Stronger Story, No Mercy
We are coming in hot on the release date, and honestly, this has been a really solid cycle. Something Unlimited has been a blast to work on, and it has been a nice change of pace after the nonstop push of Project Evo. This update let the team slow down just enough to focus on quality without losing momentum.
Now, the not so fun news first. This update is going out as a standalone. Not ideal, but necessary. Which leads right into the full Ren’Py transition.
Moving to a full Ren'py version is big. Internally, the goal has always been simple, match the quality of SU Unity. Every single person on the team is aiming for that. But we also need to be realistic. There has to be a middle ground where we can move fast and still give you something worth playing. Nobody wants to wait forever while we chase perfection.
So the first mission in the new year is this, get the Ren’Py rebuild into your hands as fast as possible. That may mean some short term tradeoffs, possibly on image quality. Nothing is locked in yet, but we will make those calls very early in the new year. We know you want to play, not just hear about plans.
Back to SU.
Art is basically done. The heavy lifting now is on writing. SR7 is deep in it, and this cycle is a little different than usual. Instead of just pushing forward, there has been a lot of rewriting and tightening the story. Making sure the narrative actually hits the way it should.
That puts us firmly in polish mode right now. And polish mode is where we get some of the best narratives in SU. Cleaner story beats, stronger scenes, and content that lands harder. Less filler, more payoff. Diana would approve.

I still don't understand, are you going to do a complete remake of the game in Ren'Py? With all the characters and events from the base game and the events from the Gotham game? Including the cheats? And the Sandbox mode too? Like, where we can choose where to go, etc.? Are you going to combine the Gotham events with the events from the SU base game?
They're doing a complete Ren'py remake of the game which will have all of the up-to-date content from the Gotham and Themyscira events in it. They normally used to have the updated content in the Unity version but it became too buggy and since they were releasing the events as standalone games already, they've been releasing the most recent content in the standalones and then putting it into Unity later. But now Unity will be abandoned for the Ren'py remake instead

what's the difference between renpy and unity?
The version of Unity they use is outdated, has constant problems, and demands more resources from players' computers. Ren'py, on the other hand, is better suited to the gameplay style of SU (semi-visual novel). Games made in Ren'py are easier to translate and work with.

On stand alones: I wouldn't mind if they had the smooth scrolling images as the full Unity. Can the camera do smooth scrolling or offer a toggle on/off smooth scroll?
To be honest I miss the unity version, but see you how much you work in this version it would waste and a deception not enjoying and see the fruits of your labor!
