First Claw Vruldon Rumbleheart | NPC Statblock

Looking for an NPC whose search for the truth could prevent a war or ignite one? First Claw Vruldon Rumbleheart leads the Starmane, a small Ursus clan living deep in the Highlands north of Greendale and Grenchester’s Rise. Once entrusted with protecting one of the primal deities, Ødger the Storm Claw’s dream pearls, the Starmane were declared Wandered Claw after their pearl was corrupted during Ødger’s hibernation in 615 EoIF. Fifteen years later, Vruldon still accepts the shame required by Ursus tradition, even as he remains convinced that his people were sabotaged.

The Ursus are powerful bearfolk bound by an ancient duty to protect fragments of Ødger’s dreams. When Ødger enters one of his great hibernations, pieces of his consciousness coalesce into dream pearls within the plane of dreams. Ursus elders and shamans then enter deep trances, becoming Dreamguardians who defend those fragments against nightmares and other forces that seek to corrupt them.

Ødger the Storm Claw is the eldest of Erenel’s primal deities, associated with storms, courage, competition, struggle, and strength proven in action. Ursus clans spend generations following ancient migration routes between remote sanctuaries where their Dreamguardians sleep. Failure carries a terrible cost. If a clan loses or corrupts its dream pearl, it becomes known as a Wandered Claw and must abandon its sanctuary, wandering until Ødger’s next hibernation offers another chance to reclaim its honor.
