Mighty mighty bushido tones majorly underrated joke
"We are not good." Peak Nate.
So they took practices created by the Chinese Communists, which were developed out of necessity in order to survive in horrible conditions while under constant threat of attack by Nationalists and to promote Socialist comradery, and used them for American Imperialism. That's the most Capitalist Realism thing I've heard all day. Also, the Maoist Submarine. That must be where I come from.
Back again from the HoA series
I'm now determined to make a Home Depot samurai costume.
A good officer? What is this, Lions led by Lions?
Gangsters of Capitalism by Jonathan Katz is an amazing book about Smedley Butler and American empire building in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, China, and the Philippines.
I was at the TF Canberra show
Throwing myriad sizes of circular saw blades like shuriken
Didn’t that Japanese trumpet guy get brained immediately? 😅
Chef’s kiss to the Home Depot Samurai 🤣🤣🤣
Robert Evans did a great show about Smedley; he refused to take part in the Business Plot to stop FDR and turn America fascist.
Crazy that my husband was a crew chief on Chinooks for the majority of our marriage and I never knew they were called the magic school bus. I know the squirrelly guys called them taxis
Also, I appreciate Nate mentioning the land battle of Leyte, even as just an offhand mention. I interviewed a guy with the 11th Airborne when I worked for the war college and even in mid - late 44 the US was unable to supply a fighting force up in the hills and mountains or down in the jungles. Disease and starvation-adjacent illnesses were still a major source of attrition. Famously, one of Rod Serlings friends was killed by a supply drop that fell on his head. Sleep for dinner was the expectation and when you did get your next meal, it might kill you.
I’m catching up listening to the back catalog. I think you’re inaccurate with your information about Rod Serling’s friend. My uncle John was childhood friends with Rod in Hornell, NY. He, Rod and another friend, also named John, all joined the army at the same time. My uncle got into the 511th PIR but Rod didn’t, he was too short. My uncle, or their other friend, was not hit with supplies that were dropped in although someone was. My uncle got shot in the leg during the battle of Leyte, developed gangrene and had it amputated . My mother said Uncle John barely got out of bed for a year after he returned from the Philippines. As far as I know he and Rod didn’t stay close friends, not out of animosity but their lives took different paths.
Still waiting for the Albania live episode. The Albanian Prince saga was what got me into this podcast. The bizarre flex of being the #1 podcast in Albania for a hot minute and pissing off this weirdly anachronistic prince with your jokes about the dick sucking union and butthole ladle-ers.
I would literally travel to Albania if they hosted a live show there
Great episode!
Great episode!
There are anti-helicopter claymores, so, you can actually ambush an aircraft with a mine
Nate crushed it with the Tom Walker’s GTA IV 999% car speed stream. Laughing so hard it hurts
Will drop pants for a screwdriver
While the Navy and Marines were raiding the shit out of South America, the US Army Air Corps was bombing Miners (and Minors) in West Virginia.
A couple of thought. 1. Nate's description of Delta Force guys as being bright was spot on. I know a guy who was in Delta Force who was one of the smartest people I've met. He's also incredible chill.. 2. Currents in the Pacific are no joke. My wife and I went to beach on Maui which is popular for snorkeling and scuba diving. What the guide books didn't say was that the beach drop off was almost immediate and the tidal current was insanely strong. My wife struggled to get out of the water. By the time we got out we were both exhausted. Also, don't turn your back to ocean when you are in Hawaii, you don't know what might hit you from behind.
I first heard about the Makin Raid years ago from the second book in WEB Griffin's The Corps series. It formed the backdrop for Ken McCoy's story.
Hey gang! Please fix ep 4 of Hooligans! Thanks!

There is nothing on this Earth I want more than a Lions Led By Donkeys brand combat screw driver
Yeah, Butler was the Khan of the Philly police department. Also yellow pops up as a synonym for cowardly in the third Back To The Future movie, for a mention more recent than original Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Ah yes, the return of Imperial Japanese bicycle infantry.
Holy fuck I looked up the tom walker gta speed thing I cried from laughing
A Maoist Marine is a terrifying image. It’s like an Eldritch horror that shouldn’t exist.
How did I, an Alaskan with special interests in military history and classic mystery novels, not know that Dashiell Hammett was stationed in the Aleutians?
For a dramatic retelling, play the first level of Call of Duty: World at War featuring: Keifer Sutherland
You get a more “realistic” one in Medal of Honor Pacific Assault
I'm sorry what... Haven't listened yet, but I'm curious about his land reform ideas
