qiu happy. It was so sweet to see Qiu let their guard down and give MC a hug. In the "Home" event, it was lovely to see Qiu remember what the MC said about making him happy after giving him the leaf. I also couldn't help but feel sad for Tamarack. It made me wonder why her parents decided to have her if they weren't going to be a part of her life. Then seeing Qiu snap at Baxter over Tamarack's glasses shocked me a bit, but that was probably a preview of Qiu's ennui in Step 2. I didn't like their change personally, but my MC and Qiu ended up becoming best friends and having a crush on each other. They have someone to rely on. It was so sad to see them push their parents away, too. However, watching Qiu vent made me understand why they became chilly. Then, going through the first part of PJ Day, when Qiu refused to participate in the paper fortune, made me understand why Tamarack and Qiu stopped being friends. I groaned when it happened. I'm eager to explore the options presented in part 2.
Thank you for sharing your experience! But Qiu uses they/them pronouns in Step 2.
I love that you can customize the conversation theme and the character's nickname on your phone in game. Tamarack and Qiu are so cute in their pjs!

this might be a dumb question, but if i delete the previous version of the beta from my laptop, will my old saves/data from that version still be in the current version, or will it also be deleted? im not very tech savvy so i just want to make sure before i delete anything to clear space.
from my experience the saves carry over. I tend to install the new one unzip the files then delete the old one and my data is there

Tamarack stays in the background behind Qiu when they start talking to you after the paper fortune teller scene if you don't let Tamarack tell your fortune. Also, this new Moment is super cute. XD Qiu dropping that line to tell Tamarack about your underwear was hilarious.

NOOO maaan, I downloaded last night and then woke up to the edit notice 😭Staying up to 1am for Nothing. Fingers crossed it works for me. Half the time, the mirror download never really works and I always need to wait a day or two to finally download the main one.

Doing a fresh playthrough with my favourite MC, I ran into an odd bug. The MC did not have a problem with lactose at the Diner Table, but had problems with milk and butter at Mrs. Baumann's kitchen during Mixed Up. I wasn't sure which one of the Step 1 Moments to start with, wanting to try something different (I usually go for Fancy Fun before Mixed Up, so I never ran into this before, since the player could choose a range of milk/milk substitutes their house may have; I usually have other options available in the fridge for when Qiu came by to visit between the Moments).

I'm sorry. Are you making a brand new character or are you changing your character at the start of Step 2 or changing their outfit during a Moment?

For the Tamarack thing, I've heard from the programmer that starting the moment over can resolve the problem and, if not that, than loading a save from before playing Assistance and doing PJ Day as your first Moment will avoid the problem.

Thank you for the update! I have run into a glitch where Tamarack's pj sprite isn't showing up in the library so it's just her face floating on the ground.
I'm sorry! Are you loading a save file or did you start a new game? Maybe this time the saves aren't properly loading into this updated version of the game.
Oh and Qiu's sprite doesn't pop up either when they arrive
Thanks for the update! Sadly, after you pick out your pajamas, there are a lot of errors that come up back to back with the player needing to either press ignore or rollback
