Draw - A Fast and Fun dueling game!

Alright folks so here it is. This is a tabletop dice game that I've been tinkering with. My goal is to make something simple with a little strategy and a lot of chance lol. I chose the old west setting because the main gameplay focusing around a single D6 die per player made a sort of mental connection between the die and an old 6 shooter/revolver. Thus I had my theme. Below is an excerpt from my doc about the basic gist and how turns sort of play out. I am currently working to get perk card ideas thought up (currently have ~13) as well as some things I'm calling "Event Cards" but that's less important for now. Anyways I thank you all again for the interest in the other stuff I get up to creatively and I really hope I can sort of bring this game to life in some regard as I think simpler, shorter games that can be played over 30-60 minutes are great and something I'd really love to explore with the things I make.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basic premise:

Draw is a game about seeing who is truly the best gun in all the west. With nothing but a small clutch of perk cards in your pouch and the trusty iron on your hip do you have what it takes to be the last one standing?

Basic Game Info:

Draw! is played with 2-6 players. Each player starts with 20 HP, one D6 (revolver) and their wits.

Game elements:

D6 - This is the players “six shooter”

Perk Cards - Players will draw a new perk card at the beginning of each round. Players can hold a maximum of 5 perk cards in their hand.

Player Card - These cards are placed in front of each player and are used to track HP as well as a space to play a perk card (face down)

Starting the game and subsequent Round Breakdown:

To begin the game, shuffle the perk card deck. Players are dealt 3 perk cards to begin the game and initial round.

Initial round: Players roll their D6. Highest roll goes first, turn order moves clockwise from there. If there is a tie on the initial roll, those players roll again until a winner emerges. Player announces who they choose to duel, those two players place their chosen perk card face down on their player card and then roll their D6. Perk cards are then flipped and their effects applied (if the players shot die roll is too low to be applied to their chosen perk, that player has “misfired” and automatically loses the duel, taking full shot damage from the opposing player’s die roll) After this the player who has lost the duel (lower number of “shots”) takes damage in the amount of the final shot number difference. *For example, if Player 1 has a final shot number of 4 and Player 2 a final shot number of 1, Player 2 will take 3 points of damage.

After the duel is complete the player's turn is done and action moves to the next player, in a clockwise order.

Players can only play one perk card per duel. If a player has no perk cards in their hand they cannot draw another card until the next round. Players DO NOT have to play a perk card in each duel. Instead they may opt to just use their D6 roll straight up. The benefits of this may be to keep a specific perk card until a later round or turn. Like keeping a bit of defense for a later duel in the round should you desire.

Subsequent Rounds: Players draw one perk card to start the round and then play begins with the second player in the turn order established during the initial round. *For example, if the initial round was Player A, then B then C then D. Round 2 would proceed as Player B, then C, then D, then back to A. And so on and so forth, rotating with each new round.

Rounds continue until there's only one player left standing. The first player to win two rounds wins the game.

So that's a bit of what I have, you'll have to forgive any wonky spelling and such as this has all been typed on my phone. usually in bed lol. Anyways I'm going to try and get some assets together to mash up a crude playtest online if possible. Not sure where/how but I want to get a way to test it as easy as possible and try and garner some feedback. That's all for now.

Sounds fun. Quick question: if there's only 2 players, will the Round constitute of 2 duels, or just 1 duel? (since they'd be dueling each other) (A vs. B, then B vs. A is 1 round?)

Thanks Alex and that's actually a really good question and something I hadn't considered before. My thought now is that it would be two duels per round. Since new perk cards would be picked up to start each round it seems to me to make more sense to have the clean break of each round after both players have a turn.
