February 2025 sketchbook
Hey y'all it is time again for a sketchbook post!
February was a bit hectic with some gigs and getting stuff sorted for the Piece by Piece next fest demo but I did manage to get a bit of sketching and ideation on some other stuff down.
Starting with the first page I was exploring some characters for my Kero No Kenshi/Frog Swordsman project as I was making a piece for the monthly postcard. These unfortunately didn't make it into the final piece but I still plan to get to them at some point. You can see a pig like character who will be running a noodle hut as well as a jolly skeleton who I'm not quite sure how will fit in (if at all) but is down in my notes to explore when I can.
Next up is a page of notes about a dream game idea which is basically horror/spooky animal crossing. I often take notes in my sketchbook files on my ipad as well as doodle just because I try and remove as many barriers as possible when taking things down and exploring concepts. The more hops you need to jump through to get your ideas down the more likely you are to lose something or forget, so yeah, just write down what's on your mind regardless of whether it makes you look like a crazy man or not lol.
After that I moved on to roughing out a little mouse character which I needed as an example for character commissions as I added a page to my website (finally) for commissions to make it easier for the folks who occasionally reach out to me about them. If you're curious you can head to teeketch.art/commission and see the info for yourself.
Moving on from there I did a couple random dungeon heros as I was thinking about Darkest Dungeon and what something like that with my own person style could be. Condensed heroes down into squashable shapes and such. Fun exploration for sure! Mixed in there is a Lightkin (candle folk from Knight Light) character that I was thinking about using as a sort of self insert for that world and such, just kind of noodling around once again.
Laslty is a very rough monster sketch of a Harpy. I often times get this urge to do a bit more horror art and finding a way to approach it that still feels genuine to my own style can be a complex balance. But I have been noodling away on some that I'll try and share in the future as I would love to do a zine or something of like Teeg's Monsters or something which is a collection of classic fantasy creatures drawn by me with little profiles or explainers about them. I dunno, just seems like a really fun project idea for some day when I have a bit of time.
Anyways that is it for this month and let me know if you like this more walkthrough format for the sketchbook posts or not and if so I will try and do them best I can going forward.
I'll be back soon(ish) with the first chat about the monthly postcard and sticker art as soon as I figure out which direction I wanna go with stuff for March. Forward and upward my friends, have a fantastic day!
Be good to yourself. Be good to each other.
