Let's talk Patreon changes!
Hello all you lovely people!
It is a new year and I’ll begin with hoping you all had a safe and fun holiday! We took it easy as we are wont to do and I jotted some ideas for things to attempt in the new year. Some of those being projects and additions to this very Patreon! So as the new year begins let’s chat about where we’re at and where we can hopefully go.
Firstly as with all updates I just want to reiterate that to me this Patreon is a living thing, some stuff will change and we’ll test others. If they work they’ll stick around but if something isn’t landing or really even just feasible then it’ll get put to the side and adjusted or dropped. So what do I have in mind exactly? Well a couple things specifically but first I’d like to chat a little about the actual goals I’m hoping to achieve with these additions and such.
As always the prints and stickers will be the standard. Whether a month is booming and full of posts and projects or sluggish because I’m inundated with other gigs that need my attention these will get done to a quality level we’ve grown accustomed to and hopefully even higher still. As with last year I want to again try and push myself artistically with these and have fun exploring old and new characters and making neat stuff y’all are happy to get in the mail each month.
So let’s take a look at potential changes to the prints. This year I want to try and plan things a little better so I’m never finding myself scrambling needing to speed through some art for the month to make sure the prints are out on time. It’s just not good for me and I actually had some points last year where doing so really jacked up my arm and wrist and I’d rather not go through that again haha. So what I’m hoping to do is to plan out a loose list of subjects for each month in the year that will be the focus of the prints. The further out the more likely it is to change but what this does is allow me to present to you all (I’m aiming for three) thumbnails at the start of the month that we can then choose between via a poll here and get the art going. I’d like to get folks more involved which leads to the second thing I want to do, post more in the discord. Specifically the patron channel. It’s so much easier to have back and forth there and while I know not everyone is in there or wants to use it but for more long form stuff it’s just easier. All main posts and important information will remain here but for the more sort of off topic/side view stuff for the Patreon I’m hoping we can all chat there.
The stickers are what the stickers are, a fun extra unlocked by the amazing support y’all give me. I will hopefully continue to make silly and fun stickers as we move forward. There are some ideas floating around for a potential sticker club tier being added that would be an additional sticker each month or something but I’d need to work out some details and see if folks actually want that.
Now onto tier changes and why. First let me say I will most likely be changing the art and naming for each tier just to make them a bit more clear about what is being offered and such. I am going to be changing the $2 - Warrior tier slightly. All the current benefits will remain but I will be adding a bonus! Once per month I will post the artcard post as normal but if you want to be entered you'll need to comment (this is to abide by Patreons rules so please do. I'll have a note on the posts themselves as well) and be picking someone from this tier to receive that month's mail. So I will need to collect addresses for new sign ups going forward even at this tier and if someone who's already signed up wins I’ll need to get that info as well. Why am I doing this? It’s easy really, I have extras every month in case a card gets lost or damaged in the mail or something else comes up and I don’t have much else to do with them really. I’ll put some pics together of previous months and make those available but I think this just gives a little additional value to this tier and hopefully will drive more folks to check the Patreon out and maybe sign up. Hopefully we can spread the word and try and get a little more growth this year.
Next, I will be looking into adding a new tier. I've chatted with some of you in the discord about this already but wanted to put it out here now. I wanna start a T shirt club! I've done a few of these in the past and they were always a bunch of fun and I thought it could be a really fun addition for folks on the Patreon who may want something a little extra haha. So how it'll work is I will design a new shirt every 3 months. If you're part of the shirt club tier you will be able to help me choose which shirt colors to print which designs are chosen to be made on to etc. Now I don't think there's anyway for Patreon to do this so forgive me if there are some growing pains to start. At this tier each month you'll get the art mail as normal. But every three months you'll get a new t shirt to go with it. If you sign up in between one of the quarters well, I'm not sure how we'll work it out but don't worry, we'll sort it out. Anyways if this doesn't pan out or folks don't seem to into it, no worries, we'll bin it and try something new in the future. But for now I think this is a fun idea that's a little more work for me but nothing I can't manage and will also allow for a bit more fun interaction here too.
Outside of these I don't have any major changes at the moment. There are a few ideas but they are still a bit more nebulas so I won't be committing to those yet. As always my goal with the tiers is to try and add as much value as possible to the dollars y'all spend. It's hard out there and I get it so I don't want to ever have someone feel they aren't getting there hard earned money's worth!
