PATREON EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: I try speedrunning for the first time

hey guys! it's been a lovely Friday. I hope you're all looking forward to the weekend (and for those who celebrate mothers day, happy mothers day!)

first off, let's take a look at how the UI is coming along:

we have the bottom bar, bag, and pause buttons implemented AND interactive. woo hoo! I am now working on a menu template so that when you click on things, you actually see different things, like the pause menu, an inventory, and narrative boxes. very important~ 

Working with the GUI layer is a hassle; I may have shot myself in the foot using organic shapes because I'm having to use geometric functions just to tell whether the mouse is hovering over the right button or not! I managed to get it working, but geez, all that calculus melted my brain a little.  I believe Gamemaker is working on adding in a drag-and-drop menu builder soon which would be a lot more intuitive to build with, but for this game its gonna have to be the hard way.

I am going to be on a radio show talking about indie games with pizzapranks, the creator of indiepocalypse. Not really sure when its gonna drop, but know that it's happening. I'm also gonna be spending most of the weekend with my mom! I'll try to get another instagram reel up, but there might not be much in the way of patreon updates.

For the past week, when my brain is too tired to program anymore, I wind down by playing some Flock Around with friends. Speedrunning the game came up in a convo (because a lot of my friends and I love to watch GDQ) and I found out the only ones that existed weren't taking advantage of a couple of strategies I happened to know about. So tonight I downloaded Livesplit and tried to see if I could beat the current world record for one of the categories, and I shaved it down by about 5 minutes! you must understand, I AM NOT A SPEEDRUNNER AT ALL, I HAVE NEVER HAD THE DEXTERITY OR ACUMEN TO EVEN TRY I DID IT AS A FUN THING TO SEND TO MY FRIENDS BUT IT WORKED.

listen I'm not gonna lie...I'm insanely proud of this. I sent this in to speedruns.com and if it makes the leaderboard, I will make a little plaque for myself and hang it on my wall and make everyone look at it. 

People!!! the moral of the story is, do things for fun. Just try!!! you never know what might happen.
