Patronichi: an enemy stands at the gates...
hey guys! another excellent productive day on Patronichi -- unfortunately, I have encountered my first coding roadblock, which prevented my from getting as much done today as I hoped. I'll tell you about it and show you everything that was accomplished today after the break -- including the first preview of the Student, Librarian, Witch, and Wizard!
So the first thing I did was polish up the search function; it had some edge cases where it wouldn't work properly, but I think I have it in ship-shape. By the way, today I learned that the little line that's blinking at the end of your text when you are typing something is called a "caret" if it's horizontal (like _ ) and a "cursor" if it's vertical (like | ) which I think is pretty neat! :O :O :O
Okay, now onto this top menu. You might remember this from a couple of posts ago, the assets I created for it looks like this:
As you can see, there are a LOT of buttons! these control your 𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓽𝓵𝓮 𝓯𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓪's color, eyes, and occupation. I probably could have created and controlled them all one-by-one, but I've been trying to figure out a way to do this more efficiently. So a good portion of the day was dedicated to reading the gamemaker documentation and writing test code which isn't working too great yet TT_TT
I'm definitely gonna keep cracking at it tomorrow though, but in the meantime, here's something cool! I did manage to get the top menu to load the information of everyone's individual 𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓽𝓵𝓮 𝓯𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓪, and display them in the window on the left. So now you can see a few different variations of outfits in the student class: the student, the librarian, the witch, and the wizard~
Thanks for reading and supporting everyone! Boy, I hope all you don't get tired of me saying "thank you" profusely at the end of every post. You know what? I'm going to go to Savers tomorrow and look for a joke book, and I'll put like, a little nice dad joke at the end of each post IN ADDITION to my thank you to keep things spicyyyy
Oh but in the meantime, I'll read to you a GREAT game that I found in my book of victorian games, "Games That Time Forgot" -- it's called "Paper Zoo" and I actually REALLY want to run it some time. Everyone gets a sheet of paper and a randomly selected zoo animal given to them. you then get 1 minute to cut the silhouette of that animal out (you can't draw it ahead of time!) then everyone puts their animals together and everyone has to guess what each animal is. Is it just late or is like the idea of a little zoo made of silly paper animals not the most wholesome whimsical thing you can imagine? Okay, I'm going to bed. Talk to y'all tomorrow!

Huh I didn’t know about the cursor/caret thing.. I guess I assumed it was always called a cursor?? 🤷🏻♀️ The art is looking really great!
Paper Zoo sounds so fun! I'll have to remember it for my next game night!
