Project W Post: April 2025

Welcome to another Project W Wednesday! We're still talking about the unique physical characteristic of lumulle bodies. I'm not kidding when I say I have a lot of stuff worked out for these little guys, haha.

Lumulle Info Part 4:

Lumulles are highly resistant to slash damage, you really shouldn't even try. And piercing attempts usually only make a small chip in the outermost layer before bouncing off. Coming in with a weapon that cuts is not the right choice if you're confronting a lumulle.

Blunt force trauma is the way, if you want to hurt a lumulle. Having any part of its body crushed inward and damaging the layers below the outer facing one is a serious wound that will take a long time and potentially special treatment to recover from. Depending on how large the effected area is, and how many layers were crunched, it could be compared to broken bones in humans or even organ damage.

In the world of Project W, swordplay is still often taught in human towns. Wars aren't fought with swords, but it's a popular hobby and a sign of high breeding among humans. It's common to see a sheath on someone's belt, though the weapon inside wouldn't be a steel blade but basically a wooden stick. That kind type of sword is less dangerous towards other humans and more harmful to lumulles. It's a very deliberate choice.

Lumulles are immune to many substances that are considered poisonous by humans. No plant can damage a lumulle by touching or consuming it. Lumulles also cannot catch germ-based illnesses like the flu. They don't have a blood stream for a virus to get into. Dirt in general can typically be ignored. Lumulles can pick up a leaf from wherever and eat that without washing it. That makes for a stronger lumulle than having everything it eats be completely sanitized.

However, that does not mean lumulles never have to worry about their health. They need to be very cautious of mold. If a lumulle accidentally grows mold on itself, or eats something with mold on it, or simply breaths in mold spores without realizing it, then the lumulle will become ill. Some other fungi that humans are fine with can be a problem for a lumulle by overgrowing its inner cavern. There are also various lumulle specific conditions and disabilities. There might be a separate post about that someday.

And fun fact alert! The most popular pet among lumulles are snakes (and other reptiles). Lumulles love the shiny scales and beautiful patterns snakes have, their quietness, and the fact that snakes also shed like lumulles do. Plus, lumulles are totally immune to venom and snake bites aren’t strong enough to break through their outer layer, so most varieties of snakes are harmless. Only very large, constricting snakes would be a concern. Lumulles don't own anacondas, haha.

For the snakes, they are comfortable with the warm clay bodies of lumulles and the foliage growing on them, as well as the way lumulles don't smell like an animal. Snakes are calmer towards lumulles than humans. Tragically, humans do not allow highly venomous snake pets in their towns despite lumulles' love for them.

Interesting stuff. As usual, lumulle life is not based around how humans would do things. And though lumulles and humans often live in the same town, we can see it's not one hundred percent in harmony.

I wonder if there's such thing as "safe" mold like Blue Cheese to the little rock creatures

Are lumulles sensitive to poisonous mushrooms? Like, ones that couldn't grow inside them or any issues like that, but the kind that are deadly to humans if they ingest them

G
GB Patch · April 24, 2025

No, that kind of poison can't do anything to a lumulle's body!

Nooo, poor dapper Lumulle getting hammered and they can't even take their precious baby snake to town :( life is hard for such a stylish pal!

Interesting stuff! The mention of some fungi being a problem made me wonder if that includes mushrooms, and if so, if them being cooked would make them safe. The issue seems to be more to do with the risk of a hostile takeover of their system, so cooking may fix most things...but put them at a risk if someone purposely undercooked certain meals. Not that lumulles seem like they'd be inclined to cook food when they don't really have to, but for those trying to fit into human society, it's a possible threat. It's the little details that always get me thinking. Haha.

Cooked mushrooms are safe for them! Some lumulles enjoy cooking as a hobby or a special treat. And those who live in human towns generally do cook because that's the norm.

Do they have natural predators or creatures who systematically antagonize them for who-knows-what reasons? I mean other than humans with hots for hammers? :D

G
GB Patch · April 23, 2025

No predatory animal hunts them. They're not edible for meat eaters. A persistent horse or something who wants the greenery on a lumulle as a snack might be a problem, haha. And insects can be an issue with trying to infest them but that rarely becomes a real threat.

No idea of the history between the lumulles and humans in this world, but considering wooden swords are a common sight among the humans, there's a bit of fear, distrust, anger ('I carry a blunt weapon, just in case.') It's like if Earth had Kryptonians living among the humans, and each human carried around a lead lined box holding a shard of Kryptonite that was supplied by Lex Luthor in DC Comics.

I love snakes and reptiles 💚

The drawings are still so cute and that little plink of the knife bouncing for some reasons is adorable XD I do understand why humans wouldn't want highly poisonous snakes in town though, since it's definitely going to affect them more than others XD I don't remember if this was said or not before (because maybe it's spoiler) but is the MC a human or Lumulle? Or is it possible to just chose if you are human, Lumulle etc. When making your character?

GB Patch · April 23, 2025

The venomous snake thing is a bit of a joke, haha. It's tragic for lumulles that they can't keep their possibly lethal pets, but it's not unreasonable to ask for that. You always play as a lumulle in this game!

Nooo! Why would anyone want to hurt a lumulle?! ;∆; <\3

I was about to answer with my opinion but it was too cynical of an answer to a rhetorical question😅
