I think the reason the panzer crew members were got is a case of mistaken identity. Their uniform looks pretty similar to the SS at a passing glance and the Soviets didn’t have any uniform snobs to go “um actually” to them. Similar thing happened to panzer crews during the liberation of France by the Free French and Resistance members
Outstanding series. I've been spreading the word as best I can.
All fixtures and aspects of imperialism are cursed, except for the fact that the British are a client state of the US now. That's just funny and you should remind every conservative British person you meet that we hang our junior partners out to dry on a regular basis.
So happy Nate was the co-pilot on this series. I want some Sangria Shining Path merch.
This series has been so good I had to up my sub because I wasn't gonna wait for the to hear the last episode. Love hearing about Nazis suffering
Good series. Nicely covered major themes, including pivotal points and historical landmarks. Fluent narrative. I liked how narrative avoided overspreading and missing the pace.
Giant skyscraper built from human corpses!
This ruled thanks nate joe and tom!
This series is an absolute masterpiece and everything that I’ve been hoping for since the Chechen war(s) series
In the 1930’s arc of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure the Nazi character survives to later die at Stalingrad, picturing him in der kessel lightened the mood for me
Praying Araki will eventually release an OVA for Stroheim where he gets killed by a Kazakh dude duel wielding PPSHs on horseback
Speaking of Thailand, maybe you should check out the whacky chapter of Thai history that is the Manhattan Rebellion Also, great show
Great series guys!
Wonderful series. Always love how well you work in the eccentricities of these battles (like the Soviet Centaurs) with the larger narrative. Now off to re-listen to Pavlov’s house…
i just realized that bumping up my subscription means i now have access to years worth of extra bonus episodes but i also have no idea which bonus episodes those actually are. is there like a spreadsheet i can check? would love to dive into that back catalog. (obv i know how to find the history of armenia series etc i just mean the one-off bonus eps)
There's a Tier filter at the top of the patreon feed. That might help
That was hella riveting. Great job!
A 5.part series on Stalingrad? Joe. I love you. Please impregnate me
This series carried me through an absolute suck of a shift. Great work all around!
Can't help but think of Aimo Koivunen when you mentioned skiing all the way back to Germany.
Don't be Stalin-sad that it's over, be Stalin-glad that it happened
I almost, for a second felt bad for them. And then I thought about my concentration camp/partisan fighter grandpa. And all my family that was murdered. So, no. They didn’t suffer enough.
I just crushed this series on my last work shift. I've been a big fan for a couple years now. I miss some of the older hosts. But the trash future crew is also good. I want to see Roz from well there's your problem so a guest host.
Incredible series Joe!
Incredible series. If you have the opportunity to go to Vietnam, I highly recommend it, I go for work. The people there are great, and most interactions I've had, are positive. Even when it comes to discussing the war. A perspective that was shared with me regarding that, was along the lines of 'well, we were fighting our revolution for liberation, much like you Americans did' also, 'well, we won.' The Vietnamese seem more concerned with hating China than anything. 'We've been fighting them for 5000 years'
buddy of mine is moving to vietnam, ngl i'm jealous as hell
Unbelievable series. I don't generally ever relisten to any podcast or audiobook but I am certain I will need to relisten to this series just to fully get my mind around everything that has been told here.
That was great
I appreciate the depiction of human misery endured during the battle while making it clear the fundamental genocidal nature of the Nazi armies fighting in it. It's a lesson for any modern day would-be modern fascist or hyper-nationalist--your worldview is built on destruction, and inevitably it will destroy you
I think that is fundamentally what appeals to them. Look at the last few neo-nazi mass shooters, hated themselves, hated the world more, and figured carnage was the most satisfying conclusion to their pathetic existences.
If anyone needs a visual reference for how the battle unfolded, Timeghost's WW2 series produced a week-by-week synopsis of Stalingrad. https://youtu.be/Z0zJ0lPq1UU
Amazing work Joe. In my uneducated opinion this is up there with hardcore history's ghosts of the ossfront. Very glad I found out about the donk cast through the bastards episode you did on Pat Tillman. I also read enemy at the gates as a teen because Im a huge nerd like Nate. Also highly recommend Gods Go Begging by Alfredo Vea. One of the most moving Vietnam novels by a veteran I've read.
have full series always been released as a batch to $5 subscribers? i was on the cheapo tier til just now when i saw this. if this is the first full series released as a batch at this tier, then well played Joe.
We try to do it if we manage to get the whole series done ahead of time
Five hours of surprise content? What is this, Hardcore History?
