Heyo Kab, David and Team! This is my first time participating in a Q&A so i'll just keep the questions simple :D Tho first i wanted to say thank you for creating the Our Life games! I adore them & hold them very close to my heart. When i first played OL1 i was in a bad place but playing the game really gave me comfort and saved my days! So for my first question i was wondering, would it be a possibility (maybe even with a kickstarter) for you to release an artbook based on the OL games? Cuz i really love collecting artbooks & would be thrilled to have a OL one too. 2, how would Step2 Qiu react if a love interest MC (with a russian heritage) called them "sunshine" in russian as a nickname? And lastly, 3, in Moment "Wheels" if i recall correctly, (if you pick a Skateboard etc.) Ren says that theyre not as fast as bikes. But later on she starts skating too, so when did she get a Skateboard and started to learn how to skate? That is all, thank you again for everything you do! Hello! Hope you guys are doing well! First, I wanted to ask about Serenity. I love Serenity already, but I would like to know more about her. Can you share some fun facts or more info about them that won't spoil anything? The next two questions are about Tamarack. Is there an in-game reason her parents chose that name for her? Also, genuinely curious, but Tammy's parents give off the vibe that they never intended to have children, or that they wanted children, but raising a child was a lot more work than they expected. I mean, they neglected her while she was in their care, and now that she's with her grandparents, they act like it's optional to raise her! Would you say that either of these is accurate, or am I reading it wrong? Lastly, I read on your Tumblr that Opal is going to get a coily hair texture. Heya! Hope you're having a good day! Me and a friend combined some questions: 1. Is there a way to go from friends to crushes during a step? And if yes, how exactly does that work and is it already doable in the current demo? 2. Is there a way to make qiu surprised by using their nickname when you haven't before or something? 3. If the mc is the silent type, will that be acknowledged in any way? Like, if they just never talk and then do talk at some point, will anyone be surprised? 4. Now this is more something i've noticed, in fancy fun there is an option to cry when granny is scolding tamarack but it somehow doesn't get acknowledged any further than that as far as i noticed, and in my experience that just doesn't happen with adults? I may have just overlooked something tho. XD If any of those questions can't be answered for any reason that is totally fine and regarding the fourth, i can imagine that would simply be too much work to actually implement or something along those lines and it really doesnt matter all that much! I know you’ve been doing awesome at writing, but it still seems like there’s so much left to program to be able to release the game next year. Tamarack in steps 1 and 2 reminds me a lot of myself when I was a little girl with undiagnosed autism. Her character is almost 1:1 with my own autistic traits. So, I'm just curious if that's the case or if I'm just projecting really hard, lol.

I recall seeing folks talk about Qiu's nickname a while ago and wanted to ask in Step 1, does Qiu actually like the nickname Autumn or do they just offer it because people struggled with their name, or they felt like they "had to" offer an english alternative?

I understand if some of these can't be answered at this stage or are too choice based/broad. 1) What are some things the OLNF main leads are jealous of (not over) when it is related to the MC? For instance, the MC can be jealous that Qiu is popular because the MC wants to be seen as popular as well. I wasn't sure if there was anything specific that may be a common theme. 2) Is there any specific history about Opal? I know some things are headcanon, like where the family previously lived. Though, I do get the feeling her working a lot and having MC looked in on, etc. is nothing new for their dynamic, which is understandable for a single-mom. 3) I'm curious how that wears on her or how she sees their dynamic. They can have their heart-to-heart in Step 1, and it seems like it will still be a factor in Step 2, etc.

- I noticed there’s a line in the Assistance moment saying that Baxter has been going on dates with prep school girls, is having only girls mentioned in that line purposeful? Is he avoiding being seen with boys/enbies at this age? - What would Mrs. and Mr. Murray do if they caught a ‘do you like me yes/no’ note being passed in class? - Maybe a weird question, but I’ve been curious for fanart reasons lol- naturally because of the art style of the first game, almost no one has body hair. But, realistically, what would the body hair situation be for the OL1 men? Do any of them shave?

I’d love to know more about Baxter/Cove/Derek’s general food preferences—what kinds of food do they like? And especially, how do they feel about spicy food? Can they handle it?

