Addressing The 🐘 In The Room
This is an important but boring blog post about my opinions of AI and the future of the game industry!
First, I haven't thanked everyone for the RIDICULOUS amount of GLOBAL interest that Family Time has received since Episode 2 came out. It's actually insane, we are a couple ranks away from Call of Duty, surpassing the 99.9th elite percentile for indie games. Like, what...
But anyways, AI. You and I are on the same boat: we have no idea where AI is going to take us. Yes, we get slop, but we also get amazing development tools. But one thing remains the same:
We will keep playing video games.
So personally, I welcome AI mods for Family Time. I can't stop them and I think some are pretty cool. SO, for the Steam release I will be there to help them. I will start with support for Workshop character mods but I will also have support for an AI scripting system (Probably Lua) so that you can just point your Agents to make something cool on the Family Time platform and safely share that mod with everyone else on the Steam Workshop (I hope to be the first one that makes an agentic mod platform like this).
Which brings me to my thoughts on how AI is changing games: game services are now more important than games themselves. Developers must now FACILITATE mods for their games, never shy away from them! Developers must provide an easy and fun modding community platform for mod distribution. Modders want others to play their mods so naturally they will come along and stay.
So I'm not worried about people hamfisting Minecraft into Family Time and ruining my intended way to play because that's EXACTLY what I want. When someone heavily mods your game, they want to live in your world. You own that mindshare. Metaphorically, you created the tree trunk, and they are growing little branches from it. It's your tree.
From the mindshare you get popularity, and AI cannot clone popularity!
So, popularity coupled with services is the new moat for game development, or so I think. But the biggest moat is MYSTERY! Yes! Game developers usually have NO IDEA how the final product is going to look like. One starts with a plan and ends up in a different direction, especially for flexible games like Family Time. And that is something that AI also cannot clone because if you have no idea where you are going, how the hell does the AI know? It's a mystery, a process, and people love looking forward to constant revelations. They want more of the mysteries that you can offer. "What is he going to add next week?"
"But then AI can just clone that result!", one might say. Yea, but without the same effect. A clone has no story, no reputation. It gives you cortisol instead of dopamine.
My Use Of AI
When I started development for Family Time back in March of this year, I hand-wrote 80% of the code. AI models were mediocre at the time for the intense granularity of technical problem-solving I was doing back then (GPT 5.4). But something happened in the following months where AI got so good, that now I write probably 5% of the code (Sol 6.1), but it's still 100% architected by me. I still review ALL the code! So, NO, I'm not banging rocks out here producing slop🗿, I'm using it to cut down on the actual task of typing on my keyboard! I will never vibe code because AI code bloat is a VERY real threat. I am (was) a seasoned engineer that used to make lots of crazy rendering solutions for big companies, I know my wheelhouse!
But code aside, I do 100% of the 3d modeling, animating, texturing, etc. I don't think AI has solved the game asset problem yet which is why it's so easy to spot AI slop games in the wild. So game developers still have a moat of human-handcrafted artisanal 3d asset creation.
On a very positive final note, people will still continue to make games and assets by hand, because it's FUN and there's so much room for mystery during the process. And for me that process has led me to hire the following GROUPS of people for the full release:
A full studio-recording jazz band for the theme song
A proper voice actress for the Wolf Mama (The pup AI voices will stay they are too GOOD!)
Numerous commissioned artists for promotional posters
An official in-game 2D asset artist
A Music Composer for an in-game OST (with vocals!)
PLUSHIES! They will come very soon!
Details soon.
Stay tuned!
Addendum: 97%+ people have never used AI in a professional work environment. So they assume I typed words and then out came the slop on the other side. NOPE. It's a lot more complicated then that! It has been a powerful TOOL for reducing BORING work such as Blender rig pipelines, texture filtering, model prototyping, etc. If you have no idea what that means, that's kind of the point!
SAY NO TO SLOP!

As long as you're able to move on from AI going forward, I don't mind too much.
Thanks for making this as transparent as possible. It's totally understandable on the coding part, just don't ship us malware lmaoo As for the Voice Actress and Artists, I do hope you find a real person as soon as possible Great work on the 3D modelling too!
