Awkward Dinner Party: venues secured!
Hello everyone! I'm sorry I haven't posted an update recently, only there wasn't too much to show off. Right now, I have been working on two projects, and I'll update you on where we are so far!
a new video about black women in the girly games space
finishing the illustrations for Awkward Dinner Party
Securing venues to run Awkward Dinner Party!
February 15th will be my last day at work. After this, all my free time will be my own (gulp!) but during some of my down time in the "office", since I don't have any drawing implements with me; I am working on a script about black women in the girly games space. Some of you have probably already known about this since I posted about it on Youtube, but I'm making a small showcase video and playlist of cool girlies I happen to know about who have done amazing stuff in the cute games space. The research I've also been doing about the demographics of the industry vs. the wider population of black people in the west is pretty interesting, so I'm hoping to be able to include that as well!
When I get home, I spend as much time as possible working on illustrations of characters for the dinner party game. The idea to simply use random distinct characters rather than strictly historical ones has moved my work along MUCH faster, I'm happy to say! And I actually leveraged my amazing audience (including you guys) to ask for fun character recommendations so I could get a diverse range of faces! (there's one more that you can still contribute to if you haven't already!)
So far, I have 12 illustrations, and I need to make...75 total (╥﹏╥) -- why 75? well, the game must accommodate a maximum of 25 players, and within one play-session, I would like to have everyone play 3 rounds. however, at the end of each round, since character names must be revealed to resolve, I have to bring in a NEW set of characters for each round. That means a lot of illustrations! The good news is I have some fun surprises planned as each round continues, the bad news is, I need to really get my pen moving and crank these out.
But! I'm confident I'll be able to finish with plenty of time.
Finally, on the subject of VENUES: yes, I have secured TWO! The first playtest of the game will be on February 25 at 6:30 PM at Pandemonium books and games, and the second round will be on March 3rd at 7:00PM at Sidequest books and games! STAY TUNED because as soon as these event pages are live (you have to sign up with the game stores themselves) I'll be sending them to you wonderful folks first!
That's all for now, here's another thank-you joke for being an amazing supporter~
Q: Is moose a good styling product for hair?
A: Only if you want to grow antlers!

These portraits are so gorgeous!! I'm so sad that I won't be able to play the game in Boston but I hope it all goes well! Also a black gamedev that I consider makes girly games (otome games) is jelpiparade/owl! She made Belle Automata a couple years ago and it was so good
oh thank you so much for this rec! I'll be sure to add them to the video~
Wow! It’s so exciting (and scary!!) that you’re so close to the finish line on your job. The art is looking great so far, I’m excited to see how it turns out!
I love the textured/almost fingerprint-esque nature of your illustrations, and great character design, Terry! Also, best of luck with your important video of Black female creators/artists/coders, and enjoy your Valentine's Day celebrating a new adventure after work ends on the 15th-- so excited for you! 🥳
That is so cool.
Illustrations look great!! Good luck running your games!
i looove all of your drawings so far 🥹
