Come on guys, the Saxons are the English - Egbert, Ethelwulf, Athelstan Etc are all Saxons. Wessex means "West Saxon".
The angles and the saxons by this point have merged into one people, shared culture etc.
Poor ol'Paris...not sure who to root for..lol
The emperor's actor is a French Canadian who still have the old Frankish accent of this time, however, the princess have a strong modern French latin accent.
I always felt Ragnar went to Paris A) because it was the dream he and Athelstan's shared and B) I think wants to earn something for himself.
Yep, Eastern Emperor. At this time, Francia/Frankia (I've seen both) is split into three empires. West Francia, Middle Francia and East Francia, and later, Middle Francia was divided between West and East Francia. The East eventually turned into the Holy Roman Empire, while the West became France.
FLAGELLATION!!!
the saxons are all of the english pretty much, they are a mix of saxons and angles mainly.
Jutes and Frisians also i think at the time even some African descendants from the 10/11th century due to romans.
At this point the people living in England were Saxon's (among others). Wessex means the West Saxons.