If AI is going to be used then this is the ideal way of doing it. It’s only supposed to be a tool for smoothing out tedious tasks not a way to replace talented people with mindless drones
Vh
I'm not the greatest or biggest artist, but I believe in what you're doing as a small creator and so if you want cute art for this game let me know!
all fair, I would rather a va for the pups just to support va honestly, and I think its more impactful if I know the sounds are from a human
You're being upfront about it, most dev's aren't. That speaks volumes to me. Long as it stays concept and gets shifted to actual art, you got no issues from me.
Making what you are with this Patreon and still using AI to code is extremely disappointing.
AI tools are nice to have. I am NOT defending the slop out there. There is a BIG difference between using AI to help make something and us it to make the WHOLE thing. Heck Spell Check is an AI tool. I've asked the Google AI to find me bands to check out and have found so pretty good ones that I've enjoyed listening to. It's a tool to be used but NOT used to the make the whole thing.
happy Halloween everyone 👋
bro please make a NSFW version
good idea its be nice to see NSFW mods in the future. i am sure we get it in future.
The moment I started playing this game, half the stress in my body was gone! Best game ever.
Can you make this game for dx10.1 too? I can open this game, but with dx10.1 world doesn't generate. I have to use dxcpl and it is so slow for playing. I've been waiting this game for long time...
I cant, I need DX11 for GPU features.
Personally, I think that modding is just as much a part of game development as a form of art, as developing a game. To me, that means it needs passion, and it needs the work to be put into it. So if I made a game, and people came along, and said "cool beans, but I'm gonna get Copilot to whip me up 6 mods that change it", I wouldn't be honored. I would be insulted. Because that is not modding. If you get AI to make the entire thing from scratch, that is your user telling you "I wish this was different about your work" without putting in any real effort. No passion. No work. Just spitting in your face. I really hope you change your mind about this.
Oh believe me I didn't get AI to make this from scratch, not possible.
I say as long as this game still has a soul and I can see the creatures finger prints before the AIs then I'm happy with the future of this game.
Why did you just hide me? relax, i'm not here to hate you. I said AI is just early access, that's because it doesn't generate accurate arts or understands anything else... Well you see Sgthale? AI has never experienced pain, love, sorrow, or joy, which often leaves its outputs feeling emotionally hollow. AI treats words as tokens and statistical probabilities. It acts as an advanced autocomplete rather than an entity interpreting hidden meanings, subtext, or metaphors. Algorithms do not comprehend the physical, three-dimensional reality of our world. This is why they frequently make anatomical or structural errors, like distorting hands, fingers, or perspective. Models do not create from nothing they analyze, remix, and mathematically blend elements from billions of human-made pieces they were trained on. Research (such as studies highlighted by MIT News) shows that as training models scale, generated images often suffer from attribution decay, making them feel highly repetitive, derivative, and generic. So you don't need to hate or stay away from AI, you can use it whatever you want.
I didn’t hide you. Seems auto moderator didn’t like what you said? I agree with what you said btw.
You know AI is just early access, that's because it doesn't generate accurate arts or understands anything else... well, you see Sgthale? AI creates purely based on user prompts. It does not have an internal drive for self-expression, nor does it possess personal experiences or emotions. Language and image models analyze massive datasets. They piece elements together because those elements frequently appear next to each other in their training data not because of any deeper reflection. When AI delivers a spot-on answer or a beautiful piece of art, it is matching a pattern, not understanding a context. The final interpretation and meaning-making always rely on the human viewer. Without a human audience to perceive it, AI-generated art is just a sterile configuration of pixels. Despite massive progress, AI still struggles with spatial logic. The classic examples are distorted hands, incorrect numbers of fingers, or unnaturally bent limbs. Upon closer inspection, shadows often fall in conflicting directions, and lines frequently blur or merge in illogical ways. This happens because AI doesn't build a 3D model of a character or scene in a physical space. It simply predicts what pixel should go next to another based on the data it was trained on. So you don't need to hate or stay away from AI, you can use it whatever you want.
Brother, anymore most people these days act all "professional" and soulless that my Chat GPT model is more humans than they are. Who cares if you use AI. If it helps you out, helps you make some bread and a dope ahh game then I say go for it. You got a cool game coming up, and some dough in your pockets so it's a win for us and a win for you. Anyone hating on the AI is literally just hating AI cause it makes them feel like they belong somewhere to do so when AI had been in video games since the ATARI technically speaking
all the art, models, and stuff are made by you?! good enough for me!
sgthale, not to ruin your day, but there might be a copy of family time on steam...
