A few remaining fixes, and OpenXR
I believe, unless something major explodes, 0.3 will be ready by the end of the week. It seems like there are still a few bugs, unfortunately, but all the major stuff should be fixed, and the remaining stuff can wait until 0.3.1. Thank you for all the reports, and for submitting those crash reports when you see them: this new system really helps to track down the crashes.
For this update, I mostly focused on fixing all sorts of bugs and crashes I could find. FPS shouldn’t plummet because of crashes with the new smoke, fuPBR finally looks sane, remote cars shouldn’t jitter anymore, texture loading should be a lot more reliable, windscreen banners should look better in the rain and in VR, memory consumption has been reduced, and more.
There is also a new VR mode, OpenXR (it’s been there for a bit, but it wasn’t that functional before). It’s still experimental, so don’t expect too much, but I found my PC performing better with it. Plus, it has some extra options, such as drawing the HUD in an extra layer, doing passthrough, or eye and hand tracking. Of course, actual functionality depends on the headset and the selected runtime (also, hands tracking is still at the proof-of-concept stage, so I wouldn’t advise to turn it on; to actually be useful, I first need to find a good way to pause it when the hands are grabbing the steering wheel, for example).
Here are all the changes, and here is the new build. Thank you for all the support, the reports, the comments and the messages! Please feel free to DM me if you have any issues, questions or suggestions (I apologize in advance for any delays in replying; if it seems like I’m not replying, please send another message, some notifications do get lost sometimes).
