In the India china border region they are fighting with medieval weapons because of treaties so a teutonic knight wouldn't be completely out of place
I doubt anyone’s gonna believe me, but I grew up in north Jersey and we have a some pretty diverse and downright spectacular food options around. To be fair it’s probably a lot of spill over from NYC. For reference, the part of NJ I grew up in had express buses into Manhattan (you can get to port authority in 30-45 minutes give or take traffic) because a lot and I mean A LOT of people commuted into the city for work or school. I did this myself during undergrad. We have a lot of immigrant communities in my county. In particular we have a pretty big Asian immigrant community, big enough that they opened a Mitsuwa Market complex right on the Hudson. They have a decently large selection of imports, festivals occasionally, a super market, and a food court where I tried real fresh-made ramen for the first time. To this day I’ve yet to find another place on the east coast with better ramen than theirs. Specifically their miso ramen; it’s so decadent and delicious and as we speak I’m cursing the fact that I now live about 5 hours away from it. We have tons of other cuisines here, too. Used to go to this hole in the wall run by an Indian couple and their kids. Wonderful people, fucking fantastic food. They did well enough to open a bigger location eventually but that was before COVID, so idk if they’re still open but I hope they are. Then there was the sushi place that opened around the corner from my house, a Korean fried chicken place ten minutes away, a Turkish place, Jamaican, Filipino barbecue, Vietnamese, Halal, Ethiopian, etc etc. All less than 20 minutes away. God I was spoiled. God I miss it.
As a fellow Hoosier, Nate occasionally hitting the other boys with Indiana lore is hilarious. Dreadful state.
tex mex cajuns is just my mom's hometown lol
Nate’s Belle and Sebastian story is the most authentically Indiana bisexual moment that has ever been uttered on a podcast. I feel like I dated his female twin in Crown Point back in 2002.
Bernard Sumner doesn’t deserve this
Nate said “TIC” I was immediately transported back in time 15yrs and got a TBI.
It's Palmetto like the tree
The City of Dallas killed Kennedy man.
No one is going to mention sgt. Parker from WCW? The marine drill Sargent and his tag team partner a motorcycle cop I believe called chip, that might have been the fire fighter though. Also, never forget Rick Steiner cutting a promo to a pre recorded Chucky doll.
Sgt. Gary Pittman was his name.
You're very right about Texas having amazing Vietnamese food. There's a huge diaspora from the Vietnam War in Texas, especially in Houston. There's a neighborhood in west Houston called Little Saigon. You'll find the flag of South Vietnam flown there. There's even a memorial for the Vietnam War.
Tom. As one of those 5 people: well played.
John Cena and Stephanie McMahon were the ones that came up with 'The DR of Thuganomics' as a way for Cena to have an interesting gimmick
There’s no need for Nate to apologize. Just continue being you dude. I love having you as a host. It always adds humor for me when he mentions Indiana because I’m from Indy.
Till this very day. I just can’t believe Marvel named the black father of Miles Morales, Jefferson Davis. Just why, what where they thinking
Any time I hear the word "hardtack" my brain immediately cuts to the clip of Max Miller on Tasting History clack-clacking together two pieces of hardtack because I am terminally online. Also, I also unapologetically enjoyed Belle and Sebastian as an annoying Midwestern hipster who moved to Portland.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. It is also almost always followed by SteveMRE1989 saying “Nice let’s get this onto a tray!”
I listened to a Shadow run campaign where a character disguised as the governor of Texas had boots with the shape of Texas carved on the heels, so wherever he stood was sovereign Texas soil
You think Jefferson Davis said slurs in falsetto when he wore the dress
Extremely pleased to hear Nate is such a ball knower
I think it was Tom who described him as a mentat from Dune but for early 2000s hip hop. Nate just knows things.
The WWE/WCW tangent was top notch
I knew about Sgt. Slaughter but had no idea that when he went heel it was as a Saddam loyalist. WTF
There was a furry whose fursuit was the confederate battle flag. He got banned from the convention
NOOO! I wanted to know who the second-horniest Mishima was!
While megacities in the Chesapeake might be technically larger, the DFWA Metroplex most embodies Municipal Carcinoma.
Former First Lady Rosalyn Carter’s grand uncle moved to Brazil after losing the civil war. He helped establish Americana, the confederado city. He’s buried there now, and you can find pictures of Jimmy Carter online in Americana holding confederate flags at his wife’s uncles grave.
My girlfriend’s friend is from Americana and they have a confederate festival with confederate flags and people dressed in gray.
Calling kid rock the embodiment of down river made me spit my faygo
On public transport in the UK I will say that it generally works so long as you live in the biggest city in your area (that being said, I do live in Tyneside which has a (stil collapsing but operational) metro system
I knew that shooter game existed! I knew it wasn't just a hallucination!
It was called Revolution X. Just FYI! I can't believe that other people remember that game it was nuts.
Donghua Jinlong mentioned
i can promise you that outside of portland it is exactly like the deep south thats why i dont leave
Another big part of the Liechtenstein economy is Hilti tools. They make top tier power tools, like a notch above Milwaukee, Makita, DeWalt, and such. The only times I've seen Hilti tools in person were on professional job sites, or as rentals for specialty power tools for working with concrete demolition, in my personal experience, I'm sure they have more. Hilti gives zero shits about how hard you beat on them, and they come back for more. That being said, they are true professional grade, and are much too expensive for consumers to be able to justify that cost. Edit, apparently they sell them at Home Depot? Did not know that. Also google tells me that they manufacture outside Liechtenstein now, but the only Hilti tools I have held in my hands were all made in that weird microstate that fell through the cracks of history and exists to mostly to hide money. And also make top tier audio cables and power tools.
You guys need to do an episode of the absolute comedy that was the Tucker Carlson interview of Putin
CARLSON: Thank you for your time, Mr. President. Can you explain to the American people why you are so Based and standing up to Woke? PUTIN: Let me tell you about Novgorod in the 800s,
Boca Chica is where Elon Musk fires off his rockets (which end up exploding and raining debris all over the local residents and conservation area. Guess the place is just cursed.
Also re: nate, boca = mouth and chica = young girl/woman...so yeah, creepy name, directly translates to "Little Girl/Young Woman's Mouth," but there's also a lot of context that goes into translations. Often a term can mean something directly but isn't 1:1 translation of actual meaning.
Need to do the Battle of Blakely