5%, disgusting, crazy shit to end this with say no to slop
I think people don't understand most big company games they play use AI much more than projects like this one. Hate slop, not good use of the powerful tool. Much love from Poland my dude
I only take offense to AI making art, i dont understand the hate around AI code, it works just as good as human code if done well and saves a lot of time. Code is very deterministic, and bugfixing takes forever, exactly the type of thing AI was invented for. I would like for the voice lines to be done by a VA maybe, that would be cool,.
hi, you ever fix missing trees on old pcs?
I can’t fix that it’s a hardware issue
Hello, I made a long video on YouTube about this game using an older update, and it has 120k views. Shorts are getting half a million views. I’d like to get the game for free so I can keep making videos about it — I’d be very grateful. YT:Mirlay
I'm happy to see a game dev using AI how it SHOULD be used. Like you said, it's a TOOL, not the solution. I always assumed you had a team of professionals behind your game programming everything, which explained the fast pace you kept when it came to posting videos and updates. I'm glad to hear that you're only using AI to essentially cut out all of the fluff of game dev, allowing you to focus on the meaningful side of things & the fun side of things. Godspeed, Sgthale!! May your Family be plentiful, and your Time manageable...
Love the game, and from what I've seen from you so, far I trust you to be reasonable with AI usage. Regarding the plushies, I hope there will be bundles. Specifically hoping for a "Family" bundle with Wolf Mama and 3 pups..
I personally have no issue in the use of AI in the development, instead i feel this is a great use of AI, again AI is a tool to make job easier, as long it didn't take so much part, it's a good use, like why would i type a same thing, same function for 4 hours if AI can do it in 5 minute? And i also okay with pup voice, i understand IT IS really hard to find such voice, it already become an icon of the game so i don't think "finding a VA for the pup" is a wise choice, there's a lot of stuff can be added rather then that, for example if you ever want to add more npc to interact, you can use real VA on them, anyway i really appreciate how mature and rational you take these AI stuff, Keep the good work!
Please dont change the pups
Will There Be An Official Android or IOS version? Many of the people are asking a lot about it
Official mobile yes
as long as something isnt slop and has "soul" its fine to use ai, ai is a tool like any other.
i know many people have an issue with the AI being implemented. But honestly? if it all comes together to make a better game, im all for it. Ive enjoyed every part of this game, its sucha good way to unwind and relax and just enjoy my digital family. If it makes the mechanics better, im all for it as much i can understand why peeps would be against the whole AI thing.
All I see is that you are using AI as a tool and not as a replacement. Basically, you are doing nothing wrong here. And how could you keep the most important topic so short? Plushes!!!! I need them.
Everyone is using AI for coding, but AI shouldn't be use for art cuz it's look ugly.
can u add a storage for logs and planes in a coming update plz
beating a dead horse at this point but its such a shame to see you hit so close to your mark just to fumble at the finish line. i can understand ai code to SOME degree, but even then there's substantial flaws. A doctor on your skin when your bones made out of paper. No amount of cleaning up and combing over it is gonna make it great when its broken from its very foundation. And not wanting to replace the AI voices for the pups is just a little embarrassing. If they were placeholders its fine, i can live with that, but not wanting to replace them is a genuine misstep on your end and I hope you see your error on that part. You claim that this game was made with real assets, real human talent and no slop, but then stand on that hill as well, it is a little hypocritical. i genuinely hope you reconsider your usage of ai because before i learned about this post i cannot deny my genuine excitement for this game.
watch a bunch of videos of people playing family time and see the reason Sgthale cant simply bring themself to change it.
I believe you should get a voice actress for the pups. You cannot proudly announce there is so much real talent being offered to your game, say "say no to slop", then declare you will keep the AI voices for the pups. That's hypocritical. It would be like opening an art gallery with the claim "there's no AI art in here", only for the first painting everyone see to be AI because you like it. The Pup voices are what drew a number of people to the game, and it will be something players will hear constantly as they play. So saying you will not replace a core, essential element of the game with real voicing is counter to your stance on slop. If I wouldn't watch a show that's been dubbed by AI "voices", I wouldn't want to play a game with them. I'm sure there are a number of talent you could scout, especially since you'll be selling some plushies. And I genuinely believe many could perfectly mimic the current pup "voice" and bring new life to it. If you're willing to hire a pup voice actress, my support for the game will stay, since there is a lovely charm to it. But if the AI voices remain, I'll sadly have to withdraw my interest by removing the game from my wishlist and ending my patreon follow. As unfortunate as it would be, I would just be doing as you said: saying no to slop.
