MPC One and Key 37 get Gen 2 power, and the wild oscillators in the 3.9 OS update
Hi!
This could have been a relatively short and boring "the other shoe fell" video, as the MPC One and Key 37 got the same new CPU as MPC Live 3 and XL, but then Akai went ahead and added one of the more interesting updates to the platform (which works on Gen 1 MPCs as well) - the ability to use synth engines (including FM, RM and Wavetables) instead of sample layers in Drum and Keygroup tracks.
So... I ended up spending most of my time exploring that...
This is a pretty big deal in my opinion, since each drum pad / keygroup melodic instrument can play 8 different sample (and now synth) layers, effectively turning the MPC into an 8 oscillator/engine synth!
Since all this will run just fine on a second-hand MPC, which can be had these days for $400-$500 - I think this platform is well worth a look.
Enjoy!
