To answer a question from this episode, yes weird snake guys exist elsewhere, I've lived with three separate people who owned snakes here in Australia - a weird snake guy, weird snake girl, the third guy was a normal animal guy who happened to own snakes. I actually liked the snakes myself, they seem to be a lot of work though. Not sure what it's like in the US, but here weird snake people seem to wear a lot of stainless steel jewellery and smell strongly of old paper.