Pup voices are not slop. There was quite a long session to craft them as they are.
Thank you for your honesty; it will prevent confusion later on. Also, I wanted to say that I support keeping the current voices for the pup because I love them. That "papa" in the trailer is what convinced me to support the project.
Unfathomably based. AI is a tool, not a crutch. I think your use of it is respectable. Also, I'm sooo looking forward to pup plush
I'm down for 4.000 pup plushies then
I like how you handle it. AI as a tool and bring humans in the development before the release. That's how it should be done.
I will buy a plushie, of mama and Baby, my heart NEEDS IT...
A rare nuianced take on the topic. I very much appricate it.
The only thing I will say is that there are a few bugs/inconveniences in the game that (to me) feel like something AI would struggle with, i.e. amplified and sporadic terrain generation and minor hang-ups in Mama and the Pups’ pathfinding. That being said, I do think it’s a bit silly that people are jumping to the conclusion of those things being present because of AI since they’re things I especially struggled with in my short stint of game design before coding LLMs existed.
AI or not , the important is to have a good game to play, so AI haters go away.
Bleh, the word 'Slop' sounds so gross! I guess that means that it's working as intended!
"SAY NO TO SLOP!" the best way to end that masterful message
personally I would have just let this elephant rot in the corner. People are not ready for any sort of nuanced discussion of AI. The shills and hype-men are annoying clueless LinkedIn conartists, and the anti AI crowd are completely rabid and drunk on misperceived virtue. You will be condemned as a thief and slop merchant because no one is interested in understanding the process or the tradeoffs. Good luck anyway, you still have my support
well, I didn't have a problem with AI for MyRobot, so I don't think I'll have any here either
I'm still eating this game up, what you have used things for is fine to me. Please keep trucking my dear. I do not support slop, but you seem responsible to me, and I am so looking forwards to your game. Wolf mama forever~
How does the process of architecting the AI agents work?
You speak pure algorithms and plan out every edge case.
I don't know I just here to play that robot game.
Personally never had an issue with AI as long as it is just a tool. It's because of AI we are seeing insane mods for games and even revival of long dead ones. As long as it is used a tool to create and not doing 100% of the work, I am fine with it.
I mean, it's ok as long as you don't use AI for creative purposes. Plus, I think you need to add some mechanics to slow down the birth rate! Not entirely, of course. Mama needs to make those cute lil pork eaters :3 But I think adding some mini-game when you go to sleep could give you a chance to slow down the birth rate, because doubling the kids every single time is... well, it's kinda overwhelming. Also, LOVE THE PETTING MECHANIC! YEEEEEEEEEE!!! >W< Anyways, I am very happy that you are not going to stay stuck with AI on some aspects. I have seen this game be created and slowly grow, so I shall see it inevitably glow! >:3
AI spits all slop but cream sits on top. Your game is the cream of the slop. Keep doing your thing. Your game is awesome! Don't let the anti AI quango's tell you otherwise.
Can u make it that pups become teens and teens become adults and find mates when adults, add a boy gender and make gender differences
were gonna have a wolf mama voice actress?!?!? Amazing
I've spoke a lot in the comments already and I've seen some valid criticisms and some less valid. For voices, I agree! The game is popular enough that within a couple to a few months, it's possible that a Voice actor could step forward for free, or if the game made decent revenue prior to release you could simply hire one (which appeases more people and means more sales). Visuals are man made, so plenty of people are already satisfied. For coding, if you told the creator that they had to stop using AI for code, I doubt they would buckle in and hire people, they probably would just spend more time doing it. Relying on AI to do all the code would make the game very unplayable because ai makes mistakes, it basically requires a human to review either their own mistakes or an any mistakes to make a game anyways. Ai can make the process a little faster by catching a simple spelling error or act as a Google search for a simple copy paste well known code for how to make something work. For those struggling, imagine using a paint bucket tool. You didn't color the picture, you filled the lines. But if the lines aren't closed it messed up spectacularly. You can prevent the paint bucket from over spilling by making sure it has solid lines on the outside. Saying no paint bucket tool means the artist simply would manually color things instead, which proportionally takes more time but it's obviously not impossible if the artist already can make the lines on the edges so the paint bucket didn't ruin everything. But how what? You got a color and need to render the picture still. You cant make the paint bucket fill in and render the whole thing, you gotta either make an outline for the next color and fill it with the bucket, or if you try something harder like gradient filling with smooth transitions, the paint bucket does minimal work. I know generative AI can literally make a full picture but those pictures look bad and blatantly ai. Proportional to that analogy, ai can make an entire game in one go, but it's bad and slop. For AI to not be slop, the creator HAS to do quality control and have more authority than the AI itself. In coding, ai is just a tool the same way a paint bucket tool is. It can mess up, it can speed things up, hit ultimately you gotta know what you want out of it to make anything of value. So I defend the creators use of ai in code. But for visuals, voice acting I am with the sentiment that all of those parts should be man made. Which the visuals are. The voice acting can be replaced by the game being successful enough to afford one, which I think is the case before full release.
