Haha yeah I caught that too. It's not that big of a deal because of how obvious it is (I remember thinking that he was going to be bad as a kid). But Shane and the others should try not to spoil or give hints.
The force is also like a muscle. You can't use it all the time. So maybe they were all just a bit exhausted? I don't know. It's a common question. "Why don't they just use the force for X?" In the end I don't think you should think too much about it.
