Mal genuinely not knowing Inara's true feelings was the most believable and also most painful part of this arc... Nandi knew it after less than a day and he was still dumbfounded. Later, Inara's response to leave, rather than spill the beans made absolute sense on her part, with how obvious she was and how oblivious he was, she figured there was no way he could ever really love her because of his view on licensed sex workers. So she stopped trying... a somber act, but a step towards something attainable.

Great reaction. I think part of why Mal sleeping with Nandi hit Inara so hard is that for her, sex is just business, but she KNOWS that it means something to Mal, that he has "puritanical" views about sex. It might've been different if Mal hired Nandi for the night, but he didn't. They had a mutual connection and slept together. It meant something to Mal and she knows it.

That look by Calvin to us when she says she's leaving and he KNOWS Eric is expecting her to kiss him was EVERYTHING!!!