the voices were AI??, didnt know that damn, but i still think there is some that need to change, some of the pup voices feel like they went through puberty
My take is I just don't want AI assets like textures or modeling. That's about it. Code? I don't care, it's just numbers and letters and can check homework. It's not taking anyone's job here or costing anyone money. It isn't ruining creativity or looking like ai slop. If someone uses a generic free asset for their game, people aren't upset. I've seen horror games use the exact same house as another person yet it's still a unique game. But yeah, as long as the AI isn't like generative AI assets or modeling, I don't care. So I think just maybe point out that AI is only used to narrow down code because most people actually are against visual generative AI more than plugging code to AI and asking it to review
Big Sarge, I can do translation/localization from English to Russian for you! DM me for details, I have a Bachelor's in Russian and can get help from native speakers for the more nuanced stuff. I can also do Spanish translation as well since I grew up speaking it.
I NEED TO BABY THE PLUSHIES
I am conflicted about this. Thank you for openly disclosing it here for starters. I am glad the art and voices are/ will be handled by humans and I hope that maybe the pups will get their own voice actor since I agree with the statement that it is a slippery slope and it might give excuses to future developers to not hire voice actors. But I try to push back against AI so hearing that the majority of the code is written by AI currently is a little sad to hear. I think I will continue supporting this game but this has left a bit of a negative impact on my impression of the game.
Honestly, I'm mostly against using AI for coding, but only because it's typically used to pump out either slop or unrefined messes by people who refuse to learn code or have plenty of hands to write that code. I'm not sure I could use AI to write my code because it would separate me from understanding how it works, BUT you seem to have a grasp on a workflow here and you're solo coding this whole project AND you're not just letting it do the work and taking all the credit, so you have my respect. From an aspiring dev to another, I'll still support the project. You've been transparent and honest and clearly aren't just some shill trying to make a quick buck, which is really the main thing in this industry pissing me off. You're using tools to facilitate your work, not do it for you and call it a day. It's easy for people to immediately berate a use-case when they're used to the abuse of those tools.
Unfortunately, people will never understand the efforts we programmers make, because humanity is too “backward” mentally when it comes to certain issues and too stupid to use these powerful tools, only to cause disasters and chaos. The problem isn’t AI itself, but humans.
You're gonna make a guide for how to modding? (Sry for My English)
I typically push back against AI because I'm afraid of the risks of bloated slop that has no real human touch to it. And I'm also worried that the creators would have no real understanding of what is actually being shipped out because they had no real hand in it's creation. But it seems like this isn't the case. I will always appreciate devs being forthcoming about their use of AI (usually it's the ones that hide it that I worry about). I won't pretend like I understand what those AI tools look like, but from your explanation, it seems like there isn't much to worry about in that regard. You seem to know what risks to look out for with these tools. I'm also happy to see you're putting effort into getting human-made assets! I've only recently found this game but seeing where it started and how far its come has been really amazing!