Hey again. So I've seen comments about the not happening Ren DLC, and it made me think of some possible questions for it. If you can’t really answer any of these, that’s cool. 1. With the Friends/Crushes system, how do you think the whole “Darren not being friends with girls” thing would be handled during Step 1? Would they still be awkward around a Female MC, or would said MC be seen as the one and only exception? 2. I remember from a previous ask that it was said that Ren was bullied during middle school. Hypothetically, what would their reaction be if an MC saw this and defended them? This is assuming that the MC and Ren are hypothetically friends/crushes at this point, and also go to the same middle school. 3. Do you think it would have been difficult to write around the age gap? I can’t imagine Step 1 wouldn’t have been too bad, but what about Step 2, with them being in different levels of high school? And Step 3, where Renee is a full-on adult and the MC, I believe, has just graduated? Would that have added to the “distance” between them?

hi kab, hi david, and hello to the rest of the gb team! hope you're having a pleasant december and a happy holidays or have had a pleasant december/happy holidays since the q&a comes out at the end of the month lol. anyways, i have a few questions to ask if that's alright! 1. this is a very small but interesting detail that i noticed when it came to baxter's design: in his step 4 sprite, i realized that his eyebrows are different! they have an arch in them, and from what i've noticed, his previous sprites have straighter eyebrows. on top of that, there's a line of narration in his step 4 that mentions him having "manicured eyebrows." did baxter actually get his eyebrows done? if he did, why did he choose to do so? i just think it's really endearing how he was so dedicated to changing his look by step 4 and so dedicated to his appearance that he ended up changing the entire shape of his eyebrows haha. 2. another baxter question i apologize haha. anyways, if the 17 year old version of baxter we see in step 2 somehow ended up in xod and attended saint sara belle, how would the jerks feel about him? your answers don't have to be ridiculously long or detailed, of course. i know how impossible that would be lol 3. here's a holiday related question! how do the olba and olnf leads (plus ren bc i love her) celebrate christmas? what do they like to do for the holidays if they do celebrate? do they celebrate with their families (obviously baxter doesn't during step 4 haha)? when baxter was still in contact with his parents/still living with them, how did he celebrate with his family (if they celebrated at all)? you can keep your answer vague when it comes to the latter, of course. no one wants to talk about baxter's parents in any sort of detail lmao. 4. the timeline in olnf and xod confuses me a wee bit (it's not your fault i promise lmao), so i hope you'll be able to clear some things up for me haha. first off, in olnf, we know baxter is 17 by step 2 and it's mentioned a few times that he'll be leaving for college soon. that made me think he's a high school graduate by then (mainly because i myself graduated before i turned 18 lol) and is leaving for college the following year since he mentions in his step 4 in the first game that he left golden grove in 2015, but is he actually? does he actually graduate in 2015 and leave for college shortly afterwards? additionally, i've always thought that the jerk squad and JB graduate from SSB in 2016, but apparently they graduated in 2017 (seeing as the post about pran's olnf step 3 sprites mentioned that he graduated "a year ago," and olnf step 3 takes place in 2018). is that correct? anyways, that's all from me! i had another two questions i really wanted to ask but then i realized we can only ask four or fewer questions, so i'll save those for next time haha. i hope you guys stay safe and warm this winter, and i hope development on olnf continues to go well!

Step 4 OLBA Baxter and Step 4 OLNF Baxter appears to have very different hairstyles where even the parting is opposite but if i’m not wrong, they are in the same timeline. Were his designs intended to be this different? 2. Do you think Baxter is a girl dad or a boy dad coded character? I kinda think he’ll be so perfect as a girl dad if he has a daughter in the future! 3. Would Baxter send out invites to the Golden Grove crew for his wedding and how would his reaction be like if they all turn up? Considering they barely interacted and are no longer close except when he’s helping out with Qiu/Tama’s wedding

I understand that XOXO Droplets is canon to the Our Life universe, and the Lake of Voices is canonically a game in that shared universe. What is the status/canonicity of the other games you've made (Foretold Affair, Magical Divorce Bureau, Blood Droplets, and Floret Bond) to the main share universe? In addition, do you have a name for what this shared universe is called, and if so, what would it be?

