During WWII the US Army developed a top secret program to create racist attack dogs on a swamp island off of the coast of Mississippi. This is the story about how Japanese-American soldiers were forced to act as bait for packs of untrained, starving, and abused dogs all because a Swiss psycho, who had no experience training dogs, convinced the US Army that each race smelled differently.

Lol 2 RAR's mascot is a dog that is incredibly racist and keeps getting demoted bc it always spots an asian person in the crowd and will bark non-stop on the parade ground.
In December 1941, the University of Hawai'i ROTC detachment included around 200 Japanese American cadets. When Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, the entire detachment turned out to take up defensive positions around O'ahu. To this date, this was the only time in U.S. history when an ROTC detachment was called to active duty. Obviously, no Japanese ground or airborne troops were involved in the attack on Pearl Harbor, but nobody knew that at the time and rumors of Japanese paratroopers were on everyone's lips. The Japanese American cadets' reward for turning out to defend their island and nation was to be dismissed from the ROTC detachment in February 1942. Many of these dismissed cadets ended up serving as enlisted soldiers in the Army's segregated Japanese units. You can look all this up on the official .mil Army history pages. Oh, wait. No you can't. Not anymore.
Well this was an awkward show to listen to while I groom my show dog... I did get the patreon subscription primarily because I ran out of episodes to listen to while I blow dry my dog 🤣🤣 But come on, we can disagree on what the selection criteria should be when it comes to selective breeding of domestic animals. But its not eugenics. For the same reason the routine neutering of dogs is not the same as if we would routinely neuter adolescent boys.
I think we can agree that selective breeding of domestic animals for better health and what the AKC does are two different things.
On discontinued podcasts: RIP to friend of the show It Came From The Sea.
If horse meat guy not friend, why friend shaped.
Had to pause this one to listen to some Bad Bunny because when was [redacted] again?
Fort McCoy mentioned!!!
19:15 Isn't that just the origin story for the L96A1?
I still haven't listened to the last episode of Knowledge Fight, bc I will cry. I miss them
That story about him almost freezing to death in a cave and cuddling with a stray dog he never saw again is some transcendental shit.
“WOOFWOOF” HOLY SHIT CHARLIE YOU CANT BE SAYING THAT IN 2025!
You know when I first heard of “Dogs for Defense” in a children’s book about a dog handler in the Vietnam war, I thought it was something the author made up. 21 years later I find that it was real.
WHEN'S THE NEXT WARHAMMER EPISODE COMING OUT?! Joe, you can't just give someone a fix and then restrict supply like this!
Yeah I'm missing Knowledge Fight too, I started asking my family their bright spot over dinner and have Dan and Jordan to thank, also how to clap back at my bigot parents
"Grandpa, what'd you do during the war?" "I hid in a swamp and played with dogs" Gonna be honest, this sounds better than iwo jima.... (Edit) i got to where the jokes ended... and now I'm sad
Thanks so much for sharing this story! This isn’t the only time Japanese American soldiers were used to train American (dogs and soldiers) to fight Asian enemies. Similar things happened to Americans of Japanese background during Vietnam. I really appreciate how you so regularly talk about the injustice done to Japanese Americans during WWII. And I’m looking forward to your take on the 100IB/442RCT! Fun fact: senator Dan Inouye was a member of the 100th! He got a MoH for actions that included him having his arm blown of by a grenade and still fighting.
Man, why can't we leave dogs alone? It's bad enough the police use them as narcs. They don't need to be commiting war crimes. The most work they should be doing is helping disabled people and being good boys and girls.
You're in luck! Resto Cazador (well respected horse breeder) has a falabella farm just 2 hours by car from Den Haag. They tend to reach 80 cm height. Also they look ridiculous and lives wayyy too long
Someone else knows what a Falabella is!
Is that new warhammer pod only on Iheartradio or is it on Spotify too?
Cry havoc, Tom.
Well that episode made me genuinely sad. The amount of abuse of people and dogs was too much for me by the end. Normally after an episode of some unhinged, half-baked idea that is often a topic I feel amused by the absolute hurbris of the creator of the project. This one was so incredibly stupid and cruel for all those involved that I almost cried.
Knowledge Fight dying is bitter sweet. Alex Jones finally lost his empire so there is no more content!
Had Dan and Jordan pivoted to some other right wing clown it just wouldn't have been the same. The rest of the lot in the same space as Alex don't have the same nutty panache as Alex. They don't have the same ability to weave bullshit out of thin air. I can't see Tucks Carlson or Candace Owens talk about how they saw tanks of sad human eyes fish people in an underground base somewhere in Texas.
I’m here to say “let slip the dogs of context” is fantastic. Joe’s attempts at psychic damage against Tom specifically are great.
Hitler opens the briefcase and the attack dog goes for his throat, his last words are “ACH VON STAUFFENBARK NEIN!”
I will say hanging out with dogs and drinking and fishing all the time sounds like a pretty sweet gig. Yknow. Minus the everything else.
Spiritually I like to think that swapping that out for cats and birdwatching are basically the same thing for a lower-energy kind of person, again minus the everything else, but I think at that point you've kind of ship-of-Theseus'd yourself into a different dynamic entirely (but there is that underlying vibe of living your best life just chilling)
Do the specially sock stores have Bin Chicken socks?
Well at least the military stopped using dogs for violence after this and everyone learned their lesson 👍
The American version of the tank dog is the tannerite dog
Yo dawg we heard yo like context so we put context in yo context dawg
oh the reminder of Knowledge Fight has me wistful. Guys, Joe, this show is great, you all have such lovely warm voices and this genuinely sparks curiosity about the world and a sense of the futility of war and the quality of the human spirit to endure shit. Kudos
If the US Army wanted to split the dog, it would need to deploy a tactical Eric Gill
Oh for fuck's sake, what does a fiction writer even have to write about at this point. It'd have to be Omegaverse or something for... Oh ffs, that's probably what this would have to be for people to read it at this point How far we've come. NOT LIKE THAT- oh goddamnit
How can dogs be racist? They're colourblind.
And also good boys