Well it is kinda disappointing. I was a bit conflicted because I saw the ai part of your profile, vr ai and such. But I thought it still was hand written. I'm a computer science student and I thought this was a really cool project. The A* algorithm is hard to implement, same with weather and stuff like that. But, I do have to say I'm disheartened by it. 95% of the code being handwritten and then the other 5% being written by ai for like bug patches and stuff like that definitely makes sense. That's how I have always viewed ai tools for use in programming. Knowing this game is now being primarily written by ai has given me the ick. In some fantasy land, I was hoping a majority of the codebase was human. In my opinion, the coding aspect is just as much art as the game as a whole. I may get attacked for this. I've never seen an idea for a game like this before, it's a great concept, don't get me wrong. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I don't want to play something that does that. People are fine to play this, I won't attack you for doing so. Even if an ai tool cuts down a majority of the grunt work, you won't feel the satisfaction you would get if you did everything by hand. I was told that by one of my teachers. It's something I've learned too with my own projects, and maybe someone else agrees with that sentiment. This is my farewell, I'm proud that you disclaimed your usage, you did something most triple-A companies have yet to dol.
ngl its a very cool move. although its ai, it can creates diversity instead of slops. games are made to bring fun to everybody, not for making people argue against each others. love ur game <3 will buy the game as soon as it released on steam
how can I play (sry I don't use Patersonso I'm SO confused )
Very brave, I just hope you don’t turn out to be yet another spineless coward who changes their opinion after backlash in the next few weeks or months
As a software engineer I still don’t like ai and don’t see much difference between slop and “I used it to write all the code, I just review it.” But, that said, I can very much appreciate the transparent exposition on how you use it. As long as the art parts of a game like modeling, textures and voice (I know you’re working on that) is all done by hand/people I think I’m chill.
i do love the pup voices but im fully believe a voice actor who does the barks better could be found. i dont mind generative ai in coding to make things easier just as long as its checked thoroughly . but i believe that generative ai in creative works is a very slippery slope for the world. like this game is very popular. eventually other devs could go "well family time used ai voices for the pups and noone cared" then decide to hire no vas for their game. which would make there be less jobs for voice actors which would make less people want to be voice actors and then there being less voice actors making more devs want to use ai which then leads to even less jobs for voice actors yada yada yada . that is a worst case scenario but it could work like that for any form of art vs generative ai usage. love that game as a whole so far but still really dislike generative ai in my creative works.
i will probably stop supporting if the pup voices are never changed from ai. i assumed they were a placeholder. no hard feelings from me to clarify. just dislike the precedent.
I'm also a software engineer, AI really does cut down a lot of busywork and is an incredibly useful tool. I wish some people weren't so black or white about it. As long as it doesn't affect the creative process of the game I don't see any reason not to use it. It allows people to deliver their vision to their audience more efficiently. Keep up the good work :)
you should have a funny voice for like 1 puppy where there is 0.0001% that one of the puppy has the most deepest voice ever
About the wolf mama's voice, I know just the person for it. her name is "Asaki Valentine" she's an indie vtuber growing in popularity, she's hard working and talented, and she already loves what you're doing with the game, and would love to be a part of it. As for the plushie idea. I would love to buy A Wolf pup plushie, it would be adorable, and I'd be nice way for us to support further development.
honestly based way to use AI as a tool for helping rather than just having it completely take over. Great game from you man, cant wait until it releases on Steam. (also pulshies are w)
being honest and disclosing the fact is the best way to tackle AI slop accusations. Honestly, this game is so fun and cute that as long as the artistic side of it stays handmade, it will be the precious and loving indie game as it always would be.
Well said all of it. Great tools in the right hands for sure right now.
AI use is a crutch that I personally only tolerated you using at the beginning because you were a lone developer with no resources. That is changing, so I expect you to actually give humans a job instead of subscribing to the tech bro lizard guy's "new utopia" plan of "phasing out humans" and "spending the entire economy on data centers, it'll work, trust me bro".
I’m so glad the pup voices are staying, they’re just sooo cute
I understand where people's concerns are regarding AI, but all I can say is that there are ways to use it without making it slop. Just be smart about how your using it. Plus, AI has been around for years guys, we just made it more noticeable, heck how do you think text to speech and some NPC interactions even worked, it's all just programming.
not a big fan of the ai but i understand and i hope your game gets better as its developed :)
Thank you for being transparent about everything. People may agree or disagree with it, but at the end of the day, it's your game and your vision. Also, you've definitely piqued my interest with those plushies—I'll be waiting for global shipping! 👀
So many comments, so I won't say anything, someone probably already said it, but in short, *dont care that you use AI, never did, never will*
From what I remember, most AI mods we see on social media are pass through mods. Where two games are running at the same time. So no, the game isn’t being fully stolen.
