I feel like the duelists did a good job portraying the Napoleonic era as a series of vignettes and it works better because it's not really about that so they can kind of skip from point to point without it being jarring. The retreat from Russia segment in that movie is great because it's just like two days in the process of trying to leave and there are frozen corpses everywhere and you really get the impression that the landscape itself is what is killing these people.
A Ouiabeaux, if you will
How do I make the speed faster?
Sorry, my brain can't get past Francis calling Luffy "Laffy" 6 mins in. Like, he's weirdly close, but noticeably wrong.
I spent half this movie explaining yhe difference between Austria and Australia to my mother.
This sounds like Married With Children but with Napoleon and Josephine
I just couldn’t get over that Joaquin was just doing his Joker character fumbling with power.
Did you “yada yada” Moscow?
How the fuck does someone make a movie about a person who they named an entire historical era after and it's boring? No Mr Scott, please give us another shot of a fucking carriage approaching some mansion. I would totally rather see that than more of the Battle of Borodino.
Right?! Ugh
I know he's Puerto Rican and not French but goddamn the idea of Benecio del Toro as Napoleon rules. Now THAT would have rocked.
Anyone into silent cinema should check out the 1927 film Napoleon. It's 5 and a half hours and covers from his time in artillery school to the invasion of Italy. Make sure to find the version with Carl Davis's score though, not the one by Carmine Coppola
Feels like the movie missed the perfect opportunity to have Napoleon just disappear for a week. Have him just show back up in a phone booth with Billy the kid and become a water slide mogul.
Welkom in Nederland, Joe!
The Great is amazing. So of course Hulu canceled it during the strike.
A French weeb is called a Ouiaboo.
Came here to say that
Jason Alexander as Napoleon lmao
Scott claims there is a 4.5 hour long Director’s Cut - let’s hope that makes it become less of a clip show.
I feel this movie would’ve been better if it was a miniseries. I felt like I was watching clips of a Band of Brothers esque mini-series. That way we could’ve had Joaquin Phoenix play old Napoleon with a younger actor playing young Napoleon.
Or use existing reverse aging makeup and effects
Hey, not spielburg, but Devotion is about Korea, and it is probably one of the best combat aviation movies yet.
This is actually the second entry into Ridley Scott's Bona-Verse. His first movie, The Duelist, was about two real French officers and the series of duels they had while serving in Napoleon's army. It's pretty good.
Joe with a Bible black reference.
Not defending him though
Some of the info in Ambrose’s work was lost in it
Re WWII military records: https://www.archives.gov/personnel-records-center/fire-1973
this movie really seemed like the kind of movie an Englishman would make about the Arch-Frenchman
Hear me out, George Costanza as napoleon in exile.
Fuck yes, the literal minute I heard this movie existed I said "I wonder what Joe Kassabian thinks."
So wait, when did Joe move to Amsterdam? And why? I thought he was in Yerevan.
Recently, I imagine cause invasion risk
my bröther in christ i would have paid for you to have a proper viewing experience! instead of pirating it with a ton of banner ads
Awaiting the "Age of Napoleon Podcast" to do a review haha he unfortunately had high hopes going in, I can't imagine his horror. I decided not to see Godzilla Minus One and don't regret a thing
Godzilla Minus One was cool though.
Oh good this is gonna be a good one🤣
I hadn't got round to it, and I was looking forward to the movie where Joaquin Phoenix plays the soul of the world, but for some reason I decided to listen to this first
Ouiib
Joe knowing about Bible black is not the knowledge I expected to learn about today
Just miss once Zoo Crew, just once
00:54 A Ouib
I had someone describe this movie to me as "someone made an American WWII movie but it's about Napoleon".