Hello GB and David, thank you for the Q&A sessions as always. You know what time it is, more questions for our precious ocean boy. Also, advance or late Merry Christmas to the GB Patch team! :) 1.) So in OLBA, the relationship level with Cove reflects the player’s choices. If your character is indifferent, he’s indifferent, if you have a crush on him, it becomes mutual. However, considering that Cove is introverted and emotionally distant in Step 1 because of his situation—would he realistically develop feelings for the player right away just because they like him? Or would it take time for him to warm up? Like… would he be fine if a kid MC was too forward in befriending him or too introverted but likes him? Would he be annoyed by them? Basically, if this were real life and there were no “relationship meter” in determining their relationship, how would someone get Cove to gradually shift from indifference to friendship, to a crush, and eventually to love? I’ve been wondering this for a while and I hope this isn’t too confusing! 2.) How would Cove react to being with an MC who’s really short. And I mean like 4’7” to 4’11”? Would he find the height gap a little funny or awkward, and maybe tease them sometimes in a way that’s more “cute and slightly embarrassing” than anything mean? I can imagine him smirking a bit in public, feeling amused but also kind of protective. Would he be weirded out by it especially about how it looks in public? Oh oh bonus if they think he’s their older brother or something, that would be so funny. 3.) Could Cove realistically be both studious and buff at the same time? Technically, the player can customize him that way, but since his appearance usually reflects his personality—sporty Cove is buff, while studious Cove tends to be thinner—how would a “Studious-Buff” Cove work? Could we imagine him going to the gym more as a hobby or for a healthy lifestyle rather than serious training, similar to nerdy, fitness-conscious guys who maintain their physique as part of their routine? I’m curious how “Buff-Studious” Cove would differ from “Buff-Sporty” Cove in terms of personality and lifestyle.

I know later in OLBA Cove gets diagnosed w autism, is that something that the main character could say they were diagnosed with/ realised about themselves? Hello, I hope you're having a good and lovely day! I wanted to ask a simple question, but I still want to think about it! So far in OL2, is there any way to make Qiu jealous? Because even though it says he's jealous in the "Our Feelings" section, not much happens. When I talked to Ren, I tried to be as kind as possible and then mentioned it to Qiu, but he didn't seem to pay much attention. Also, what does he think about the fact that (this is a spoiler based on what I've read so far) someone else besides us has a romantic interest in him (Austin, who I think isn't in the game yet...)

hello first time asker, very excited to be here! first of all, happy holidays to everyone on the team. 1. i know you said the ren dlc isn't happening due to the length of the game (and also sorry if youve answered this in a previous q&a) but do you have plans for any other dlcs in olnf? something similar to (but doesnt have to be) the 18+ olba dlcs on patreon? 2. i wanted to ask how you get the motivation to keep writing for olnf (besides the promise of a completed game and the money already invested in the game), say for example you were doing this game just as a hobby, would you still be able to complete the full game without leaving it unfinished? I ask this because I also enjoy writing and want to make my own game but i struggle with actually writing something to completion before i start planning other things so I wanted to see if you have any tips to avoid burnout and the like. 3. this is project w related but were you going to work on it immediately after finishing olnf? do you already have the outline of the plot thought out or is it more of a wip still but you have like concept for the mcs race all thought out? 4. lastly, i understand that the OL series is ultimately a series where good things happen but since olnf is able to have a more serious or more angsty teenage years, will olnf touch on predudice that qiu and other characters may face in a school setting or will that be more subtle and left to the player to headcanon rather than be a story element? Hello! I wish you all in GB Patch a happy december and a happy holliday! Also you are all doing amazing work! This will be my first question to you and I'm sorry if it's allready been asked. I'm just wondering what kind of pet/pets Derek, Baxter, Qiu and Tamarack would have if they were allowed to have pets as they grow up. We do know that Cove have his cute fishies but I'm really curious about the rest. Also how would they all act around their said pet/pets. Would their parents end up taking most of the responsibility of the animals, or would they all without much asking be able to take care of them temselves?

i've noticed when you pick one love interest over the other, or show interest in other characters there isnt much of a reaction from the other MCs other than maybe one line so it kind of feels like the choices arent as important. is that being considered? Also there doesnt seem as much in depth relationship building between the kids and their parents the way it was with Cove and cliff, which makes the emotional connection to the parents kind of non existent, making step 1 feel more lifeless compared to how in depth it was right away in the previous game with cove running away because of his parents divorce. is qius strained relationship with his parents going to be explained and expounded upon? these are just questions as food for thought!

