For anyone who thought the name sounded familiar Quintus Tullius Cicero was the younger brother of Marcus Tullius Cicero (the Catilinarian conspiracy defeating guy)

Caesar would be a trex, not because of their strength but because of the little arms

if he actually did kill 1-3 million people as a result of this war, thats 1-3% of the estimated global population at that time

IIRC Crassus had only had a minor Triumph, for dealing with Spartacus, & people thought it was kinda embarrassing for him to have accepted it. Hence his, previously covered, Parthian campaign BC he felt insdequate against Pompey "The Young Butcher" & Julius

G
Gil the Gilded Dragon · September 8, 2025

Ah! The Marian Mules. Really Rome has a debt to Marius' reforming of the army. They laughed at him when he demanded the army carry their own shit, cook their own food... but he'd show them, he'd show them all!

Julius Caesar would have been a tyrannosaurus "I-swear-I-am-not-a" Rex who has been immediately thagomized

Right, so I'll be starting my day with this episode and then playing Eluveitie's Helvetios album for the rest of the day.

As someone who lives in Cleveland, I love the constant hating on Ohio. Keep it's greatness a secret and my cost of living (or whatever you call slowly dying in this state) low!

I'm from cincy and it's only cool part of Ohio.

The prefix wal in English and Germanic languages means foreigner. It’s how we got the surname Walsh. It was given to cambro-Norman colonists in Ireland.

I can’t help but take away from this episode that Rome would have been a much more efficient, effective, and long lasting empire if they’d just built a logistics system based around paying for foodstuffs and shipping it while campaigning rather than stealing, raping, and pillaging.

N
NowhereMan661 · September 8, 2025

The problem is that stealing , raping, and pillaging is what was funding and encouraging further conquest. You conquer a territory, get insanely rich taking it's wealth, which funds your next campaign, and so on and so on. But eventually you run out of other peoples money to loot, and this system becomes unsustainable, leading to the gradual decline from the extreme affluence they were experiencing. All empires work like this, and it's embarrassing that we keep making them and never learn.

I bet infinite amounts of skin-bucks that Bibi and like at least 2/3rds of the Knesset have vacation houses in Kfar-WhatsApp that they let former Wagner guys crash at when they aren’t crashing in a private jet that’s suspiciously full of holes and on fire…

S
Sam Blackman · September 8, 2025

I swear to God one of my absolute fondest childhood memories was having a 2-hour snow delay from elementary school once where I spent it watching an older History Channel mini documentary about the Roman conquest of Gaul that went super into depth about this battle. I fucking wish that channel didn’t become the leaking raw pseudo-intellectual fascism sewage pipeline that it did but I was barely old enough to remember the times before that. I haven’t started the episode yet so I’m gonna flip tf out if someone mentions having a similar experience… lmfao

Speaking of double-seiges, think enough time has passed to do the Battle of Aleppo? That was a battle so fucked the frontline looked like a spiral. A triple-seige actually, if you include the Kurdish neighborhoods.

S
Sam Blackman · September 8, 2025

She triple spiral siege on my ancient and legendary city till I completely level my country, eventually run away to Russia, and get locked in Putin’s R-Kelly basement…
