BONUS EPISODE: The Battle of Inkerman
Joe is joined by Francis Horton to discuss the Battle of Inkerman. Taking place during the Crimean War, the Russian Empire launches a frontal assault against a fortified British and French position on top of a hill without any real planning and is defeated in the dumbest way possible.

Hearing this in 2025 is wild. Nate is indeed a dad with big dad energy
There's one thing people get wrong about Florence Nightingale. She's considered the founder of modern nursing, and was critical to founding principles of modern medicine, not so much because of methods, but because of STATISTICS. Nightingale was a great believer in observation of results. When she realised something worked, like hand hygiene and air circulation, she kept numbers and thus was able to change methods by proving they worked. She mightn't have known why washing hands and allowing air to circulate worked, but she could show it did work. I think people forget the statistics thing because it's boring.
I’m reading Figes’ book on the Crimean War right now and it’s very good.
Did you guys skip over my question?
Joe please take a vacation whenever you need it, we can wait a few weeks for episodes our entertainment not worth messing up your mental health lol Also on tbe idea of others doing research and you being the guest, I will say that worked super well for the Mormon episode and that is still one of my personal favorites, and also the Jesse James series so definitely would be into more of those if that is easier.
Dear Joe, I hope you feel better. -from the depths of my deepest, darkest, blackest soul
I really want to know more about this cholera outbreak. I think it would very interesting if Liam, Shocks, and Francis did a local fuckup story and presented it to you. Or bring back Robert Evans and he tells you story.
whenever i hear someone in LLBD mention a place I've been to a feeling of pride overflows me
Yay Francis!
Surprise, a reverse light brigade!