It's a tool at the end of the day. Like everything else it can be useful in moderation; A good servant with a bad master, to quote someone. We need to be responsible with it, but nothing will ever beat man's good old creativity and drive. The pup voices definitely are the best. They're so cute
I don't mind the use of AI in coding as long as you review it correctly and you know what's happening, which seems to be the case. Facilitating the modding for the vibe coders seems unnecessary to me, since they could just vibe code the mod without it. I wouldn't be against it either, since I don't care about mods too much. However, I think you could find a good voice actor or two for the pups, too. Maybe let the possibility for voice actresses to send what they can do? If you don't find one better, you can always stay with the AI ones. Don't get me wrong, they're cute but... I can hear they're AI, and that's kind of breaking the immersion a little to me. It's not dramatic and doesn't prevent me from enjoying the game, but yeah, that's how I feel playing the game. Having several voice actresses would also allow you to have more variation among the children. If you ask three of them to record a scared "Ah!" (Like for the thunder), you're guaranteed to have very different results, and if they're good, all will be convincing. And if you have several voices to assign to each children, that could also help with the feeling of having several hundred copies of a single child.
I can't really agree with the pup voices sounding "good", certainly not too good to not use as you seem to be implying. Personally I've always felt like they seemed weird. But hey, it's not my game, I figured it was worth giving my two cents but I'm not going to sit here and try to tell you how to make it.
this is my stance on AI, im ok with AI assistance not AI creation, if the outcome is good and i get enjoyment from the product i dont mind it. how your using it is perfectly acceptable to me
It's insane to me that someone cpuld read this and disagree
Most people will only read a few sentences sadly...and not the ones that count.
I wish to help with voices, I wanna give Floof a voice. I feel in love with the simple but heartfelt idea of the game, so I'm willing to lend my voice to help if not. Getting this game to the finish line and a plushie will do.
Papa!
I'm not reading all that but I support you pookie cant wait for the plushies
In the name of holy democracy and sweet liberty, I want a stuffed puppy
If theres global shiping for plushies im geting one or two no mater what
Regardless of how i feel about AI, using it as a tool is really how it should be, im a fan of what youve made so far and will continue to support your work in doing so! especially since youre open and honest about both your use of AI and support of modding!
I'd rather you just use an actual VA for the pup voices, if you're gonna get the mama voice to a human. They might be "iconic", but it means a LOT more when it comes from a human. I'd also like you to disclose the use of AI voices if you're going that route, the current disclosure on steam does not mention it. I have a lot more I can say about the overall statement about AI, but this isn't the place for it. I'm a bit disappointed with some statements here but most of it is completely understandable to me.
Been a while since I've edited the Steam page, updated!
Feel like a lot of people ignore your logo and the other game you made. Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with using AI since it’s meant to be a tool. The AI slop that’s mainly been seen is the result of over reliance on a tool and also people just using it to make stuff as well. It’s not a substitute for the whole creative process or for a lot of the systems we use in our day to day lives. That being said, you’ve clearly been honest from the start and do use it in the way that it’s intended. The fact that you actually have a lot of experience coding is more important than the fact you use AI. On the games code. Something that AI should be good with considering the fact that it’s just code to begin with. If the entire game down to the models were made with AI, then I’d just say it’s AI slop. Even then it’s not and there’s clearly someone behind this game’s development that cares about their project and if the same level of care that was used in the beginning is still being applied now, then I see no reason to not support it. AI is inevitable but the human soul and hard work is not. That being said, the real question is: will there ever be a plan to dress up the kids and the wolf momma? I literally just wanted an excuse to ask.
Maybe...
Is there any way i can get the developers email? I saw one of those YT short ads and it had clips of family time. I dont know if it was legit or not but it brought me to some weird download the app area. But i was on mobile and the game isnt on mobile, i wanted to bring to his attension
It's a scam. Just report the ad!
I'm geniuenly interested if vocals for the song are getting any inteligable text or they will be just hums/wolf-sounds of mama's VA
Actual vocals with lyrics. Not going to be in English btw.
Congratulations
I’m just here for wolf mommy🤤
Coomer. Children are the core of the game.
Plushies? Give me your entire stock!
