Poll: Do we rush or not?

Let's talk game release

The game was supposed to go into Early Access in November, but after the whole payment processor controversy, Steam has now disabled Early Access for adult games. :(

Sucks, but what can you do. It did, however, give me some time to think and reflect on the game—and the question about release came up. Or rather...

"Do we release or keep going?"

On one hand, we’re thinking of releasing the game and wrapping things up. We’ve been at it for a few years now, and we’re also excited to try something new.

On the other hand, we feel like there’s still a lot of potential for CMW. Adding things like a camping event, a D&D roleplaying event, a yoga event, introducing more campers, more monster girls, more secrets, etc. etc.

Basically I ended up with these three possibilities:

Release and move on

We could always… just release. Finish up the finale, polish the gameplay elements, and send it off to Steam. The downside would be all the wasted potential of the extra stuff we could’ve added.

Continue working on Camp Mourning Wood

We could also just keep working on CMW. Keep her steady as she goes until she’s fully ready to launch. I’ll definitely want to discuss this with my team though, because I don’t want anyone risking burnout.

Do a hybrid approach

And finally… a hybrid approach, where we continue working on CMW and the next game in tandem. I think this would be my preferred method. It has the benefit of keeping the work diverse and makes the transition between CMW’s release and the next game much smoother. However, it comes with the downside that content patches will be a bit more sparse.

What do you think?

So to wrap up, let me know what you think. I've been mulling this over in my head for so long now, it would probably be better to just ask you all directly.

Thanks again for supporting the journey. I can’t wait to hear what you think in the poll!

For what it's worth he's my two cents worth of input. CMW is one of the better adult games I've run across and I've seen quite a few. All things come to an end however and while I think CMW can go on for a while yet. It would be nice to see it finished but not rushed do it right take and fix the glitches in the game not to say you don't but I wouldn't release a rushed game with glitches. It would definitely look bad on your end and the gamers would bad mouth it that is something no developer needs unless they are terrible. I think if I were the developer I'd probably consider the Hybrid approach to the game. Updates come out what every two months? That also takes probably an enormous amount of time and energy etc... . Maybe the hybrid solution is workable and will be fine. However if it's not and the developers after a while decided that the CMW should have been different somehow what is to say they can't do a sequel or something to it? Pick up wherever they leave off? Again it's a hard choice to make and there is no solution that will make everyone happy that's simply impossible. There my two cents has turned into a quarter but maybe that's inflation.

Imho, do what the team wants/needs to do. If project fatigue is setting in, forcing you guys to stay on it is just creating worse content in the end.

I think slowing down and getting it right the first time will always be better then trying to rush it out the door, Personally this whole steam thing might be a blessing for you, it gives you a chance to slow down and not be chained to a release window

Agree with those mentioning slowing down to prevent burnout. I vote for continuing work on CMW, but do continue on other creative projects at the teams pace. I really enjoyed Paprika, and enjoyed knowing there was small updates afterwards, even if they were cosmetics.

one option would be to do what some of my relatives call "come to a decent stopping point" which could serve as the end of a chapter - and if more of the camp is written afterwards, thats great; and if nothing else is written, thats okay (though we'll be sad)

I say do a hybrid approach. MITY does the same thing and it seams to work great for them.

Tough call. Either risk burnout or risk your first impression to potentially new fans. Releasing a finish product always sounds like the best move, buyers get to see the full vision of the team and could attract a bigger following since any "what if?" questions would be aimed to future projects. Avoiding burnout feels better. So you already have us here on Patreon and regardless of your choice, I'm sticking around. CMW has been a really fun game. You already have some people following your team to the next project. If you guys sit through and burn away to complete release, it could reflect in CMW and slow down progress/quality towards your next project. New buyers may pick up on that and could sour how they feel about the game. Hell, I could be entirely wrong and everything will be fine regardless of your choice. All I know is I got some bananas in my bookbag from work last night and I'm gonna make banana pancakes in a bit. Whatever your teams chooses, I look forward to your work. And my pancakes.

Phew. that's a relief. I already feared one of my favorite games would be abandoned from Steam. Recently I also bought the complete collection of "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at a discount from Steam. These open world games all take place in the , in this adventure/exploration/shooter game not quite abandoned , radioactive infested zone around the Ukrainian cities Tsjernobyl and Pripjat, after the nuclear reactor melted down in 1986. Many of the realistic landscapes in these games were actually built with the help of photo's made by drones. The real zone can even today be visited on guided tours, however it's no longer allowed to access any of the abandoned, empty, deteriorated buildings because the risk of them collapsing unexpectedly has become far to great after about 40 years of being unattended.

I mean no need to work at a pace on wich your team would get burned out slow and steady wins the race too and a finished polished game is always a better impression Plus this game is one of the goats XD

Keep the game polished before you release. Otherwise it myt leave a bad impression on new gamers

This is actually one of my favorite games, so it would be fun to see all the places it would go but I look forward to seeing what else you come up with.

Steam does no longer allow early access of adult games? But "Tropical Monster Girls " from developer "Sweet Cakes " [ also on Discord and Patreon ] absolutely is an adult game still in Early Access-mode that has been updated recently. Does their new rule imply this game, for wich I have paid, will be removed from Steam by them, or instead be given an abandoned state before it eventually will be finished? That would really be a bummer! And I wouldn't like it if the same, awful fate would hit CMW.

It only applies for new games wanting to enter into EA as far as I can tell. With multiple developers receiving the message to "Please fully finish the game before uploading to Steam."

Good with whatever you decide - just keep working at the pace you can sustain and not burn out.

Honestly just as long as the game isnt rushed and potential isnt missed ill be happy with either other choice you guys make i wish you guys the best of luck with steam :3
