My brother-in-law sings Werewolves of London at karaoke if people are being too shy. Says that if you can get a room full of people to go Awooo, they're no longer afraid to sing lol
Ha! Tom said schlepping. That’s great.
Fun fact about Phillip the Arab: He was the first Roman emperor to openly have friendly relations with Christians, to the point that the early Christian historian Eusebius speculated that Phillip was secretly a Christian. This is most likely not true, but the fact he even brings this up tells us a lot about Phillip compared to other emperors of the period.
The key to karaoke is to know your audience. Bar with a lot of boomers? Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty. Gen X? Any one hit wonder from the 90's. Millenials? Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift. And yes, I enjoy the weird looks when I (a straight bald dude) go up to the stage and BORN THIS WAY appears on the screens.
So happy to hear Tom say Roy Orbeson. It's my go to karaoke.
Pretty sure "Cniva" is pronounced "Kniva", some etymology sources seem to think it's the gothic cognate of the word "Knife" and the K wouldn't have been silent yet. Also Roman C is a K sound usually.
Some of the most insufferable people I’ve met have been adult Catholic converts. An adult Catholic convert who married into my family was very upset when I pointed out to him that his confirmation name, Sebastian, is the patron saint of queer Catholics. He was not aware of this fact.
To rain on a parade - St Sebastian is not a patron saint of the LGBTQ. He is considered a patron saint of archers (ironic), soldiers, sick people, and some towns amongst other things. The LGBTQ association comes from members of the community adopting him as a symbol, that is an association comparable to being a folk-saint. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folk_saint
Summer of Sieges.
"Getting hacked to death by Goths at the gate" -- it should have been ME!!!
Wait so you’re telling me that the Roman Empire was brought down by the same boring institutional erosion that happens to all large land empires over a long enough timeline, and not by woke DEI emperors?
I'd love to see Joe take on one of the many many stupid battles in ancient China, but I'm worried about how much name pronunciation coaching is needed
I propose drafting in a Chinese historian as a guest. Preferably one who has never listened to the show before.
The best karaoke performance I've ever seen was at an Emo Night and someone did Everywhere I Go by Hollywood Undead, and it was great because that song sucks but the guy had a certain stage presence about him.
That’s a solid choice for dirtbag karaoke.
The damned mentioned !!!
As a GenX Australian there is only one possible karaoke choice. The Angels: AM I EVER GONNA SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN. If you know, you know.
When the empire really went to shit, as it did several times, particularly when the Praetorians got too stabby, there was one sure fire, absolute guaranteed way of getting to be emperor- have the biggest, baddest army. No one argued with the dude who had thousands of well trained, well armed, seasoned soldiers who were personally loyal to HIM.
I think you went to Spencers and not HT. But they both have invader zim stuff and as for its popularity--it has a bunch of recent comics and a netflix film from a few years ago. Theres still a dedicated fandom also lol i see a lot of ocs of those little green fuckers
I always love the commentary about the officer class.
Not karaoke but I earned a little street cred in school as the white kid who could do Big Pun's "dead in the middle of little Italy" bar without a hitch.
US soldier: buys Dodge Charger at 23% interest. Roman soldier: buys literal four-legged equine Charger at 23% interest.
Fukin beat me to it lol, i was gonna go with the mustang myself
What if Cologne was a chariot dealership
So, awkward karaoke faux pas: requesting not only a long song, but a long song that is mostly instrumental. My friend Paolo once did Blue Monday by New Order and just watching the color drain from his face when he realized that it was going to be another minute or two of just the hook in karaoke-MIDI drum machine and he just kind of stood there and nodded his head awkwardly. My go-to karaoke song is "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. And being Filipina, I could not go to any family gathering without someone shoving a mic in my hand and somehow ending up doing a full set of songs by The Carpenters. If I truly wanted to get my Eris, goddess of discord on, I would have asked my Titos who does "My Way" by Sinatra better and to come up and sing it. The ensuing bloodbath would have been legendary.
Don't Stop Believing is a good one. I made the mistake one time of going to karaoke with a bunch of emo indie band guys and it was all heroin addition ballads and breakup songs.
Phil the Arab was my favorite character in that Guy Ritchie movie about that heist.
Goto Karaoke song is "Just a Friend" by Biz Markie. Always a crowd pleaser.
Corpse infrastructure almost saving the day!
Joe is being very polite about the things outside the military base. The cheap furniture store, several tattoo shops, the porn shop, barber shops and the high interest car dealerships.
Don’t forget at least one Indian restaurant and divorce lawyer.
All my buboes gone.
"It is never a good time to go hiking in the swamp with 100,000 of your friends and two Emperors" Where goes my plans if you said that an bad plan
RE: Goth Stuff - my girlfriend likes most of what was mentioned lol
I think Joe got Spencer's and Hot topic mixed up
Yup. I used to manage a Spencers. Got it all the time that we where the gothic store. I'm like we sell the smelly gothic stuff, not the big tittied gothic girl stuff. Dragons Meh, that's what happens when half the clients think childs play is actually called "Chuckie".
First!
Second?
