there is a specialization of air but it'll be demonstrated later on in the series. You'll never see it coming

D
Devil's Advocate · July 11, 2017

Well now they will...

J
Jordan · July 8, 2017

BTW guys, just to help you out: Tenzin is 52.

R
Ryan Kosier · July 8, 2017

"there's no specialization for air" yeah, well, the Air Nomads were wiped out 170 years ago, it's not like there's been a lot of major developments to airbending lately. Let's not forget metal bending was INVENTED by Toph, and blood bending was INVENTED by Hama. We don't know about lightning, but it makes sense if that's a relatively new thing too. And airbending being 170 years behind every other bending form at this point, it makes sense that they have no specialized style.

M
Myrrh · July 8, 2017

It makes sense when you put it that way, but... spoilers ...

M
Mike C · July 8, 2017

Just some info. the character Mako is named after the voice actor of the same name (Iroh's) from the last series who past away during season 2. The way they pronounce it in korra is how it is actually pronounced.

G
Greg Alan · July 7, 2017

Season 1 is awesome, but I can't wait until they get to season 3 and zaheer is introduced

R
Roy Lohman · July 8, 2017

They could just skip the atrocious season 2, it'd be a favor for all of us.

L
Liam4271 · July 7, 2017

Oh, and regarding the airbender tatoos: you receive them when you are deemed a master. The final criteria to reaching master status is the ability to create an entirely new technique. For Aang it was the air scooter.

L
Liam4271 · July 7, 2017

Good point about Aang being the single point of the new airbender lineage, and how it could be influenced by his avatar training. Points to consider though: Aang never really strayed from his airbender mentality (shown in the dilemma of AATLAB's finale), even though he could vary his style to pull off earthbending etc. And we have already seen that Tenzin's temple is still incorporating original nomad teachings, concepts, and mentalities (Korra's gate training), so they still have access to a wider (second-hand) knowledge beyond just Aang.

Second.

N
Noah Hoorn · July 7, 2017

Tattoos are for master airbender. For everything else all I'll say is season 3.

W
Walt · July 7, 2017

I knew someone was going to talk while the general talk enough to miss his name. Erik caught but by the time the rest heard it it took away the reaction that could have happen lol

R
Rich Cassou · July 7, 2017

Awesome guys! Only a couple episodes left this season! I can't wait =)

M
Marquez Mayes · July 7, 2017

Eric: air has no special specifications. Me: Just wait til season 3 XD

M
Matthew Rudolph · July 7, 2017

Season 2 has shows something unique as well right with a airbender and that goes into season 3 right? I don't want to spoil so I'm trying to be cryptic.

C
Cultured Degenerate · July 7, 2017

As for the mud bending thing, Katara and Toph both manipulated mud at one point or another in The Last Airbender, so it's safe to assume both water benders and earth benders can.

J
JojoInSpace · July 7, 2017

I was scared that you guys would miss the name by the end, glad Eric caught it. :D Such a nice connection to the old series, even if the voice sometimes distracted me a bit first time I watched it. Some really interesting discussion this time too, as always. We'll see how much of your questions gets answered, but even if they don't, they spark some very good conversations. This episode does have high points of humor (the airbending kids, though not all of the jokes hits home in my opinion), but that moment at the end with Lin is just so sad and so well done. And the looming sense of dread all-throughout as the Equalists are attacking, but with that spark of hope at the end with General Iroh on his way. And we got to see Tenzin kicking some ass, which was awesome. I really love this episode. That being said, the upcoming one might be my favorite. But it's a week left until then! Can't wait.

You guys are asking a bunch of cool questions that get answers later on. Also you can’t learn combustion bending. You need to born with an overflow of spiritual energy in the chakra at the crown of the head.

S
Soisen the Guardian · July 7, 2017

Hey guys when it comes to the different bending you have. Waterbending, Waterbending, icebending, steam manipuation, plant manipulation and boodbending for the Water Tribe. Firebending, Smoke/steam manipuation temperture manipulation, lightning generation and redirection for the Fire Nation. Earthbending, metalbending, and sandbending for the Earth Kingdom. Air just have airbending. Who knows though they may have others in the future but these are the different ones thus far.

V
Vasiliu Vlad · July 7, 2017

Aang was the youngest airbending master ever cause he invented the air scooter.

V
Voreni · July 7, 2017

One thing to keep in mind in regards to Yakone and Tarlokk; There are a lot of similarities to Ozai and Azula and Zuko. Where Zuko had to train harder to get as powerful as he did, Azula was essentially born with amazing potential. There is a reason why she was the only Firebender to have blue flames. Whether it's genetics or something else I don't know but there have been cases of people gifted with just stronger affinity for bending in general. I think the point Sokka was trying to make during the trial was that Yakone was one of these gifted individuals, who later passed it on to his son.

Well explained 👍🏽👍🏽

You have to be a master of air bender to get tattoos, don't worry it'll go in to it more on Legend of Korra

Dan cosseted you bitch stfu ok

h
hays collins · July 7, 2017

Oh my god quite guessing something 2 seasons away. I won't specify but everyone you know what I'm talking about

A
Alex Sprague · July 7, 2017

Also all the air nomads were benders because of the emphasis of spiritual training and philosophy, and yes Aang was considered a master once he gained his tattoos.

C
Callie · July 7, 2017

Y'all should really read the comics they explain a bunch of the world building questions you've been asking and explain a few things abt lok as well! (For example it explains how the cabbage guy became the owner of an engineering company)

A
Alex Azarm · July 7, 2017

General Iroh is voiced by Dante Basco, who was Zuko's voice actor, and is Zuko's grandson

R
Raven McShan · July 7, 2017

I cried when Lin got her bending taken then screamed when Iroh showed up. My parents thought teenage me was crazy.

J
Jjop017 · July 7, 2017

I think to prevent everyone from having game breaking powers that bending forms like blood and combustion were just made to be very advance forms that only the very gifted or talented benders can achieve. While we see more lightning benders and metal benders I don't think they are easy to learn or that every fire bender and earth bender can do.

J
Jasmine King · July 7, 2017

They really are asking some great questions. It makes me excited for the future!

B
Bryce Johnson · July 7, 2017

hahaha lul them talking about the advancements of the bending styles. ohhh just you wait crew.

G
Gevin Tipsword · July 7, 2017

it kills me everytime when they play that music when amon takes the bending away >.

S
Samuel · July 7, 2017

If you read the comics you'll understand how the nomads came about. They don't actually bend air. They just follow the teaching and philosophies.

b
blackfox413 · July 7, 2017

I'd say the reason blood bending is so taboo is because it's probably the most violating of the techniques. Think about it, you gain complete domination of a person's body and strip them of free will. I can completely see why people would forbid it.

J
Jjop017 · July 7, 2017

Yes, it is a very easy ability to abuse and can likely cause lasting damage. The way Yakone used it forced people's limbs to twist and bend in unnatural ways. Unlike the other bending arts which can be used in other ways blood bending can only be used to manipulate living beings against their will. It makes sense to outlaw it and prevent people from learning it.

J
Jonathan Tavira-Alcaraz · July 7, 2017

Airbenders only get the arrow tattoo when they become masters.
