Depending on the rap song that was playing in the beginning at Karen’s party, the Karen backstory must’ve taken place around 2004/2005. That song came out around that time, and if that song was suppose to indicate what year the setting was then yeah I’m sure it was around 04/05.

The last shot of Karen over Matt with the cross above is a super iconic image from Frank Millers Born Again comic, only it is reversed in the show. In the comics, its Karen who is in Matts arms.
