Just google why the grass is greasy. Not too hard to figure out
I think my favorite thing that I've learned about the battle (other than a bunch of genociding dickheads getting owned) was that there was a sharpshooter clapping Reno/Benteen soldiers after they dug in from 600 yards away with a 50 cal sharps rifle. They think it was probably a fur trapper who married into the tribes because the warriors usually didn't fight like that.
But whatever your education, the British Empire receives very little critical examination if at all. Its as if the map turned pink one day. Then there's no discussion about the awful things we did. The official narrative is that there were isolated bad things that happened, but we were one of the good guys. That the British Empire brought civilisation and the modern world to backwards people and helped the natives etc. British people are very proud of it, despite not knowing how it came to exist. Its as if the Raj just happened to become British by the grace of God.
For the UK education, its basically basic history (Romans, Egyptians), the Victorians. Then its a contest between the Tudors (especially Henry VIII) and WW2 over which one gets the most attention. As for the US, we don't discuss the American revolution. It was all about the American entry into WW1, the entry into WW2 and American history during the Cold War. We were taught about the KKK and MLK (we don't discuss our own racism, but happily talk about yours). A levels (17-18 year old, optional) are varied and it depends on which exam board the School signs up for. State education in the UK has a lot to be desiredPrivate Schools, called Public Schools in the UK, are very different. 7% of the UK goes to them, but they dominate the professions, politics and media. 52% of members of Parliament went to one, with 57% going to Oxford/Cambridge. From my friends who went to one, they are taught the classics (Rome, Greece) a lot, along with the Empire being a good thing.
Former 1st Cav here and no shit the Custer lineage is real. Ran into a full bird Custer in Quatar. Also, the 7th getting wiped a few times is pretty notable. I had Commanche 1/7 as armor support in Baghdad in 2004 and some of those dudes seemed haunted.
ok I have to ask this what was the intro song
A version of the song "Gary Owen" the song started as an Irish bar song and somehow eventually turned into a song that members of the US Cavarly sing and still do to this day. Generally a NY volunteer unit during the US civil war is credited with bringing the song into the US military
It’s VMI and The Citadel. As a grad from The Citadel I can attest to how messed up that institution is
Have to push back here, the Dakotas are totally part of the Midwest. Same ridiculous accent and culture, but just 100% rural. 0% urban/suburban Midwest culture, but Midwest all the same
As the parent of two VMI grads I will say the place is not what they’re making it out to be.
There was an investigation that showed systemic and foundational racism within the school not even 2 years ago.
Grant was also the first American president to try to take over (part of) the Dominican Republic
Oh, Joe, the Air Force Academy is religious because Colorado Springs is chud Christo-Fascist Mecca. All it takes is one insane pilot going to church and suddenly they'll all want to. Thank god they gave Peterson AFB to the goddamn space force
Great. I won't be sleeping any better knowing the keys to Armageddon are in the hands of some USAF Evangelist eager for the Rapture to begin....
finally, "To their white surprise, they lost big-time" is a relevant meme
Two hours! Rookie numbers. Bump them numbers up. Also, as someone who lives in Colorado Springs... It is strange how massive the churches get the closer you get to the USAF Academy. Along with higher housing prices, little racial diversity, and a lot of “Retired X Branch” and anti-Biden or anti-democrat bumper stickers. This is funny because so many of those cars you'll see on base, and it is probably some retired E-9 or O-4/5 who is now like a GS-12...
"Very bloated episode." ::laughs in WTYP::
*giggles in Knowledge Fight*
Great bedtime story after a long day of airtravel
I just checked to see when the new episode would drop. Great timing!
