Saigo Takamuri x Emperor Meji Yaoi
I misspelled Takamori...
Oooh my God, the Samurai were just right wing chuds. A bunch of whiney privileged guys who idolize a past society where they were special and who glorify violence and war as a means to achieve their goals. The establishment is completely fine with allowing them to do whatever they want, including ignoring the law and creating their own private armies, up until they actually threaten the establishment. These guys are basically just proto-fascists.
I just got done with these episodes and I thought you all would appreciate this breakdown of takamori's depictions in modern Japan, along with his dogs. The last one is particularly terrible/hilarious/great. http://ichijoji.blogspot.com/2018/03/a-pointed-story-saigos-dogs-ears.html
Feel like this belongs here. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02ZneRrStjkUyMfkewVMLXYeJXuZnSJZVguUyp8MMS5pLgeosdSNtm1Amfozr68dR1l&id=100045727744362&post_id=100045727744362_pfbid02ZneRrStjkUyMfkewVMLXYeJXuZnSJZVguUyp8MMS5pLgeosdSNtm1Amfozr68dR1l&mibextid=Nif5oz

I thought the VA offers healthcare if you live overseas
Another banger episode
I just imagined the Mitsubishi steam ship to be a giant Mitsubishi Eclipse with four steam paddles for wheels with a bunch of samurai inside.
That's one of the sickest ideas I've ever heard.
Wrapping the story around the assassination attempt of Tsar Nicky Deuce was such a brilliant thing to do - I'd first learned about the attempt (and its consequences) from the Revolutions podcast and I made a soyjack face when I realized that's what you were referencing.
12 pubs in one night? Shit last time I heard out that Bilbo Baggins got his head smashed in.
Also Satsuma Rebellion revived the interest in kendo. If you are a weeb, you can thank Saigo for letting katanas be a thing today.
Gaunt's ghosts, fantastic series. Cuu - what a cunt.
Sure as sure.
If a Dutchman offers to perform kubiki, say noh
I’m trying and failing to think up a slogan for when you’re gooning with NVGs on….
Only since Tom brought up re-watching Last Samurai, which I did myself, it reminded me that Ken Watanabe stars in a Japanese remake of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven set around the Meiji Era. It's really solid. The movie also deals with the treatment of the Ainu people of Hokkaido. Highly recommend if nothing else then imaging a samurai being from the Japanese equivalent of Missouri.
Hakon the Good passed a law in the 900s in Norway that you had to drink something like 4 gallons of alcohol over 3 days in order to prove that you were celebrating Jol or Christmas, he didn't care which. So I guess 12 pubs of Christmas goes way back.
Yay more!
I think you lads would prefer NZ/Aus definition for gooning ie consuming a goon bag aka boxed wine
Oh, Goon of Fortune. That takes me back.
Both of your Dutch accents sound like Jake from QAA’s Mike Flynn, which was also a pale imitation of Sean Connery.
Thank you! I thought it sounded like some actor!
Ooh another episode of Lions Led by Gooning
Just chiming in to say go lions!
