BONUS EPISODE: The Battle of Cannae
That time the Roman army was so defeated in battle, it created a crush of bodies, mass suicide, and human sacrifice.

Very late comment but I just joined the Legion. I had read elsewhere that Hannibal and one of his brothers were at the center of the line at Cannae rather than the flanks because, the men there wouldn't fight otherwise. Also, it allowed Hannibal to control how quickly the center collapsed allowing for the trap to occur.
just wrote an essay for a class about how livy wrote about trasimene and and cannae so this was very fun to listen to
Ok now I am curious about what Ford did for you to have a vendetta against it.
Pretty sure it’s a Michigan cultural “car factory family” thing. When the factories close they cut off generations of livelihoods
If you want to do more ancient battles, there are some interesting generals from the Warring States period of China to look into (assuming you can find enough credible sources). Bai Qi, Li Mu, Wang Jian, and Lian Po are the four most famous. Bai Qi was particularly brutal-- he commanded multiple battles that supposedly surpassed 100k deaths, including the Battle of Changping which had 400k+ reported dead (though the numbers have likely been inflated over the centuries).
Joe will not get a single goddamn name pronounced even close to correctly. The Red Eyebrows rebellion where IIRC, the one where they basically drafted a kid to be emperor, might be more up LLBD's alley than the big battles.
Check out yi sun sil, did a thermopolye but worked and was wet.
Another quality episode from The Bone Zone
My sleepy ass thought it was the Battle of Carrhae and almost woke up yelling. Cannae is dope af as well too though
In the absence of Surena I will happily take an episode about Hannibal.
ohhh shit bro
These observations about how podcast copresenters are better when unprepared are especially relatable to me. I get comments on mine saying my copresenter should know more about the topic. No he shouldn't! And we get comments about using too many Mexican slang words and asking us to speak neutral Spanish which neither of us can do because we're not an anime dub.
Pogo
You spoil us joe
