Whispering Springs
Resting on water's surface in lotus pose, the monk closed his eyes and listened to the world around him. The rejection of gravity and the refusal to sink beneath required great focus, but he had yet to achieve his goal.
The light trickle of the water going over each edge to the pools below tickled his senses, and the commotion of nature and it's inhabitants were each their own wonderful distractions. He spent much of his youth learning not to ignore them, but rather to let them be, as he existed himself among them.
Now, hovering almost mystically above the pond itself, he set out on his next momentous milestone. As the koi swam around him, gently causing ripples, and the woodland creatures watched with passing curiousity, he again tried to clear his mind. If he could do so, and simply exist in this state without sinking, his focus would no longer be required for the task at hand, and would be part of his nature.
As he left his thoughts, senses, and his body behind, he could see himself from above. But then, almost like an anchor pulling him back inside himself, a playful nip from a koi grabbed his toe, and all at once he came crashing into himself once more, and then himself crashing into the water.
"Oh, fie!" he cursed out, dismayed, as he splashed the water lightly with frustration. "What terrible timing you have, young fish!" Even still, tomorrow was another day, and the path to enlightenment does not come without failure.