Project W: If the lumulles communicate in a form of pheromones/scents, do they have a way to filter/keep from being overwhelmed when there's a major event (such as a heated debate, a major accident or during a moving performance at a theatre)? If a lumulle has something similar to a cold for humans, could it affect how they'd receive the pheromones/scents? Such as having a head cold which could affect one's hearing.

Hello!! I understand if you can't answer some of these questions but: 1. Would Qiu mind if his S/O listened to love songs that reminded them of him, but about different genders/pronouns? For example, Girl In Red songs where the artist sings about girls, or any other song thats about a girl or boy or any other gender. Like if they associate him with a song, not because of the pronouns, but the romantic lyrics. Not sure if this makes sense? 2. I know Qiu's favorite color changes from gold to silver, but will it ever be explained as to why? Will they eventually like gold again or will their favorite color stay silver or change to something else again? 3. I know he doesn't have a preference and that he's basically pan, but if Qiu's S/O was also genderfluid, would that excite him more than if they were dating any other gender? Would it make them happier to know that they have something in common with their S/O? 4. Will we have more cute moments where we get to wear Qiu's jacket again??

Hey there, I dunno if this has been asked before, or if this an appropriate question for this particular Q&A, but it's something I can't help but notice. A lot of times it feels like the orientation of perspectives is inverted in weird ways. This easiest example I can come up with is in the prologue for NF when you're at the fork in the forest and you choose to go left or right it's from the first-person perspective based on what you're looking at in front of you. But later, when you're going back it feels like it's meant to be the first-person perspective still, but the MC is facing a different direction than what's on the screen. It also feels like some of the characters have their lefts and right mixed up here and there. Kinda just wondering if this was someone goofing up the orientations, or if it's intentional and I'm not picturing it correctly. Keep on keeping on!

I have been playing the beta of the demo non-stop to try to find all the content (and I am super blown away with where the game is already!). It's been making me wonder about what specific things inform certain random choices in the game that I have noticed change but have never been sure how it's influenced, if you don't mind going more into the behind the scenes. Particularly in interested in what informs the locker and classrooms arrangements in Step 2 because I was amazed in one of my playthroughs to find out you can be in the same homeroom and locker arrangement as both Qiu and Tam! But I'd also like to know about more about the colour of Qiu's lost pencil and the sticker choices in the bookstore as well if you don't mind!

This one is for the end of the Step two intro , but what are both leads thinking about if you go with just one of them and they're on crush? I believe the mc was wondering if they considered it a date or not.

What would Qiu and Tam's sense of humor be like in step 2, especially with online stuff and how active they are on social media? I'd be curious to hear about Ren too, and the other "our age" characters!! Considering Vine is canon in the our life universe, I'm excited to know. Hey GB, happy holidays to you and the team! 1) The core gameplay concept behind the OL series is somewhat unusual; instead of a range of characters with different personalities and styles that you pick from, we have 1 (or I guess 2 for OLNF) main character who you sort of mould according to your choices and preferences. Where did the idea for that sort of mechanic come from? 2) Are there any other Visual Novels that you would say were a particularly big inspiration for what eventually became OLBA? 3) In a similar vein, are there any visual novels that you think had a big impact on you as a person? Or which you'd just really encourage other people to play?

Do you have any plans for what sort of games you'll be making once you finish OLNF?

Merry Christmas to you and your team! It's around this time I get the urge to play Olba again, and it got me thinking. I know this may had been asked, but replaying got me thinking. I know Sunset Bird is a tourist spot, would Qiu and Tamarack like it if they were there during the summertime? What activities would they like in Sunset Bird?