I'm fine with use of Ai (otherwise I would not have liked MyRobot), but mostly because it's used as a tool to help instead of it being used as a means to be lazy. Ai art for example is abused to earn money from others art, because it uses others art to generate art that they did not create. Ai in games however should be used as temporary placeholder, while ai features can be an exception. Relying on Ai only to make the whole game is lazy and didn't really put effort to it. (Even if it took you a lot of your time to make it with Ai.) So yeah, moderation with Ai is fine, but don't abuse it.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I love the transparency of how you handle the game, even if there are some things i may personally disagree with. It's your product and you get to decide what to do with it, afterall. I am very excited to hear for the planned expansions to the game as it has honestly been some of the most fun I've had in recent gaming. Keep up the amazing work 🔥
All of the goofballs all of a sudden having second thoughts... your experience as a software engineer has been shining throughout this entire project, would you berate someone for using an impact gun instead of an open end wrench because it's "Not the tool I like"? As long you keep producing quality, we'll be here! Hope to see you go ham in the coming years! Don't get burnt out!
Denle un aplauso a este chad 🗿
PLUSHIES?!?! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS WE WILL PROTECT THE LIL PUPS 🫡🫡
Hey man, whatever makes it easier for you buddy. I love the game so far! God bless.
Creeme que a muchos nos alegra que te vaya bien. La verdad hay muchas personas que quieren tenerlo ya en su biblioteca " yo incluido", solo sigue trabajando y agregando más mecanicas, este juego tiene futuro
Massive shoutout for taking a mature approach to AI, I know many will still have knee jerk negative reactions, but this is one of the best approaches I’ve seen, and as long as you keep an eye out for slop, it’s just an amazing multiplier.
Say no to slop!
I'm cool with it as long as its the minor part of the game. Ai is a tool to be used by us not the opposite. Also I need enough plushie to fill a swimming pool
People now hating on this while they were EATING this game up before they knew this, get over yourselves, my god
Fr. It's still a fun game
Thank you for being honest about your AI usage during the development of the game. I personally feel like you are using AI a bit too much, but the result is great and I won't judge a single-dev too much when it comes to AI. Since you do have the skills necessary to create the game without AI, I hope that you might utilize AI less than you are currently, but that is entirely up to you. I like your game, and I hope you have a good day!
You're never going to see slop in Family Time!
Im conflicted on this but untimely as long as a majority of the game stays hand made it seems fine Ai is a tool much like a hammer a hammer can be used to build homes or bash someone's brain in its up to the one holding the hammer to use it correctly but also there is the all to commen fear that when using a hammer all issues look like nails I worry that if ai fully takes over the project then it will lose the value it had in the start As for the mods you really can't control the ai mods the ai voice im..iffy on in all honesty but the fact youve hired a team it appears and the assets and majority of the game stay human then it shoud be fine
That wont ever happen. There's too much agency required for the game. I would even say it's impossible for AI to EVER take over this project.
...and no longer interested in this. Damn.
You will not be missed, bye!
One way to stop ai code bloat is to not use ai
The benefits of cutting down overall workload outweigh a little extra vigilance.
Yessss plushies
I NEED pup plushies 🙏
:0. 3... can i get hired-
I still have mixed thoughts on the use of AI in general, but especially on the coding end i understand that it will basically become a necessity, especially for a solo dev. That being said being completely transparent about its use is very welcomed when a lot of people feel shamed about it and end up being vague about its use. Either way im still looking forward to the full release more than about anything i can remember in recent times. Thanks for your hard work
Wait. About the pup voice/voices. Could you potentially find the VA that the AI has used/ripped off and hire them? This is a genuine question.
There is no VA whose voice I specifically picked out and stole. Not exactly how it works. The pup voices were originally prompted as prototype sounds for the game many months ago. It was a lot of back and forth until I got the voice just right!
Never gonna agree on this, very sad to see
That's ok!
Oh fuck you and fuck what you stand for here.
Bro, its not that deep. Like said: "Ai is a tool much like a hammer. A hammer can be used to build homes or bash someone's brain in, its up to the one holding the hammer to use it correctly."
Steam is currently debating shutting workshop down temporarily because people are getting malware on their computers. So just a head up in case they do. As of right now my sources are hearsay and trust me bro but with steams track record of customer support this is not too far fetched.
As they should! Which is why I am doing a LUA scripting system so that I can safely sandbox code in mods!
Sign me up for a plushie 😂
I would sell my soul for one
