Headcannon Deployed
Welcome, Patrons and visitors, old and new. It's a new day and a new campaign.
This page used to be sort of a personal tip jar used by fans of Simon "Stealth" Thomley's (that's me!) hobby work. Most of the old posts have been pruned to better reflect a new direction. Although Stealth is Headcannon in the legal sense, Headcannon as an idea has grown to include some repeat contributors without whom we and our projects wouldn't be what they are today. There's a lot we want to accomplish together, but we're going to need a little help.
To begin with, back in 2019, the team got together and combined our individual experience to create our current game engine and toolset, "Methyl". There's more to it, but I won't bog down this post with the details. The important thing is Methyl's future - we have big plans for it that aren't possible in a hobby scenario. Not only do we want to make it extremely robust, but we hope to have the capacity to provide it freely to independent developers whether they themselves are into development as a hobby or commercially. We've been able to use Methyl to great effect ourselves, and have been working very hard to get it closer to a user-ready state. It'll soon enter a private user testing phase, and we're looking forward to releasing in-progress versions publicly in the not-too-distant future along with documentation and our own presence for support.
Secondly, and in addition to creating our own games, we want to be available to help others and offer services like cross-platform publishing. We've already taken on three such projects - Rubato, Teabat!, and the game we're currently co-developing, Sondro Gomez. As we grow to become sustainable, we'd also like to offer other services such as direct project funding and advertising. We are, however, a long way off from that at the moment.
The refocusing of this Patreon campaign is a part of our effort to remain an independent developer and publisher who can work full-time to supply tools like Methyl, to offer services to other developers at low- or no up-front cost, and to build a strong community around the idea that art thrives in independence.
With your support, we can do just that.
