Getting some real Siege of Vaan vibes off this...

1:06:21 oh great, the Ottomans had their own Dirlewanger Brigade.
Can confirm, Metal Gear episodes would be marvelous
Budget Gandalf.
I can’t wait for the Metal Gear Solid 2 episode.
Ralph Wiggum bit was hysterical “I’m a Pasha!”
I don’t usually re-listen to episodes in short succession, but I did with this one. Fantastic stuff, guys.
Good discussion at the end. I'm a guide and teacher at two historical sites. One closed 100 years ago, one 25. The tone of the tours and the amount of yuks included varies greatly between the two.
Jack Karlson, of Succulent Chinese Meal fame, died today at 82. Australians are eating Succulent Chinese Meals in his honour.
Is this the LLBD Death note striking again? I was very surprised to just randomly hear that reference today.
fucking... the Logi Squad shows up with trucks full of ammo in Foxhole and utterly destroys the enemy offensive
See Nate's incorrect here because dark hash is filled with impurities what you really want is a slightly yellow "earwax" style hash.
Im not joking i went to the same high school as the Bloodhound Gang, i will let Nate’s comment about them being from WESTERN Pennsylvania slide
I'd love to hear several episodes about Joe's experience playing Metal Gear Solid series. That sounds like some good bonus content.
Also, I'd argue one reason to wait for a period of time before writing or talking about historical events (as a historian) is new sources do become available, like when people donate their grandpa's journal to am archive or documents becoming declassified. They help.us get a better understanding of events that even 20 years out may not be the case.
Spent some time in Kabul in 2010, back then the Bulgarian army had an OP on top of a hill overlooking a road into the airport, called OP Shipka. Thanks, Joe, for teaching me that wasn’t just a random name about 15 years later 😂
I was at that Bloodhound Gang show!
An eagle airdropping a snake is the Raytheon origin story I choose to believe
If I ever create a battle simulator I will definitely put in a trade off system of no shoes but unlimited artillery support in honor of this battle. Also I feel the name of one of the mountains reminds me of the Killer Santa Claus Robot from Futurama. But instead of a Robot is a vodka powered Cossack.
Any indication the French bank interest rates were jacked up at the request of the French government?
Where can one get this new opening theme?
The shovel is to a soldier as the towel to a hitchhiker
Metal Gear Led by Donkeys? Sign me up
As a former Metal Gear Solid fan, I'm all-in on getting Joe to react to the series. I'm still a fan of Metal Gear Rising, because it feels like it effectively managed to be satirical without being up it's own ass, probably because it wasn't written by Hideo Kojima. A lot of the MGS games feel ridiculous, but like they want to mostly be taken seriously. Rising feels like it fully knows what it is and blends the humour and genuine moments in much smoother ways.
Squirty cream is Squirty cream and whipped cream is whipped cream.
Regarding Nate's statement about the Byzantine and Ottoman Imperial politics being something of a sci-fi novel, there's an excellent sci-fi novel called A Memory Called Empire with some interesting inspiration from the Byzantine Empire, the Armenian statelets and the Aztec Empire, can definitely recommend it!
What's your new intro music? It slaps.
Is 'hold that thought" the new "wait, it gets worse"?
It's Joe's secondary catchphrase.
Theme music!
The Ottomans would shoot an entire village but could only carry 250 pounds of food back to the wagon
Grand episode obviously, but I also wanna say that I *adore* the new title music (I'm a sucker for a good bagpipe solo)
It sounds like The Sidhe, but i don’t know for certain. All their stuff is fantastic like this 😃
The timing on this was absolutely perfect. I just started listening to "How we stood at shipka in the clouds" yesterday because I found it in the Kaiserredux OST and got obsessed with it.
Love an almost 2 hour bonus episode 🤌🏼
Paleolithic Claymore sounds like it should be an album by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
Outfuckingstanding
Until next time - kick rocks down mountains, wear your pants backwards, AND DON'T FORGET YOUR SHOVEL.
Fun Fact: the Succulent Chinese Meal guy was thought to be Hungarian Chess player Paul Charles Dozsa, who was known to "dine and dash." However the man being arrested was Jack Karlson, who had been incorrectly identified as a wanted criminal and was being arrested for credit card fraud. He had a criminal past, and was also a bit part actor, and played to the cameras when he saw the press pack. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-11/succulent-chinese-meal-rant-jack-karlson/100798094
One of these days Joe will start off with an announcement that there's a Lions Led By Donkeys tour of Australia and I will be SO HAPPY.
OR AMERICA
