Monthly Sketchbook: March 2025
Hello lovely people!
So the sketchbook post is arriving a little early as some may notice and that is because I will be out of town next week and rather than have the post be a bit late I figured why not just toss it up now. If I do any other sketches that would fall into this type of post before the month ends well they will just end up in next month's post I suppose haha.
Anyways I wanted to again try and make these posts a little more involved so I will do a bit of a chat through the "pages" and touch on some of the stuff you're seeing. I thought about doing these walkthroughs as videos or audio logs to go alongside the posts but just ran outta time this month. Though that is something to try and shoot for in the future for sure.
Alright then, let's dive in!
Firstly was this batch of sketches I did exploring some ideas about wizards or mages and elements and those sorts of tropes and ideas. I sketched up these elemental orb like bits you see at the top of the page and then did the small thumbnails you see at the bottom. After that I went in an did a bit more detailed sketching for each trying to give them their own feel and flavor.
After that we have a few pages of random noodling as I sort of just let whatever comes to mind out onto the pages. Finding weird shapes or different little bits that may spark something else in my brain. Then transitioning into some merch ideas for shirts/sweaters.
The first main one was an idea I had a while ago and started kind of sketching to find a style I wanted to give it a go with. This was an idea to design a patterns for shirts and stuff that was all the sea creatures from Animal Crossing. No real idea why I just thought it would be a fun thing to do. Similarly this idea of the simplified snake around a detailed dagger design. I will get back to these someday probably so keep your eyes peeled for new merch haha.
After that more exploring shapes and random characters and things until I got to a sketch of the knight from Knight Light with a large hammer type of weapon. I have been exploring (very)early concepts and ideas with a friend about a KL game and we've chatted about alternate weapons to just the normal sword for the knight so I wanted to try and see what something like that could look like.
After that I sketched a couple of X-Men as they were on the brain and I hadn't done any fan art really in a long time. I like how they turned out, really like the Wolverine especially. These were fun and its nice to dip into the subjects I am into time to time when I'm not working on my own stuff.
Past those I started sketching up illustrations for something I have been circling for a very long time. I have long wanted to try and make TTRPG resources and things because I enjoy the games and its always a nice reason to try and have fun with art. So I wrote out a small list of about 5 or so things for this first pack that I named "Dangers on the Road" and my hope is once the art is done I will be able to get the pack up in a way that allows for print and play use as well as digital tabletop uses for like paper minis or digital tokens or something. I think doing these smaller sort of themed groupings for packs keeps it fun and maybe more importantly manageable for me with the other work I have. Down the line I hope to create more and different things maybe too like maps and items and who knows what else.
Lastly, to close this out was some sketching for a Knight Light plush doll. I talked about this a bit on socials last week and have wanted to work something up for ages. If I was more skilled I would have modeled it in 3D or something and maybe figured out how to actually make it look textured and all of that to better sell the concept but alas, I just sketch haha. It would be a dream to one day have something like this in reality and available for folks but for now it'll just live here.
Thanks as always for the incredible support y'all. It hasn't been the easiest time for myself and other artists out there so I truly mean it when I give thanks. I hope to keep making fun art for you all and for folks to enjoy and I hope these things can be even a small respite from the bad stuff in the world right now.
Be good to yourself. Be good to each other.
