Oh hey, it’s a new thing
Hey y’all so this week I put (Apple)pencil to (iPad)paper and started noodling on an idea I’ve had for a long while now but was never formed enough to get started. So I figured why not let you all know about it and explain a bit as well.
What is Down In Dungeon?
Down In Dungeon is a choose your own adventure style webcomic. I will post a panel and a poll with choices that you all and others in the community can vote in to decide where the story goes next.
Why this format?
I‘ve long wanted to tell smaller stories with weird characters and have a fair amount of each that don’t quite fit in other projects I’ve got so what could I do? I didn’t want to toss them out so I had this idea that would allow me to explore these smaller things within a larger world. Why a choose your own adventure style? Because I love involving y’all and it just seems like such a fun way to do storytelling and there are a couple others I’ve seen that I really enjoy, like Cam Kendel‘a “Choose your Gnome Adventure” which you should all check out!
So what is the premise?
The short of it is that our hero wakes up in a strange place they do not recognize, with no real memory of how they got there, or even who they are really. They find themselves in the world of Dungeon. Essentially the whole of this “world” is one massive dungeon compiled of various regions and biomes that bleed into one another. Along the way we’ll meet all sorts of creatures and characters and hopefully have a lot of fun.
The art?
As you may be able to see, I’m keeping the art pretty simple. I’m doing this for a few reasons. First, because I need to be able to draw the panels within a set amount of time. This is a passion project so I can’t really justify spending full time on it. But with time restraints and other restrictions I think we can find a fun and interesting look. Secondly, I don’t do comics haha. I’ve never really been one for sequential art and it’s not something I have a lot of experience with so I’m gonna baby step my way through it. And lastly, I wanted to keep things B&W to no only keep a consistent mood panel to panel but also because again it’ll save me time and fit with my approach of only drawing what is necessary to move the narrative in each panel.
I still have a fair few things t figure out and I’m sure it’ll be janky and clunky, especially in the outset but Incan find a million and one reasons not to start this thing but instead I’m just going to make it, and try and improve at it with every new entry. So I hope this sounds like something you may want to follow along with. I’ve made an account where I’m going to try out a small test first , maybe a little prologue or something to figure out how I want to format things and such which you can find/follow here.
As for the art in this post specifically, I did a couple of mood/style pieces to try and find the tone I want and can replicate. Also there’s a character art of a wizard who had a spell go wrong and is now a slime creature, I love him. Anyways, if you read all this I thank you. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks everyone.

awwww shucks Teeg, you're the best. Thank you so much. I'm excited to see what you do with this! Also, I've been flip-flopping on wether to continue in Color or B&W with Choose Your Gnome Adventure. Good Luck!
Thanks Cam, and I can only hope to be even a little as entertaining as CyGA. It's such a fun story and you've really pulled the choices and that aspect off so well.
This sounds like a lot of fun!
I love it! I wanted to do a choose your adventure style comic with QR codes posted on the street for people to choose the adventure. I hope you love doing it!
Thanks dude! And QR idea sounds really neat, blending ARGs with comics sounds wild.
