iLoud Sub Review - what it fixes (and what it can't)

This might be the last video for the year, so, while not going out with a bang, might as well go with a subsonic boom...

Long-time viewers of the channel know I prefer synths in my studio to drywall, at the known cost of nasty bass modes here and there. That's why I've steered away from adding a sub so far, until IK Multimedia reached out and said they were coming out with a subwoofer with built-in room correction - iLoud Sub, designed to supplement near field speakers, and also correct the two satellites it's connected to.

I use room correction with my speakers at all times: it's a great way to flatten the curve and reduce unwanted pressure at bass mode frequencies. So, adding as sub with even more bass frequencies, but without correction, is a non-starter as far as I'm concerned.

That said, room correction doesn't solve all mode issues; it still takes resonating frequencies time to decay, though it does alleviate the problem a bit by giving them a lower starting point. More details in the video, and if you haven't done a test sweep of your studio, better late than never!

So that's it for the sub, what's next? To be on the safe side, I'm calling this the last video of the year, but there's one more thing that might make it in time (slim chance though, it's not been sent yet...).

Then for January, there's a chance you won't hear from me for the first two weeks because I'll be working on a few videos for the week before NAMM - I don't enjoy releasing videos close to each other, I'd much rather space them out, but, sometimes companies sync up embargo dates, so there's not much I can do about it, and it takes time to make proper videos. Hopefully it's worth the wait!
