Knight Light thoughts

Hey y'all so this is sort of an extra or maybe even like bonus post. It isn't one of the norm I have scheduled but I made some minor but fun progress on a Knight Light idea that's been in the back of my head almost since the beginning of this whole thing. So if you'll indulge me let me share some thoughts, ideas and some art with you.

So to me Knight Light is truly my hearts passion project. It gives me a space to explore literally all of my favorite things. Characters, story, somber and deliberate narrative, subtle and direct world building, ethereal and spooky vibes, fantasy creatures and monsters and a small, unlikely hero who has been thrust into a battle he doesn't understand but is tasked with winning to save everything.

Our hero, the Knight:

The Knight is afraid, unsure and unaware of what is going on around him. He only knows that he awoke to a dying persons message that the flame must remain burning to bring light back to the world. This post isn't about the Knight.

The world of Knight Light is sprawling but lonely. I have always love the sense of isolation and somberness in souls games as you wander around, tense and wondering what lies around each corner. There is little salvation outside of the small beacons of light and few NPCs you encounter on your quest. This is the type of world Knight Light is. There are friends and foes to meet. Crazy monsters transformed or possessed by the darkness and twisted into something which has a sole purpose, to extinguish your flame and cascade this world in dark. You don't know if there are others like you, given ember to burn and carry forth. But you will meet one who is almost like you, but twisted. A dark reflection through a cracked mirror. The Snuffed flame, The Dark Light (working name, please forgive me haha)

The Dark Light is a character I always knew I would make for the world of KL. The Legend of Zelda series is one of my greatest artistic inspirations and the idea of a Dark Link style antagonist for the Knight was so immediately thought of that I was overwhelmed and unsure of how I would actually tackle it. This week I took my first pass at their design and the response has been so positive. I am so happy to be able to explore these ideas and little bits I see in my head.

This character is so fun conceptually because they are all that the Knight isn't. Quick, ruthless and unforgiving. Driven by the darkness that has wholly consumed them they stand guard on the precipice of a great kiln, awaiting the Knight so that they may be cut down for good.

I won't get into too much more as I have mentioned I have a lot of ideas but am purposely keeping things nebulous until they need to be defined. This grants me more freedom as I slowly build things out and allows me to pivot if needed.
