Thought Thief | Creature Statblock

Today's 5E stat block features the Thought Thief. A scary creature in its own right, I think the Thought Thief will add an interesting dynamic for players thanks to Consuming Memories!

When individuals who have devoted their lives to defending a place of worship die and feel betrayed by their devotion, they sometimes return as a Thought Thief. Unable to pass into the afterlife, a Thought Thief scours the mortal plane, stealing memories from others, hoping that forgetting their previous life will let them move on in peace. Unfortunately, they often forget to pass on.

Consuming Memories

When a Thought Thief successfully consumes the memory of other creatures, it forgets a portion of its past. Depending upon the memory consumed (DM’s Choice), a Thought Thief will slowly believe they are someone else and attempt to contact friends or family members with whom they have no relation.
