Maaaan, even if it's interesting, it's always depressing to hear of people who are ostensibly right about a bunch of things (i.e. socialism, being anti-U.S. involvement in Vietnam war) being a bunch of self-destructive crazies.

Okay, you can’t pronounce the city of Jena the way you did and then say “Barthelona”. You gotta either commit to being terrible at pronouncing things or learn how to say j’s as y’s.

I have to say two things: 1. I remember the RAF, and other 70s (and sometimes later) terror groups Baider Meinhoff, PLO, whoever kidnapped Patty Hearst (I was around 10), all the Euroterrorists blowing up airports - they got Rome and Athens a bunch, IIRC - and I was always terrified, even though the odds of my Baptist Republican parents taking us out of the country in the 70s and 80s were...nil. 2. I was listening to an older episode the other night where Joe and Nate, I think, were going on about how old they are. They are young enough to be my kids. Hush, children. HUSH.

I miss the old intro because of the contrast in your voice from youthful optimism to you now

I have always been interested in learning more about the RAF but never did for some reason or another, really looking forward to listening to this at work later :)

On the french not being arsed hugely about denazification, they also kept people on to help oppression in Algeria. Klaus Barbie, leader of the Gestapo in Lyon was let off and consequently committed tortures in the Algerian war. He wasn't trialed properly until the 80s. On them getting POWs to clear mine fields, that's terrible but probably in retaliation for the German army doing that to french civilians. My partner's (long dead )grandpa was forced to do this after his parents were killed in the invasion. He did not refer to Germans by anything other than a slur for the rest of his life.

Oh yeah, about the denazification part: Its f&$#%!? rich from the german speaking media how they are shocked by neo-nazis. I read an article on how "right wing extremists have infiltrated police forces in germany". Bitch, its literally their birthright.

Back in those days, my uncle had issues every time he was near a border. He drove a mercedes, which the gang liked to do, and looked like Baader I believe.

KPD was the West German Communist Party, In Eastern Germany it was the SED. When I was young, you found wanted posters of them everywhere. Fun fact, two of their lawyers had a interesting future. Otto Schily was later minister of interior and is remembered for being a hardcore law and order guy. Horst Mahler joined the NPD and was sentenced multiple times for antisemitism, Holocaust denial, usage of anti constitutional symbols and talking Nazi shit. Btw, Zeil is spoken like "tsail" in English. Speaking "ei" the English way as "ie" makes me always cringe. Because that ends in calling the Leibstandarte AH Liebstandarte AH. Lieb is German for lovely, nice, love. Bild Zeitung would have been one of the fav newspapers of Göbels.

Please Joe, no matter what you do, absolutely do not bring Liam back, it's bad enough suffering through his mouth breathing and unfunny blather on WTYP. Everyone you've had as a cohost has ruled.

I guess they didn't blow themselves up so they're less bad at crimes than the weather underground.

There’s a man who lives on my mail route.. He has a sort of white-boy ponytail. It looks okay. He is also missing an arm and half of his scalp looks like it’s been buzzed with a ‘zero’.. He is the man
